Evolution and homosexuality

A friend of mine asked me a while ago what I thought about homosexuality in light of evolution. I thought about it for a while and googled it a bit, but I'm not sure I've found a satisfactory answer.

I currently believe that humans (and every other animal on the planet) are basically bags of animated DNA whose ultimate goal is to survive long enough to procreate in order to continue the particular DNA that each is created from. This is largely unconscious, but we all fight for…

LGBT in India Under Attack

Its been a while since I've posted anything in my blog on Think Atheist. But I just received this terrible news from All Out by email on my iPhone. I simply had to post something to get this off my chest.

I have to say I am very surprised by this. I thought India was coming to a revolutionary point of moving forward for human equality. But I…

Pat Condell's latest (109th) video and transcript: Hello Saudi Arabia

Hello Saudi Arabia

by Pat Condell, May 2, 2012 (#109)

Transcribed by AtheistExile.com

I’ve had a few emails, recently, from people in Saudi Arabia who seem genuinely puzzled about why I criticize their country. A country,…

Homosexuality is an unnatural choice

Homosexuality is an unnatural choice.

It's an argument we've probably all heard before, that homosexuals are unnatural. This is completely false. In this blog I'll talk about what is and is not natural and why homosexuality is not a choice.

Everything we do is within nature. Humans have this idea that because we live in cities we are somehow above nature. This is false. We are just one species out of over a million others living on this blue marble we call Earth. Literally…

The Pope, Evangelicals and the War Against Free Thought

I was scanning the inter-webs and came across this article in The Washington Post's Faith section (Yes, I read the faith section quite often): Pope Seeks Protestant Allies to Combat…

Homosexuality is a bad thing

Apparently produced originally by the Gator Gay-Straight Alliance of the University of Florida

  1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.
  2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can’t legally get married because the world needs more children.
  3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
  4. Straight…

Stephen Fry on why the Catholic church is not a force for good, 2009

This is from 2009, so many have probably seen it. A pretty good speech by actor Stephen Fry (who will appear in the next Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes movie) against the current state of the Catholic religion/nation.  Soon I will see Stephen Fry accept an award in Harvard Square.…

The Reality of Christian Terrorism

For years now whenever I am in a debate with Christians and the topic reaches over into my anti-theistic view I constantly get answers along the lines of, "The Gospel teaches salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. There is no meriting salvation or earning righteousness. Everything in a Christian's life is gifted and there is no rational way to feel superior to others with a Christian belief." and "I don't see that really happening in the Christian world, but why should it… Continue

Hi, I'm a cherry-picker.

Warning: the following is a giant rant about Christians in a community college philosophy class in central Texas. If you are not in the mood to be mired in a massive pile of negativity, you may want to click your browser's back button.

I just got back from Ethics class, where the question of the day was, "Should same-sex marriage be allowed?" I wrote… Continue

Homophobia

I really cannot understand it. Every day here in Texangelical Hell, I am surrounded by a constant and persistent undercurrent of homophobia. Often the gay-bashing is quite blatant as derogatory slurs and obscene references are casually tossed into conversation; these comments are usually fueled by a touted “disgust” for homosexual practices. This is irritating, but largely dismissive as I find that it only brands the speaker as childish and incapable of rational adult… Continue

Teacher Suspended - Homosexuality In Animals Assignment

Finally, the verdict comes out after about 8 hours of waiting.

Dan DeLong, the teacher that was suspended for assigning an optional article dealing with homosexuality in the animal kingdom, has his job back. The entire meeting that decided this was held behind closed doors while a reported 200 people stood outside in support of him.

I read the article that he assigned as optional material and there were some mildly graphic descriptions (if you call mentioning an ejaculation… Continue

Playing pick and choose with the commandments

Here’s a thought.

Maybe it’s due to my lack of knowledge in Christianity so help me out

There are 613 commandments in the bible- not just the ten central ones.

However, Christians believe that 603 of the commandments (minus the ten) are irrelevant since “Jesus died to save us from our sins.”

So Christians don’t keep kosher for example- a clear commandment in the bible

They don’t… Continue

Why is homosexuality considered immoral?

You’ve heard it before, didn’t you? Homosexuality is considered immoral, awful and the biggest sin ever. All gay people are instantaneously condemned to hell. News of violence towards gays is seen every day and homophobia is almost a job description for some people. California prohibited future same-sex marriages and only nine countries on this planet allow them at all. And if that is not enough, we often hear that homosexuality is a disease…

I support gay people. Why would they be… Continue
