Like all atheists living in a religious infested society. I run into the theistic mammal once in a while, and following in the footsteps of my hunter-gatherer ancestors; I aim to swiftly take them down, but with clever rhetoric and indisputable logic in lieu of brute force. However, with the passage of time I have started to be less abrasive on the zealot. Why? It is not because I feel remorse when I burst the delusional bubble in which they hold any hopes for an afterlife or moral high…Continue
I am a grade 12 student in Red Deer Canada and i am unfortunate enough to be in a catholic high school. That means that taking religion class is mandatory for me. I currently have an assignment in which i have to respond to several quotes about religion vs science. It is my hope to put together a really well organized and logical argument from an atheist point of view. I have my own ideas, but i think it would be really cool to get some other perspectives, ideas, and…Continue
Well I just joined think atheist so id like to tell you a bit about myself.
My story? I was born (Mumbai, India) - became an atheist when i could reason - continued being an atheist in school and college (typical - Oh my gods! with 10 heads, rituals, idols, millions of gods, superstitions) - then took advice from my agnostic father "Know everything thing about what you are leaving to know why you are really leaving" - so i studied hinduism - then studied hindu philosophy - now i am…Continue
There's a fundamental disconnect between atheists and the word "atheist". Part of this is because there isn't complete agreement on what the word means.
Lack of belief in Godcould simply mean a choice not to believe in God because he is cruel or undesirable for some reason -- but does…
I had another debate... this time with a new world creationist I think they're called. He thinks the Earth is 6000 years old. Six thousand years old... great. He was firm on that too, claiming that there is hard scientific evidence for it and he saw that evidence on some DVD's that he has where christian scientists explain why this is true. Right, and I'm a talking snake that seduced Adam's rib.
I told him about Carbon-14 tests and all of the studies and finding archeologist,…Continue
I don't think many people believe in the devil. They'll go on and on and on about how great god is and how awesome heaven is going to be, but do they truly believe in hell? I don't think so.
You hear a story about a son coming out to his parents, either as gay or as an atheist. What's the first conclusion you're going to draw from the story before he gets into it? Probably that the parents cut off ties with them/want nothing to do with their son anymore.
Think about it.…
NOT SAFE FOR WORK.
In a press release today last week, Maryam Namazie formally announced the #nudephotorevolutionary calendar. As Aliaa Magda Elmahdy chose to stand up against female oppression, we too advocate for free-expression and women’s rights. This calendar features black and white nude photographs, and I’m Ms.…Continue
I feel like I’m going to explode. The pressure is down significantly because I’ve been talking to more people about my situation and how I feel and about the thoughts that have been racing in my head, but I still get headaches every day when I think about how much I’m suppressing myself just to feel “safe” here.
I want SO MUCH to be able to wear a shirt that just says “ATHEIST” on it around campus, but the terrible anxiety I get at the thought of doing such…
I am 21 years old, and I was not raised in a church, or told to say my prayers before I wen to bed at night. To be honest, you wouldn't have known god had a presence in my childhood home at all except for a small wooden cross on the wall. My father and step mother are by self declaration Catholic, though they have never attended Mass once in my life that I know of..now on the other side of the family my mother and step father are very religious; church every sunday, prayer, etc.
I just wanted to drop in and say hello to everyone here. I was pretty involved with this site last year when I was an atheist (which lasted for about two years). I’m not here to attempt to convince anyone of anything. I just grew pretty fond of some of the cool people here. When I left the site, I started to miss some of you guys like Nelson, Heather, and so on. So, I came back, pretty much just to say that. Ha!
I sincerely hope the best for all you guys no matter what ideological…Continue

My name is Jack Lawrence. And I am an atheist.
A large majority of atheists I know in the US refuse to refer to themselves as atheist, only because of the social stigma attached to the word and I feel this is a shame; it's a valid point, but still a shame.
We are often subject to such unfair generalizations as being without morals, selfish and even evil, and are discriminated against in many parts of the US.
People are afraid to "come out" for fear losing their job, or if they own a business they fear great losses in…Continue
People laugh at science and some of the theories that come out of it. They think they know all the answers because their holy books tell them what they want to know. The truth is modern science hasn't been around nearly long enough for this to be fair.
Religion is like the annoying big brother who has been playing a video game for the past three months without getting through level 3. Science would be the little brother who comes along and beats level 7 after a week of playing.…Continue

Yesterday morning, representing the Houston Atheists, I joined roughly fifty other secular Houstonians for a freethought coffee social. The meetup was organized by the Houston Freethought Alliance, with a goal of bringing our groups together for secular fellowship.…Continue
I will be attending the Reason Rally with a group of fellow atheists and free thinkers from Mississippi State University. If there is anyone in the north Mississippi/Alabama area that would like to travel with us let me know ASAP. We are considering renting a van and/or carpooling to Tuscaloosa to "get on the bus" with the group there. The more the merrier, especially when it comes to logic and reason!

I got on a plane Friday morning from Missouri to San Antonio, Texas, to spend Christmas with my daughter Syan, and her boyfriend, both of whom are in the Air Force. This is what Christmas is all about. I'm so enjoying the time with them and getting away from the day to day grind back at home.
I am an atheist who always saw Christmas as a time to spend with family and/or friends and truly enjoying the day. I'm so glad I don't have the baggage of religion to make this time anything more…Continue

I've been an atheist less than a year, and I have to say that it has been one of the loneliest of my life. Even surrounded by people, I have never felt more intellectually alone. The closest thing that I have to spirituality is an awed feeling of the universe, its beauty, and our place in it. But yet I'm not surrounded by anyone that I can physically see or touch to share that feeling of awe with, without invoking a god that I do not believe exists. There is no way that I can, or would, go…Continue
I'm.. Not good with introductions, but.. Here it is anyway, I'm Steven and I'm 18.. I've been an Atheist or at least doubtful of the existence of a god/gods since I was 14-15 years old, maybe even younger.. I've always loved science, and get a tingle inside when I look at the universe around us (and within us). I may be a slight hippy.. And "peace" is something I actually believe in, perhaps I'm being naive though. I should stop before this turns into a rambling…Continue
We are now accepting stories for a groundbreaking book for atheists. A Time to Come Out: Revealing Non-Belief in a Theistic World is slated for nationwide release in Spring 2012.
Hiding a part of your life from your family, friends, and colleagues is…Continue
