You Do the Math

With the rise of Evangelical Christianity in the United States a corresponding increase in finger pointing and blame claiming that the country is in moral decline accompanied it. The usual culprits for the fingered for the alleged deterioration are liberals, non-Christians and unbelievers, but a look at the numbers show the source may be a closer to…

Atheist Apologists and Liberal Christians.

Liberal Christians, in my honest opinion, are just goosestepping agnosticism and ultimately, their true atheistic feelings and skepticism. A liberal Christian is like an atheist apologist. Too afraid to have unpopular opinions and too weak to stand up for them.

Recently a friend and I were discussing an episode of "The Cleveland Show", where a character is asked whether or not he is an atheist. The animated thirteen year old character said that he prefers not to use the…

Secularization Religiosity and Doctrine

Good afternoon everyone! I hope you’re all having a great day. Despite a rather shaky start to the day, everything is now going well and I just read a great article inThe Vancouver Sun, titled …

Atheists can help too.

I was wondering if anyone else thought this was a good idea.

So I was chatting online (Omegle) and I came across this bible beater (looking for cybersex... hmm...) and he said that atheists were satan worshippers and we never did anything as a community. Firstly, I reminded him that we have no churches in which to congregate and plan. Then I remembered. We have Think Atheist. This entire site is like our "church". Just because we don't see each other every week, doesn't mean we can't…

Is it worth our time trying to reason with the emotionally minded people that are religious?

By Philip Sober

I'm an atheist and have been out spoken about it and heard all the nonsense regarding that fact by the religious, such as, I'm a fundie atheist or atheism is my religion, etc... but lately I've questioned my own tactics. What i mean by that is this, as an atheist, I'm also fairly scientific minded, for an uneducated layman that is.

I've come to the rational belief, in the philosophy of…

The exploits of John E. Ensign, Christian Senator

Couldn't make this stuff up folks. It reads like a trashy romance novel. This is the guy that started the "National Prayer Breakfast" and "National Day of Prayer". C Street in Washington. I love it when…

We’d be total shits if it wasn’t for Jesus, admit Christians

Christians against AC Grayling Atheist Bible

Christian organisations have called AC Grayling’s ‘Atheist Bible’ complete nonsense by insisting that if it wasn’t for Jesus they would all be complete and utter shitbags.

The Good Book is Grayling’s attempt to show that inherent kindness is a feature of evolution and bound tightly into our genetic make-up, not the result of an invisible deity threatening people with an… Continue

What's a day without Facebook drama?

Wow, I guess I haven't made it as "known" as I thought. I need to redo my whole profile on FB to exclaim my atheism. I'm getting really tired of having to deal with this constantly.

My aunt and her son (my cousin) are going through an extremely rough time in their lives. My cousin has been wrongly accused of child molestation. I've reviewed all the information I have been given and I have came to the conclusion that he really is being wrongly accused. (The…

Conservative Corruption

Recent discussions have been had on how conservatives are a minority when it comes to "freethinking" sites. You think so?

I wonder why thinking people reject conservative propaganda. I mean, if it's a rational position wouldn't we all climb on board? We have a christian political movement waging war on the middle class, on the poor, on science, on the educated, on education, on worker's rights, on women's rights; does anyone really think this resonates with the freethinking…

It makes me want to scream!

These are some really sweet people and some of them, I have known for a long time. It just makes me want to shake them and scream, "WAKE UP! It's has all been a lie!" I'm hesitant though because these are the type of people that their faith runs so deep, any deviance will send them crying and praying. I really wish that they would put this passion toward something productive for our society, instead of just wishful thinking.. which is what I'm doing too, when I say…

A Cold Stare - Planned section for a book called "A Journey of 'Faith': Memoire of a Transformation from Christian Child to Atheist Adult"

From time to time memories of my former life as a Protestant Christian come back. Some of them are pleasant, some unpleasant, others simply perplexing.

There is one that came to mind today that is still perplexing to this day.

Years ago, I had decided to confirm myself into the church, ironically, this was only a year before my dramatic…

Why I'm wary of "coming out" to my family

I came across a comment by Eoganachta Mor on my last blog post that brought up some similar thoughts of my own. The original comment was as follows:

The irony is that people talk about 'coming out as an atheist' like they do with homosexuals admitting their nature to their parents and friends. It's like there is some great problem with these things. I cannot understand why people…

Aggressive Atheism — Are Atheists Too Militant Towards Christians in the US?

Are Atheists Too Offensive Towards Christians?

A very interesting blog titled “Women in the atheism community, or lack thereof” (which has now recently closed to new comments) has lots of participation on the topic of the low numbers of openly atheist women. One poster suggested that maybe it was some of the aggressive, in-your-face prominent spokesmen for atheism — including anti-choice sexist bigots like Christopher Hitchens and dyed-in-the-wool misogynists like Bill… Continue

In-house fighting on a christian forum <--forum for christians only..

Jesus! Someone asked if Gandhi would go to hell, and the christians are back-biting rather viscious. Anyone want to make a youtube vid w/ this as the script??
I suppose because the way the bible has been written, it causes such diverse interpretations and the invitation for fierce debate within . tsk tsk tsk.
Its very interesting to witness.

A Brief Transcript of a Conversation Overheard in Astronomy Class

Eavesdropping is one of my favorite pastimes, and I always jot down the good stuff.

The greatest fruit of my nosiness this week:

Girl #1: I'm really excited about the dating discussions that the student Baptist center is having! It relates to everybody, it's going to bring a lot of people in.

Girl #2: I know! And it's so like, important. It was just like, whoa, you know? Some of the things we talked…

OK folks, we have a genuine islamophile in our midst. I have learned a great deal from his videos, but I doubt it is what he hoped I would learn. I would venture that your average Muslim is not any more noxious than your average Christian, but both fundamentalist Christians and fundamentalist Muslims are scary! Just so everyone is clear on this; I am armed and I do know how to use it!

Oh the silly Truth arguments

I believe that truth is relative. That is my truth. Christians believe in Jesus, that is their truth. I also believe that no one can say "I have the absolute truth". That is my truth.

So I post a link to a video where Bill O'Reilly is slamming Obama for his "lack of religion" on FB and ten seconds later, a friend of mine, mind you more than half of my friends on Facebook are Christian, posts this: Chase: and if ya swear that there's no truth, and who cares, how come you say it.. like… Continue
