The Contribution Of Religion To The Ubiquitous Desensitization To Harming

The Ubiquitous Desensitization To Harming

The biological asymmetry of the survival of the human species depending on pregnancies and births being severe harm only to women, while men are spared, is no rational justification for accepting harming as natural.
In entry 552 I attributed…

just a question

so at a recent party,  I was listening in on a conversation that my Christian friend and some of his christian friends were talking about how people can believe that there is not god? I as a in-the-closet-atheist. didn't say anything but his friend said "Where does moral thought come from?" and i was pondering that idea that our thought can bring moral actions and moral judgement. If there is a god than he would give Humanity moral thought? i dont know this question is hard for me to come up…

A Question About Lying

The question is frequently posed to me, and though I am often vague with my answers, I usually air on the side of cautious honesty.  Is it ever ok to lie?

In this society, or rather our social construct, where almost all is left up to the individual’s interpretation, the line between virtue and vice seems less perceptible than ever before. At least in my experience, of something I have noted repeatedly and in my observation of people’s communication regarding the issue, I have come to…

On Religious Faith

Of course, science is not the enemy of religious faith. Sanity is. (ichbindaswortistich)

Over the ages, all religious pretensions, regardless of the respective faith of which they may have originated, have been disproved beyond any reasonable doubt. The earth is not flat but a sphere. The earth revolves about the sun, not vice versa. The earth is not the centre of the universe but a tiny planet in only one of myriads…

Another scientific study indicating our moral codes evolved with us

Sometimes one needs to account for a negative in order to reinforce a positive. The positive, in this case, regards where we get our moral values and "civilised society" ideals from.

The article shows that in certain species of apes, severe violence within certain ape communities can be found to be largely political and ingrained within the culture of a group. This to me, provides yet another good argument for the question that so many creationists love to ask non-believers; That… Continue

What Your "Personal Philosophy"?

While I am an atheist, Atheism only Describes what I am not. And thats a Theist, But recently I have been in search of a Philosophy. I'v been looking at independent Satanism, LeVay  that is, And naturalistic Pantheism and paganism among others. But I would love to here from someone belonging to some of the groups, For inspiration and education if anything. Leave me comment Describing what you "Are"

Why the Will is Not Free

Human beings have a powerful sense of free will, and in at least one important sense, they are responsible for their actions. Despite this, however, the concept of free will as it is commonly understood is baseless and incoherent. It is certainly true, of course, that when beings make choices, it feels to them as though a variety of outcomes are possible. In fact, however, only the actual outcome was ever really a possibility. For a different choice to have been… Continue

Can there really be moral absolutes?

In my last (and first) blog post, I brought up the problem that atheists usually have with religious people (that of, "atheists have no morals"). Emma Coomber brought something up that I agree with and have been thinking for a while now.

There are no absolute morals.

I think I can safely assume that most (if not all) of us here would agree that morals are created by society and nothing else. So really, is it such a leap to assume that there are no absolute… Continue

An atheist XMas greeting.

This is an atheist XMas greeting. Sorry it's in Spanish and kinda hard to translate. It can be found here:

Estimados Todos,

Continue
