Youthful Skepticism

A very early memory of mine was the United States' Bicentennial, 1976. I remember feeling so good about this country. A few years later, another prominent memory was created - the Iranian Hostage Crisis.

I will not make a case for the US' installation of the Shah as being just. I will not make a case against Iranians wanting to pursue their own destiny with less Western influence. I will however ask you to consider and also consciously identify the concern that religious…

New Year, Still Atheist

I haven't been here in a while...  I was chastised for posting in the incorrect spot, and I felt rebellious against the rules and ran away for a bit.  I can be a child (and I don't care).  Plus, I was very busy graduating from nursing school, starting my job as a RN and also starting my nursing bachelor's program.  I also have heathens to raise and a husband to be a wife to.

I love being a nurse.  I love my job, I love my coworkers, I love my paycheck.  I'm a pretty happy camper…

Hello..?

I'm.. Not good with introductions, but.. Here it is anyway, I'm Steven and I'm 18.. I've been an Atheist or at least doubtful of the existence of a god/gods since I was 14-15 years old, maybe even younger.. I've always loved science, and get a tingle inside when I look at the universe around us (and within us). I may be a slight hippy.. And "peace" is something I actually believe in, perhaps I'm being naive though. I should stop before this turns into a rambling…

Do Moderate Christians Need an "Adam"?

Jesus and Adam  Previously, I discussed the idea that we can now definitively show that there was no single couple from which all of humanity descended, and discussed a few points made by ProfMTH, namely that Paul references Adam in same way he references Jesus. To me, this seemed a clear and inescapable contradiction to a foundational principle of Christianity, since Paul is obviously wrong in referencing Adam. Now this assertion faced…

I hate that you've given up.

So this is my first blog post on TA! Hurray! I'm relatively new to the site but I'm already in love with it. You people make me think and I'm grateful to you.

The story:

I ran into an old neighbor today who I had not spoken to in a very long time. She belongs to an infamous church in my community which holds a fall festival to give children a place to go on halloween. They think it celebrates satan. Anyway, during this conversation, my neighbor informs me…

Faith and Reason: One Way or the Highway?

I thought this might be a good place for my last blog entry from http://www.commonground.net. So, here are some of my thoughts on faith and reason.

Another Common Ground blogger, Ian Kluge, directed our attention to the new atheists position that there is an inherent and irreconcilable conflict between faith and reason.

Christopher Hitchens sums up their position this way: “All attempts to reconcile faith…

A New York City Fantasy

This poem was originally posted on my Fiction blog, Pumping Keys.

For added effect, play the music video at the bottom and have a listen to this song while you read... it was written playing this song and it goes very well with the mood of the poem. The video is pretty cool too.

I wish I lived in a big house on top of an abandoned…

Scary YouTube Messages

So first off, apparently a group of Internet Christians have been trying to get people on YouTube to... well what they're trying to do is actually my first question. I don't know what their intent is. Some of my vidder friends (we all are the vidding community because we all make fanvideos - music videos using clips from our favorite movies and TV shows) said they had received similar messages in the past. I talk to many of these vidder friends of mine on twitter, so to share my extreme… Continue

Twilight: New Moon - Yeah, like, whatever

Twilight: New Moon is a 14 year old girl’s dream movie. It reminded me of the romances I had as a teenager – a wreck.

Something happened before Twilight: New Moon began, what that was, the audience doesn’t know. It’s obvious there is a romance between Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and they really love each other. Oh yeah, and Edward is a vampire but we never actually see him chew on anyone so we know that because…they told us so. All of the… Continue

I received the following email yesterday:

Hello world!

Well hello hello hello...

I was, at first, hesitant to do a blog post here, as I already run a separate blog (1azylizzie.wordpress.com) which I have enough trouble maintaining as it is.. However, my 'home page' i guess looked a little sad with no blog posts added, so I decided I might as well add an entry....

I don't usually spend too much time on social networking sites, but I thought that I would give this one a go, because unlike Facebook, here I can remain as anonymous… Continue
