The Contribution Of Religion To The Ubiquitous Desensitization To Harming

The Ubiquitous Desensitization To Harming

The biological asymmetry of the survival of the human species depending on pregnancies and births being severe harm only to women, while men are spared, is no rational justification for accepting harming as natural.
In entry 552 I attributed…

Harm And The Evolution Of The Gullibility For Religion

Harm And The Evolution Of The Gullibility For Religion

In entry 547 I compared two videos revealing the atrocities suffered by the children in Kinsey's research.    While one was as seemingly unbiased documentary, the other was biased by the christian religion.

This brought me back to the old question, why…

Apology Of A Poseur

(The following was inspired by Deepak Chopra's quackery-laden and hypocritically self-serving review of Richard Dawkins' book, The Magic of Reality. Enjoy).

I find…

Jesus Vines!

Here is an article talking about some vines that grew on an utility pole.  Apparently it looks like Jesus!

Wait, I think I see...nope, never mind.  Damn.

The Book of Solicitation

So, I'm watching The 19th Wife on LMN--a movie with murder and Mormons--when the doorbell rings and a couple of young Jehovah's Witness bible thumpers want to read me some scripture and give me a booklet. This isn't the first time this group has visited my house, but it was the first time I was home alone and the one to answer the door. As soon as I knew what was about to happen I regretted my decision to answer the door immediately. They were very young--I'm 22 and they were noticeably…

Time to say Goodbye to American Puritan Superstition

(And all my gratitude to Think Atheist - HAPPY 2011, Guys!)

It has been a really bad experience of drug-like intoxication with American religious fantasies which transmitted to other areas of knowledge transformed my life in an erratic and painful trip through the darkness of other people's hallucinations. But I have this one marvelous good which preserves me: I am not ashamed to learn history and I am very grateful to the ones who created web-sites like…

It is my contention that religious belief is delusion. Most religious people will adamantly maintain their belief regardless of what information or logic is presented to counter that belief. Now, most atheists, would probably change their position if someone were to present a cogent unassailable logical contradiction, or, better yet, actual proof or verifiable information that showed that there actually is proof of the supernatural. (However, perceived images of the virgin Mary, etc., in grease… Continue

I always read that agnosticism is philosophically the most logical position since one can never be sure that God does not exist. My question is: how impossible does something have to be before you can be sure it doesn't exist? Take the Flying Spaghetti Monster; does anyone seriously doubt for a second that such a being doesn't really exist? Isn't that the point of FSM? There are infinitely many things that I cannot prove do not exist, but at some point the improbability of something is… Continue

I Don’t Care What Your Delusion Is, I’m Not Obligated To Share It (A Reposting)

I saw this recently on another board and thought it deserved a wider airing:

I Don’t Care What Your Delusion Is, I’m Not Obligated To Share It

The earth revolves around the sun.

The earth is billions, not thousands of years old.

Fox News is neither fair, nor balanced - nor news.

Evolution happened and is happening.

Torture does not work.

Bush did not keep us safe.

Markets do not regulate themselves.

Fascism is not the same as… Continue

Religion and your mental health.

Picture youself in bed, waiting to fall asleep, when suddenly you start seeing millions of stars falling right in front of you. You see a radiant light, one brighter than the rest, mingling with beautiful colours. You feel ecstatic. Everything appears to be shimmering and boiling and then, as suddenly as it came, it dissipates. Throughout all of this, you are fully awake. How would you react?

How about if you were sitting in a room with a group of people and the whole room became… Continue

Proof there is no god...

I purchased "The god delusion" maybe 2 years ago and read it and fell in love with it. Its funny, and I enjoy Dawkins writing style.

But My favourite part of the book is where he quotes Gaskings reconstructed "proof of goods non existence" by W. Grey:

1.The creation of the world is the most marvelous achievement imaginable.

2.The merit of an achievement is the product of (a) its intrinsic quality, and (b) the ability of its creator.

3.The greater the disability,… Continue
