Explain That!

"So, you're an Atheist/Scientist/Rationalist/Skeptic, eh?"

"Yes... And?"

"I saw a ghost - EXPLAIN THAT!"

...

If something similar hasn't happened to you guys yet (assuming you're all 'Atheists/Scientists/Rationalists/Skeptics', which I hope isn't necessarily the…

What ARE the Chances?

What happened to all of the good miracles?

I mean, the interesting stuff, coincidentally, all happened long before video cameras - or the internet - were around and ready to at least semi-reliably record and distribute actual…

Richard Feynman - My Kind of Scientist

I've been meaning to write a 'love letter' to this man for a while, so here it is.

I'll begin with a quote:

“I can live with doubt and uncertainty and not knowing. I think it is much more interesting to live not knowing than to have answers that might be wrong. If we will only allow that, as we progress, we remain unsure, we will leave opportunities for…

'Arrogant' Atheists

Disclaimer: I may not necessarily wholeheartedly stand by everything written below, but it's not like I'm not allowed to poke fun once in a while...

___

folly1

It doesn't take long on the internet, or in real life, to come across this old chestnut:

'Atheists are so full of themselves, thinking they're right all of the time... So much smug certainty, so much confident piss-taking, so much inconsiderate hate-speech I can't help but…

The Faith/Evidence Paradox

dichotomy

To what extent can a religious believer actually argue their faith, reasonably? Not very far, it seems to me.

There are two quantities to consider here, by which all human beliefs can relate back to: Faith and Evidence.

Let's look at the first. Faith, by its very definition, is 'belief without evidence'. It is a gut feeling, and it cannot be proven wrong. Why? Because, for…

Freethought Social + Meetup!

Yesterday morning, representing the Houston Atheists, I joined roughly fifty other secular Houstonians for a freethought coffee social. The meetup was organized by the Houston Freethought Alliance, with a goal of bringing our groups together for secular fellowship.…

Did you know that Atheists are trapped in a prison of reason?

http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2011/07/jennifer_fulwiler_vacant-eyed.php

So I came across this article… don’t remember if it was a link through here or google, but I read some of the posts linked in that article by Jennifer Fulwiler, the former Atheist now Catholic Convert…and in one of her articles (Reasoning with Atheists:…

Two plus two is still four, even if a million people believe its five

Our current government system has no place for religion. No place for myth, dogma, or rhetoric. I will concede that religion did have its place in a more primitive time but that time is long since past for America and the modern world. Not until we educate the rest of this planet will we put the fairytale to rest, not until information and facts replace myth and folklore will we be free from the hate and division that religion is so famous for. Nothing we do in life today is based on myth. We… Continue

A fool hath said in his heart…

from Martin Pribble

1The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.2The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.

3
They are all gone aside,…

Imagine a world without...

Laying upon warm sand looking upon the stars & moon listening to the sounds of water slamming against its self, closing my eyes to only open them in a world of my own wonder, colonies on the moon, cities in the clouds, elevators to space stations, cleaner air, healthier people, happier people. A world not to far from our grasp. It could have been already at our feet if the religious hate mongers hadn't destroyed the work of the genius Archimedes. Millions have died & continue to… Continue

Talk About "Nothing"

What is "Nothing?" This question sounds like an oxymoron, because "Is" can only be said about something that exist. Nothing can not exist unless it is "Something" which, in my understanding of the word, it isn't. but when I hear the words "Something from Nothing" I get the sense that I am wrong and “Nothing” simply means the absence of a particular something, or equal to the word Zero.

So again, “What is Nothing?”

Understanding the word might give me better… Continue

Bible Contradictions in Graph Form

So I'm wasting time not working and run across this blog that was linked to Reddit. It's short and to the point in getting out a Graph put out by the Reason Project. it lists 439 bible contractions and where they are found in the Bible. Often not in just one place, but multiple locations showing the conflicting statements everywhere. It's so cool. I will certainly be saving a copy of the PDF for myself. the link is zoom ready but… Continue

Billboard Photo Op Thoughts

I just got back home about an hour ago from the group photo at the Tampa Bay Coalition of Reason billboard. The estimated number of people is 50, but I don't have an exact count. The crowd that turned out for it was such a great mix of age ranges...and most of them brilliantly pulled off a look of normalcy.:-P (I'm not exactly sure what some people think an atheist looks like, but I know I wouldn't be able to pick one out of a crowd.) Two… Continue

On Denominations and God's Absence

I chiefly write this note for Christian readers in hopes they will take 5 minutes to read it all, but I know 5 minutes is much to ask, especially for what might be considered offense or arrogance in the following paragraphs. Read if you'd like.

I took a screenshot of facebook's "Religious Views" pull-down menu the other day and noticed that there are way too many choices. Then I realized how unbelievable it is that there are still this many variations of Christianity. Then I… Continue
