Westboro Baptist Church

I have had the enlightening experience of being both Christian and atheist in my 31 years on this planet, so I am able to look at the Westboro Baptist Church through both sets of eyes.

I followed the WBC story as I have always been intrigued by cults; particularly the way in which cults snare high functioning intelligent adults. Through my own studies regarding these issues, I came to the realisation that, as a Christian, I too was in a cult. I am now an outspoken atheist, free…

Deconverting, well not really

Up until recently I had been a believer, but never a true christian. I got baptized at about 12 years old but never read the bible, I just believed in god and didn’t want to hell. The church I went too is located in Franklinton, North Carolina. Don’t bother looking for it on the map because you probably wont find it. Another one?

I got another religious pamphlet at work tonight. This happens every once in a while. Used to be a born again christian coworker who would leave them behind. Mostly for me. She wanted to save me. You know, the usual. We'd get in debates and she could be fairly nice but she would go out of her way to bring up religion even when I was steering clear. It was to the point that other coworkers, even ones who do believe in god wanted nothing to do with her. She's gone now but sometimes people come… Continue

Standing on the Precipice - My introduction to the atheist community

I'd like to immediately get some demographics out of the way so you may have a better grasp of my situation. I'm 29 years old. I am a computer technician at a small company. I am happily married with two kids, ages seven and nine. I have always lived in Alabama. My hometown is located in south central Alabama, deep in the bible belt. Now that that is out of the way...

I want to thank the atheist community and the creators of this site for give people a place to…
