If You're the Smartest Person In The Room... You're In The Wrong Room.
I wanted to contribute my current day-to-day experience which shares much in common with those posting and agreeing that "They Can't Live On This Planet Anymore!" and to offer what helps me through it every day.
When I'm not developing lectures and multimedia pieces for Innerspace Labs, (please see my profile for fun bits about that!), I pay the rent working as a supervisor in a print center.
It is, indeed a struggle, as my workplace is made up of proudly fundamentalist…

Atheism and music
I was chatting to a guy yesterday and religion came up in conversation. The usual "so what religion are you?" question was asked by him and I said I was not religious. He was not sure what I meant by 'not religious' so I told him that I was an atheist and did not believe that there was a god and that all religions are made by man.
This is when it got interesting, he said - "Oh, so you listen to heavy metal and stuff..."??? HUH??
For the first time (or one of the very…

Christians are up in arms about music video showing church burnings, but they don't understand its meaning
A music video posted on the homepage of the Rock Beyond Belief Festival, that's being held for atheist servicemen and women in March at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, has roused the ire of several Christian blogs and commentators.
Filmed for the song "Hysteria" by rock band Aiden, the video (posted below), begins with several shots of church and synagogue burnings. Indeed, the song itself uses what appears to be lyrics…

I go in alone.
I'm registering to audit classes at the local university to prepare to apply for graduate school. No big deal, right?
Maybe not. It's a very religious private school. They require their students to not engage in drinking, smoking, "promiscuous" clothing, or even living with a boyfriend/girlfriend. All unwed students who don't live in the immediate area MUST live on campus. My club volleyball coach went there while I was in high school, and she was afraid to use Solo cups at her own…

Beauty and Meaning. No gods required.
I brewed a pot of jasmine tea to begin with. I spooned it three teaspoonfuls of leaf into the pot of hot water, making sure it didn’t boil to avoid unnecessary bitterness. After a minute and a half of steeping I removed the leaves and went outside.
I had been looking forward to this all day. So I was rather nervous that the album I had planned to experience wouldn’t live up to my hopes. The sky above was overcast, the wind slight and cool. It was not cold enough to be…

Damien Dempsey - Colony
Irish musician penned this brilliant song and summed up a part of history nicely.Enjoy the thick Dublin accent. :)
I sing the song of the colony
How many years and you’re still not free
And your mother cries and you ask god why
Greed is the knife and the scars run deep
How many races…

I’m putting together a playlist for my rapture party on Saturday. If you haven’t heard, Jesus is coming back on Saturday and you’re fucked. We’re gonna party like there’s no tomorrow. See http://wecanknow.com/ to find out how much trouble you’re in. Anyhow, I’m open to suggestions for the playlist, but I’m trying to stay away from metal, too many obscure tunes, and too many downers. I need some armageddon-themed tune…

Strange albums for Anne
This is a list of albums, music scores and so on
Also I will point out one song from the album, but in some cases this song will be much different then the rest of the album so beware. The reason for this is that some of this albums are rather complex, so every song is different.
Also, most of this sounds horrible at first hearing, but after like ten times it finally sinks under the skin.
p.s. The reason why it took me so long to write this list is because, if I start to…

Atheist Inspired Music
Atheism (especially in America) is often labeled as angry. It seems to be hinted that beauty and poetry stem from other (perhaps more "spiritual") ways of living.
I can appreciate the culture expressed through the ages that can be attributed to the passion of people inspired by their belief in things beyond themselves and their lives, as Dawkins says "Cultural Christianity".
However, in writing music I have found atheism a very rich source to draw upon for…
