I so want to send this letter to a childhood friend of mine, but I probably won't. I want to stop taking her calls, but I've known her since I was 11. I'm still friends with her sister (we were like the Three Amigas at one point), but... I dunno. I'm just so over the facade. And I'm so over feeling so... invalidated. This girl has been through so much, and I tried to be there for her... but it has been ALL about her for so long, and not me at all. It's a toxic relationship,… Continue

Day in and day out life seems to be becoming mundane with no intellectual stimulation unless you actually go LOOKING for it.
I had a nice surprise the other day when I discovered a new friend of mine was capable of having a philosophical debate. Yes! I am not alone! I can finally have someone in my life who doesn't want to talk small talk! I hate small talk. It's repetitive and mind numbingly useless. So I get all excited and think that I can FINALLY discuss all the things I've been… Continue

Hello to all TA inhibitors. Hope everyone is having a great 2012 so far.
Late last month I posted a blog about me thinking about leaving a church group I was attending for almost a year. Well, I've left. I haven't ditched anyone's friendship since I still enjoy their company very much. I've told a few people whom I were close to in the church group about my departure. Some of the things they've said to me are things I'm very curious in learning about. One of my friends stated the… Continue

Everywhere I turn, everywhere I go people are talking about god. Even my family is plagued by this nonsense. I use to live in California, and I've never had a problem wiht people praying before meals for the occasional "Bless you" because...It was occasional! Ever since I moved to Minnesota I hear and see it everywhere. My sister in-law, who I thought for a long time was a very nice woman now quotes verses on Facebook, and snidely states "I didn't come from a monkey". Which at first made me… Continue

Right, so... someone posted about their buddies being 'deeply hurt' about all the antitheist posts he was making on Facebook. Like Catholic Priests aren't FB fodder enough? :)
So hey man..I can't find your thread cus I'm reaaaaaaaalllly drunk right now, but I wanted to share this with you:
I've been 'out of the closet' to all of my friends and most of my relatives for like three years now. For the most part, the dust has settled and we are all begrudgingly on speaking terms… Continue

Looking to meet freethinkers in Oregon. I'm in Bend, but go to Portland lots. Here is my art blog, advertising my upcoming art show at the Northwest popular teahouse some of you may be familiar with... Townshends Tea House.
If you live in the Northwest, post a comment introducing yourself! I'm a 29 year old atheist chick who writes, plays drums, guitar, does hiking and other outdoor rec stuff, loves science and… Continue

It's sort of an interesting predicament I find myself in. On the one hand my coworker (we'll call her Jane, for the purposes of anonymity) is a perfectly lovely girl, and I rather enjoy her company. On the other, some of the things that come out of her mouth well and truly offend me.
The problem with being secular is that every time I find myself offended by a non secular comment, society makes me feel as though I don't have a right to be offended. But when someone literally says "I… Continue

I'd like to immediately get some demographics out of the way so you may have a better grasp of my situation. I'm 29 years old. I am a computer technician at a small company. I am happily married with two kids, ages seven and nine. I have always lived in Alabama. My hometown is located in south central Alabama, deep in the bible belt. Now that that is out of the way...
I want to thank the atheist community and the creators of this site for give people a place to… Continue

Forgive my writing style. I don't plan my blogs, and I've only ever written two.
The most recent trend in my religious rants seems to be the comfort of it. The idea that you're "never alone" and you don't actually die. Preposterous. Juvenile. Fucking scary that educated adults buy into this crap to avoid nightmares and homesickness.
Starting with the most parroted piece of bullshit in Christianity: You Are Never Alone.
(Note irony in capitalization)
Of course you are… Continue

Morgan Matthew generously sent me a Learn to Think Atheist bracelet a while back and I have not worn it until recently. I am getting married August 8th and decided I would wear it during the ceremony. As a precursor, I wore it to the rehearsal dinner where my evangelical mother saw it. She kept asking what it was so I let her take a hold of it to read it. Once she comprehended the words she recoiled as if it were a venomous serpent, wiping her hands on her pants. As she got drunk, she spent a… Continue

I was having a conversation with a good friend about how a facebook friend insinuated my current unmoving flu was down to the fact I no longer have god on my side. I had forgotten the friend I was chatting to had himself dabbled in various community churches of the christian variety and he suddenly said,
'I don't mind you saying you’re an 'atheist''
To which I replied,
'I don't mind you saying you’re a 'christian''
Why to people think that we should… Continue

I'm new to the community. Running on little sleep, lots of post-holiday annoyances, and a handful of sodas that should have been diet and caffeine free. Regardless, I stumbled here... took in some great reads and made a handful of replies. I've got a bit of a formal dash to my writing as I'm polishing off the last year of a liberal arts degree. <-- I'm boring, but my story is interesting.
Having come back to my hometown from about 90 miles away, I was glad to see my friends. Of… Continue

Due to a minor infraction at MySpace.com (ie. being an atheist and speaking out,) my account was deleted. I opened another account, just to keep in touch with old friends, and marked it 'private'.
So far only a few have accepted my friend request.
While this could be a coincidence, I can't help feeling that some of them just couldn't reconcile my beliefs .. or, non-beliefs. I was never critical of them directly, but I made quite a few anti-evangelical postings (usually… Continue
