There are two distinct ways of leading your life. The first is to follow someone else into obscurity – blind, cold, and full of false promises. All over the world, there is a plethora of false prophets ready to abuse your faith and trust, ready to betray you at the next moment if it is to their own advantage. The second, then, is to enlighten the way in front of you by your own lights – take reason as your guide, and it shall never betray you. You may be wrong from time…
Gimme a sec to get this stuff outta the way and we'll get to the links!
I trickle out Sunday School links throughout the week on Google+. No reason to wait to read all the fascinating stuff! There's a great community of people I share the links and interact with. And on Twitter is where we do…
There once was a time when I was the most faithful and religious of them all... But through the process of higher education, and the use of logic and critical thinking, I could no longer deny the fact that I had grown into a full-blown atheist, leaving my parents and my brothers and sister behind in Never-never Land. I did not intend to tell them about it...not for a while at least (I planned on moving out first). I was reading Christopher Hitchens' "God Is Not Great" and left it on the…
Hi guys! Another Sunday! Of course, I want to say thanks to everyone for your FB LIKE's, your +1's on Google+, your thumbs up on StumbleUpon, and your tweets on Twitter. That you would find Sunday School so valuable that you would want to share it with others makes the time spent on putting each edition together absolutely worth it! Thank you! Last week's edition was viewed just shy of 800 times thanks to all your help. Let's see if we can reach a thousand! Spread the word. The…
A young girl inside of Iran (this happened recently but I do not have exact date) was arrested for "bad hijab" or headscarf and was forced into the car and kicked by the cop as a sign of disrespect that she is "trash" in their minds. We can only hope that this poor sister was also not raped and we can only imagine worse...the brutal Islamic Republic of Terror…
I am one of the many people who chuckled at news stories about Harold Camping’s prediction that the world was going to end on May 21st. I heard about the rapture parties and the planned celebratory… Continue
I found this article to be very interesting as it basically blames the social times of the 60s and 70s in America for the prolonged problem of sex abuse to young boys from Priests. More notable, there isn't one mention in the study (says the LA Times) that celibacy itself plays a role. Not surprising the Catholics (Vatican) would denote any such allegation that any of their stringent practices, especially the aforementioned one, would have anything to do with anyone in their organization doing… Continue
On Saturday I wrote about Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted, head of the Phoenix diocese, punishing a nun who tried to help save a dying woman's life by advising her to take her doctor's advice and abort her eleven-week-old fetus. The doctors and the hospital both agreed that the woman's pregnancy would probably kill her given her condition.
Olmsted evidently thought the woman should have rolled the dice and… Continue
You're full of it! Another show of crocodile tears and
empty promises that something will be done to give the illusion of
caring! Another call for prayers, as if THAT will get results!
Honestly, I don't expect ANYTHING to be done! You hide behind opulent
walls and wear threads of gold while you send your minions to starving
third world countries to preach the evils of birth control! When are
you going stop acting like putting two hands together… Continue
I'm sitting back reading Nelson's Sunday School and something has occurred to me. After decades of this inaction on priests whom have raped children all over the world, we have seen little to no action from governments and parents. Governments aren't prosecuting the church for having protected these guys. They aren't prosecuting Priests and telling the… Continue
I've been writing this series over on my blog http://AngietheAntiTheist.blogspot.com I've put this passage in it's entirety here, and the links for comments on this post, and follow-up posts in the series, are provided at the end.
Looking at "The Woman's Role in the Home" by Christian homeschooling mother Rachel Harkins makes me want to wash out my eyes with bleach. Or acid.
Here in the Not My God penthouse, I focus on stories of atheists that are particularly difficult and moving for the purposes of illustration and because this obviously makes for a more interesting book. So if anyone out there thinks I cherry-pick the extremes, yes, I am, but that’s sort of the point.
A new but predictable story out of Ireland was released today. The Irish institutions for juveniles (old tern for the jailing of juvenile criminals and incorrigibles) were often run by religious groups including the Catholic Chruch. It was announced that abuses had certainly occurred from 1940 to the mid 80's at "Endemic" rates.
The abuses ranged from emotional to physical beatings for no known reason to sexual abuse. The children lived in fear not knowing if the abuse was going to come… Continue
In my work as an advocate for foster children in America, I’ve seen personally a level of abuse that might damage the psyche of an average person. I once saw a two year old child, with a face still so swollen he couldn’t open his eyes, returned to abusive home after two weeks in the hospital because “it was just the first time it happened.” So when I hear the abuse word thrown out willy-nilly, devaluing the plight of children who are actually abused, it makes me want to start a crusade.… Continue
