Speech I gave about God

In my public speaking class, we were assigned to write a speech. The speech needed to use either facts or emotional appeal to persuade the audience. I wrote this in a very short amount of time. Haha... I got one slow clap by a nice girl in my class. A boy in the front row said he lost all respect for me. What do you guys think of it?

God is Imaginary

Slavery Is Fine as Long as It Gets People Closer to God!

So last night, I got into a very heated, very emotional debate with someone on Facebook.  In case you didn't know, that's what Facebook is for.  You get on there, you find some post that some friend has put up, and you troll the shit out of it.  That, obviously, is a joke, but it can sometimes be seen as truth.  I took screen captures of the conversation with the woman I was "debating," but in order to keep identities private, I will not post those screen caps, even though I feel her…

PLAYBOY INTERVIEW: RICHARD DAWKINS

published Aug 20, 2012

by CHIP ROWE

PLAYBOY: What is the A pin you’re wearing?

DAWKINS: It stands for “atheist.”

PLAYBOY: Like a scarlet letter?

DAWKINS: It’s not meant to reflect that. It’s part of my foundation’s Out Campaign. It means stand out and reach out, as well as come out for the beliefs you hold, and…

For promo night,St. Paul Saints' (minor league baseball) inspiration isn't at all divine

(normally I don't post the entire article, but in this case I will.. )

By Joe Soucheray

At first I thought it was a joke and I had to go into verification mode, only to discover that it isn't a joke and that on the night of Aug. 10 the St. Paul Saints are having…

The presumptuous Billy Graham

Blogging for logic // Religious assumptions

Greetings all!

I haven't posted on TA for a while but have been lurking the site and enjoying everyone's videos and blogs. Regrettably, my free time has been at a premium, and jumping in to discussions right at the deep end is what has ultimately suffered. That said, I've recently decided to try my hand at blogging as a stress outlet, and to put my usual ramblings and reactions into written words. My most recent posting was of a theological nature, so I figured I'd share it with…

Re-posting my Bible reviews on Think Atheist

Hi all,

I've just joined the Think Atheist community.  Not long ago I created a Twitter account for my blog, An Atheist Reviews the Bible, and I began to follow this site's Twitter feed despite not really knowing what Think Atheist was all about.  I finally decided to take the plunge and sign up.

A little about myself: I'm a lifelong atheist, never having believed in a deity.  I was raised in a happy…

Wearing a cross?

I'm an agnostic atheist. My immediate family contains no atheists though. They're all pretty much Southern Baptists, save for a couple Lutherans.

For graduation and my 18th birthday, my aunt gave me a beautiful necklace with matching earrings and bracelets. They're covered in my favorite color (teal) and peace signs, making it the perfect gift for me! I was so happy and excited to wear them. But there's crosses on there, with that hippie design (larger at top and bottom than… Continue

Atheism and music

I was chatting to a guy yesterday and religion came up in conversation. The usual "so what religion are you?" question was asked by him and I said I was not religious. He was not sure what I meant by 'not religious' so I told him that I was an atheist and did not believe that there was a god and that all religions are made by man.

This is when it got interesting, he said - "Oh, so you listen to heavy metal and stuff..."??? HUH??

For the first time (or one of the very…

What determines that you have won the debate?

I pose this question, since I have watched many of William Lane Craig's great academy award winning performances. I have heard many atheist say that he has won most of the debates against atheist, but I have always come to the conclusion that he has not provided anything with substance. He uses the same old arguments that are known not to be very strong. Therefore from my point of view he lost. I think a person wins a debate if their claims are true, if they provide evidence, and if the…

Secular left

I was dieheartend at atheistcon in Melbourne this year by a number of things: Hirsti Ali suggested that Islam was 'our' biggest concern, as did Harris; Mr Deity referenced our government before retracting in recognition of the fact he was speaking in Australia; Eugene Scott was introduced as representing the 'National Centre for Science Education (NCSE), we, in Australia don't have such a thing; Lesile Canold suggested that ' this is a numbers game' and that we, the atheists, should be good…

What it feels like to be an atheist

I found this in my collection of articles, but for the life of me I don't remember who wrote it.  A very relateable article nonetheless!

What it feels like to be an Atheist

I've always been an atheist, I know nothing else. From my earliest memory of considering the question, I'm talking maybe age three or four, I was skeptical as hell. The God stories just didn't add up. I'm amazed everyday of my life that everyone isn't an atheist like me. But…

What do you expect to get out of it?

Like all atheists living in a religious infested society. I run into the theistic mammal once in a while, and following in the footsteps of my hunter-gatherer ancestors; I aim to swiftly take them down, but with clever rhetoric and indisputable logic in lieu of brute force. However, with the passage of time I have started to be less abrasive on the zealot. Why? It is not because I feel remorse when I burst the delusional bubble in which they hold any hopes for an afterlife or moral high…

Science Vs. Religion

Hi everyone.

I am a grade 12 student in Red Deer Canada and i am unfortunate enough to be in a catholic high school. That means that taking religion class is mandatory for me. I currently have an assignment in which i have to respond to several quotes about religion vs science. It is my hope to put together a really well organized and logical argument from an atheist point of view. I have my own ideas, but i think it would be really cool to get some other perspectives, ideas, and…

HINDU ATHEIST

Well I just joined think atheist so id like to tell you a bit about myself.

My story? I was born (Mumbai, India) -  became an atheist when i could reason - continued being an atheist in school and college (typical - Oh my gods! with 10 heads, rituals, idols, millions of gods, superstitions) - then took advice from my agnostic father "Know everything thing about what you are leaving to know why you are really leaving" - so i studied hinduism - then studied hindu philosophy - now i am…

Aligning Atheism

There's a fundamental disconnect between atheists and the word "atheist". Part of this is because there isn't complete agreement on what the word means.

  • Lack of belief in God
  • Lack of belief in God's existence

Lack of belief in Godcould simply mean a choice not to believe in God because he is cruel or undesirable for some reason -- but does…

Okay then...

I had another debate... this time with a new world creationist I think they're called. He thinks the Earth is 6000 years old. Six thousand years old... great. He was firm on that too, claiming that there is hard scientific evidence for it and he saw that evidence on some DVD's that he has where christian scientists explain why this is true. Right, and I'm a talking snake that seduced Adam's rib.

I told him about Carbon-14 tests and all of the studies and finding archeologist,…

Do people truly believe in satan and hell? Doesn't seem so...

I don't think many people believe in the devil. They'll go on and on and on about how great god is and how awesome heaven is going to be, but do they truly believe in hell? I don't think so.

You hear a story about a son coming out to his parents, either as gay or as an atheist. What's the first conclusion you're going to draw from the story before he gets into it? Probably that the parents cut off ties with them/want nothing to do with their son anymore.

Think about it.…
