Deconverting, well not really

Up until recently I had been a believer, but never a true christian. I got baptized at about 12 years old but never read the bible, I just believed in god and didn’t want to hell. Obligatory

The question of how I identify myself has come up so often that I have bothered to sit down, overcome some mental obstacles, and hash out an answer.

I am person largely unable to attach labels to my Self.

Before anyone scoffs, it's not some hipster refusal to be pigeon-holed. I have a mental illness. One of the difficulties I work through is "pervasive, marked instability of identity."

I've only disagreed with Hitchens five times. This was not one of them.

Dawkins, Harris, Hitchens may be rude, but they have been effective

The vehemence, perhaps even violence, with which Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens attack religious belief makes many people uncomfortable. Yes, they are rude, and a lot of atheists give them crap about it, but not me.

Sure, they all claim to have heard from people who have heard their rants and converted on the spot to atheism, but for the most part I think they preach to the choir, anger the faithful and amuse everyone else. However ineffective I think they are… Continue
