I heard that life is sacred, but I don’t know what that word means.
A woman outside a clinic told me that a tiny mass of cells was a person, but I didn’t think it looked like one. I heard her say that the bundle of cells was just what a person looked like when it was very small. She said it had the same genetic makeup and all of the same DNA as a fully grown person and therefore had the same right to life. I watched her scratch…Continue
I'm asking people who believe in souls.
One popular declaration is that a Soul is invoked when Sperm hits Egg to form Zygote. But really, says who? It's not in the bible or other ancient scripture, because those were written before science discovered sperm and egg... unless you feel you have the right to interpret scripture in a way that looks prophetic.
Or how about after, when zygote splits into two, to make identical twins? Does one soul now split into two, or do…Continue

I am a little worked up right now. I just viewed a segment on CBS Sunday Morning about a Catholic hopital in Phoenix, Arizona involved in the termination of a pregnancy by a mother of four. Apparently the woman developed severe complications and was facing heart failure and imminent death. The chief surgeon of the hospital decided to save her life and performed the abortion after consent from the staff ethics board headed by a sister nun. The board approved the procedure and the woman's life…Continue
I'm a woman. I'm Italian. This is a report of one of the most important italian newspapers, that warns about a frightening prevision based on a worrying statistic: in five years, italian women won't be able to carry out an abortion in their Country.…Continue
This is in response to WL Craig's argument that the slaughter of women, children and unborn fetuses was justified in the bible, as he claims they could have grown into potentially evil people that did much more destruction in the world. And according to WL Craig, we should actually feel sorry for the soldiers that had to kill these defenseless people. WL Craig should not be allowed to get…Continue
I was scanning the inter-webs and came across this article in The Washington Post's Faith section (Yes, I read the faith section quite often): Pope Seeks Protestant Allies to Combat…
Atheism to me defines only what I don't believe in.
Figuring out what I do? What I stand for? The conclusions I come to based on my observation of human behavior?
Slightly more complicated.
Ok. Much more complicated.
We don't get a user manual. We don't have dogma to follow or holy men to tell us what to do or how to think. As an American, I'm sort of used to that and looking to fill a void.
With my OWN conclusions!
Wow. This is crazy. This is shit my grandmother had to face. Are we devolving? Is this what Iran looked like before the revolution?
"You knit me together in my mother's womb. Psalm 139:13"…Continue
Ok, so first of all this was posted by a dear friend of mine, who just so happens to be uber Christian. A few years back, she had a lot of problems getting pregnant and once she did, she miscarried. It was a very sad time for her and her family and I feel bad for any couple who has to go through this...but...after extensive medical treatments and what not, "god" blessed her with 2 beautiful twin girls. Now, this is just one thing I don't have the guts to call her out on...[mainly because she…Continue

Let me start by saying that I am not from the US, but as I know most of the readers of this (great) site are from there, I am going to write it as if I were from the US of A.
Now, why is it that the prejudice stands at thinking of atheists as democrats? Why is it that conservatives are only thought of as being Bible-belt, Jesus-loving, creationist simpletons?
I consider myself a libertarian atheist. In all things "social" I would…Continue
I'm locking this discussion so that we don't have multiple conversations on the same subject since I'm posting this in many different locations around the site.

For the very first time in my life, I am actually ashamed to be American.
Despite the overt disgust churning in my stomach right now, I'm hesitant to write this.
It goes against everything I stand for. I'm American. I love my country. After traveling the world, I know this is an amazing place. I'm patriotic and political. I believe in change from within.
But then this.…Continue
I know a while back I read a post on here by an atheist who was against abortion. I never did understand what the point was with the post. That being said, I have been thinking about why a group of people, who believe "the souls" of the innocent go to "heaven" care if a woman has an abortion.
Would it not stand to reason (I know, I know) if you believe an unborn "child" is innocent and that innocent beings go to heaven, then that innocent being would go to heaven, hence, not a problem…Continue
This is a chapter from my new book…Continue
