Religion is Oil

Perhaps we needed it, perhaps we could have managed without it, but since the discovery of oil our economy has relied on it. Our society has been (literally) fuel by oil. It has done wonders for our world and the impact of oil cannot be disputed. As great of a use as oil has been in our short history, it has now become detrimental to use it. These days it is destroying our world. Sure, we once relied on this fossil fuel, but now it's time to start using an alternative energy…

Incredible Sentencing Speech by Advocate For Peaceful Uprising

This is pretty inspiring. I would highly recommend taking the time to read it.

Thank you for the opportunity to speak before the court.  When I first met Mr. Manross, the sentencing officer who prepared the presentence report, he explained that it was essentially his job to “get to know me.”  He said he had to get to know who I really was…

It's about more than just getting high....

...but there is that, too.

Cannabis is a beautifully diverse crop that could improve America in many spheres.
From textiles to medicine; I'll stop short of saying that it could even lessen our dependence on foreign oil.
California is a hair away from legalizing it for adults. When Prop 19 passes (which it will) it will take an officer with the jurisdiction of a federal marshal or above to cite an individual for anything more than a legal INFRACTION. That's…

Flock Joins the Gulf Oil Relief Efforts

You've heard me rant about how clearly useless prayer is. This week CNN had an article about an Alabama church that used to hold summer services on the beach but was displaced by cleanup efforts.

This is interesting on several levels.

Clean-up efforts forced the congregation from the sandy beach up to a concrete pavilion, "partly due to the relief workers basically taking away our beach. We’re glad they are, but that is the situation," said the Rev. Lance Moore,…

With age comes wisdom?

Hardly...

After a long morning of yard and house work, I decided to treat myself to lunch. Adjacent from the booth I was sitting in was a group of four elderly people. Every now and again I would catch bits an pieces of their conversation; diet, keeping active, etc. Normal innocent conversation.

As I finished my meal, and was on my way out, I heard one of the women utter these 'pearls of wisdom'. The topic of conversation had turned to the oil spill in the gulf. One of the men… Continue

A World Without Oil?

This is truly a fascinating topic. While not directly related to atheism, i thought it was appropriate to bring it up in a forum of free thinkers...

There's a fascinating lecture by Albert Bartlett, a Colorado University Physics Professor, where he speaks of the coming oil crisis and makes it clear exactly how ill-equipped we are in dealing with it.

The Lecture

As to date, there are NO… Continue
