Prayer Fails AGAIN

[Okay, I'm gonna try this again. The first time I did this post, everything disappeared except for the first paragraph.]

A couple days ago, a 7-year-old girl in Illinois went missing. Of course, a Facebook friend (a Christian) posted a plea for prayers for the missing girl.  The next day, a body was found, and it turned out to be the murdered little girl.  Her uncle is being held in custody, presumably as a suspect in her murder.  So the Christian Facebook friend…

Killing for Fun

I just read an article this morning online about a group teens in Oklahoma who randomly shot and killed an Australian collage student and claim they did it "for the fun of it". All I can think of is, what is wrong with these kids?

"...Charged with first-degree murder are Chancey Allen Luna, 16, and…

Pleasant Valley Chaos Theory

273cu V8, four on the floor Hurst shifter. And a back window that can cook a pizza. My first car was a white 1964 Barracuda. I was pretty proud of it. I suppose having my own car at age 16 helped me develop a proper sense of responsibility and independence. Those things are important. But that's not where this story is going.

One night I was on a camp-out fishing trip with some friends. The…

Bible Review: Exodus 1-7

So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the LORD commanded.  Aaron cast down his staff before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent.  Then Pharaoh summoned the wise men and the sorcerers, and they, the magicians of Egypt, also did the same by their secret arts. – Exodus 7:10-11

Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded.  In the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants he lifted up the staff and struck the water in the Nile, and all the water…

Christians Under Attack - For Real

According to this news article, Christians are under attack just because they are Christian. Hrm... funny thing - again, it is NOT Atheists who are attacking them. Instead the Christians are being attacked by Mohammedans.

Christians like to say that they are being attacked, even when they aren't, such as when Atheists bring up the fact that there is zero proof…

Not again...Father guns down 6-daughters in Islamic "honor killing"

While the tragedy in Norway happened by a lone wolf - let's not forget the true horrors of Islam. Please tell me people - when does something like this happen among Christians? Let's not be politically correct in realizing the real threats facing humanity as a whole is not "Christian" or "right-wing" terror but Islamic terror...

Evidence For God: Human Casualties Due to Religion and Atheism

I just used StumbleUpon and found this page: http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/atrocities.html.

The first chart was interesting, showing how many people have been killed for other reasons than religion. Most of those were due to land and power struggles, invasions, and corrupt or inept governments. However, every one of those countries or groups had religion of some sort (even the Mongols, who were…

A simple problem with biblical innerancy

Oxford philosopher Peter Millican, in this free series on philosophy (you should download it and listen to it – it’s free!), raises a very simple challenge to biblical innerancy. I’ve adapted it slightly below:

1. Commanding genocide is not morally praiseworthy.

2. Every act of God is morally praiseworthy.

3. God commands genocide in the Bible.

4. Therefore, not everything in…

A True Free Thinker?

Me and my wife had a very interesting talk yesterday. She mentioned something I thought would be good post to the free thinking people of T/A. (I put it in blog form to keep better track of it)

How can there be a true (100%) free thinker?

She mention that it would not be possible to be one because every one has a bias.

For example murder- we will make an assessment of the act without knowing what is actually…

The Reality of Christian Terrorism

For years now whenever I am in a debate with Christians and the topic reaches over into my anti-theistic view I constantly get answers along the lines of, "The Gospel teaches salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. There is no meriting salvation or earning righteousness. Everything in a Christian's life is gifted and there is no rational way to feel superior to others with a Christian belief." and "I don't see that really happening in the Christian world, but why should it… Continue

The Death Penalty: A Case for Abolition

The death penalty is a brutal hangover from primitive legal systems and has no place in modern society. The United States stands alone among the world’s democracies in its use of capital punishment. This form of punishment has no place in a nation founded upon reason, justice, and liberty. Reason dictates that the death penalty can only further incite violence in this culture as legal authority condones retributive killing. Justice sees nothing valuable in a punishment… Continue

"Virgin Girls in America"

I had just come on break when our translator asked me,

"Are their any virgin girls in America?"

At the time I was serving as a gate guard on FOB Diamondback in Mosul Iraq and was about halfway through my deployment. The question took me aback. What, did he think that American girls are somehow not born virgins? Or that doctors de-virgify them when they're born, kinda like the way boys get circumcised?…

Is abortion murder?

Before answering this question, it is imperative to truly define murder. To me, “murder” is an intentional, malicious act which serves to terminate the biological functioning of an innocent individual. Of course, this definition then begs the question of what exactly constitutes an individual. Surely plants are not considered individuals, yet a coma patient is. I think that the easiest way to define an “individual person” is both the possession of an advanced central nervous system… Continue

Modern Islam and the Quran: Living like Muhammad

The following is from a discussion, elsewhere, about Islam. Johnny, is confusing Muslims with Islam and is concerned about hatred in the world. My response clarifies my position about as well as I've ever clarified it, so I'm posting the exchange here in my blog.

@ Atheist Exile

First, there is a rational justification for not hating anyone. One day I think we can eliminate hate if we don't blow up the earth first.

Second, I… Continue

Woman Starves Son to Death

I'm a bundle of joy with my blogs, I know. I resolve to post something more fun this week.

A mother was a part of a group that insisted that you say Amen after a prayer and before a meal. The boy refused so the "Queen" (apparently we are back to that) stood up and accused him of being demon possessed. The punishment was starvation. The boy was so convinced that this was BS that he was starved to death.

The "respect" for faith crowd is patronizing both us and the mother… Continue

God = Hypocrite?

I've been working on a speech for a public speaking competition at my school and while doing research, I came across a blog that was talking about how God's a murderer. [Link posted at the bottom of blog]

I'd already known this, but based on the estimated total, I was in shock.

Being a former Christian [Evangelical, Protestant], I'd been taught to abide by the 10 Commandments.

One being "Thou Shall Not Kill."

It makes no sense to me how God would tell us to not… Continue
