Telescopium - the telescope

Brad's Jeep and Meade Nick Lacaille named a constellation Telescopium in order to honor a specific telescope, the one at the Paris Observatory. But then the heavenly borders got all rearranged and they had to cut off the top of the scope as Nick had drawn it. So as a result they had to use…

Ursa Major - the great bear

biggerbear The Greater Bear, Ursa Major, is probably the most significant constellation in the northern sky because it contains the Big Dipper.

The Big Dipper is a thing with a thousand names. It's the most obvious and easiest to recognize of all…

Virgo

testtubebabies Springtime is about Virgo and has been for a very long time. Thousands of years ago this constellation was known to many as The Seed Furrow but it eventually evolved into a lovely young fertile maiden, as in "spring brings all the boys to the furrow" (wink wink). Not that…

Think Inc Conference Special

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the Think Inc conference in Melbourne Australia, the inaugural event, and one that showed much promise with a line-up of speakers which included Professor Tim Flannery, YouTube sensation Christina Rad, activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali (appearing via Skype), poet Shane Koyczan, Professor Neil Degrasse Tyseon, Professor Michael Shermer and political commentator Christopher Hitchens (also intended to appear via Skype).

Atheism is a natural outcome

In my recent interview with PZ Myers, when asked "Is atheism even something you think about, or is it merely part of having an informed knowledge of the universe and its workings?" he stated:

"Atheism is a natural conclusion of rational and scientific thinking."

Bingo! He hit the nail on the head, and… Continue

Where's Atheist Climber blog gone?

I realise this may be bending the rules somewhat, but I'm just writing this blog to let you know of some exciting thing happening over in my own little world, at Martin S Pribble. I decided it was time to come out of hiding under the monicker of Atheist Climber and go by my real name, for a couple of reasons. One, I am not afraid or ashamed of my atheism, nor am I afraid of what others might think of me or do to me because of my convictions. Two, It is my name, and if I want to be taken… Continue

"Alone in the Universe" from Atheist Climber blog

from Atheist Climber Blog

We live in an imperfect universe, one where the objects that inhabit it are constantly under the strain of outside forces. And while, as was pointed out in the comments from my previous blog, there are moments where systems may work together cooperatively, these… Continue

"An Atheist and his Natural Universe" from Atheist Climber blog

from Atheist Climber blog

I have, in the past tried to put forward my thoughts on the idea that all things that happen in a universe are natural. There is no such thing as an unnatural act, because when you look at THIS world on a universal scale, it is little more than a small speck of dust… Continue

"At the edge of knowledge" from Atheist Climber Blog

We know nothing.

The collective knowledge of all the people on earth that have ever lived is but a drop in the ocean of all possible knowledge in the universe. (1) And the amount of knowledge any one person has is… Continue
