If you’re anything like me you get excited about new possibilities and technologies, and your imagination gets very stimulated by thinking of future advances. This issue does just that for your braindbuds: we’ve created an homage to Brave New World with articles on operant conditioning, sleep-learning, reproductive technology and psychological manipulation. We’ve also got some great new scientific developments that are coming to fruition now or in the near future of 2014: Memristor… Continue

A few days ago I had an epiphany. I was explaining to someone why it is more logical for the Big Bang to have brought the universe into existence than for a supernatural supreme being to appear, as if by magic, then 'him' creating the universe.
I explained that if we assume that we need a designer, an all powerful deity, to create the universe, earth, humans, etc. then the natural assumption would be that another more powerful and complex deity would be required to create that deity… Continue

I see it often enough. At school an atheist and a theist are once again having a go at eachother for no reason other then one thinks differently. Atheist stereotypes generally consist of us having no morals and thinking we are better and higher then everybody else. I like to disagree with these stereotypes as many of us would but it bothers me sometimes the arrogance that we can show to theist.
I disagree with religion and I admit I have said things that I probably shouldn't of to… Continue

When it comes to its education standards, Texas has had a lot of bad luck these last few years.
Whether they were contending with a willfully ignorant dentist whom Texas Governor Rick Perry somehow thought was qualified to chair the State Board of Education (SBoE) and who… Continue

Near the end of the first act of Kander and Ebb’s musical “Cabaret”, the character Herr Schultz observes, “How the world can change, it can change like that, due to one little word: ‘Married.’” Just a little over two weeks ago, on June 24, 2011, it seemed as if the world had changed “like that.” The State of New York extended the legal right to marry to same-sex couples—something it had declined to… Continue

To paraphrase Michael Specter in a TED talk
, "You are entitled to your own truths, but you aren't entitled to your own facts." This is a poignant message and one that deserves further exploration.
(Edit: the actual quote, as pointed out in comments on my blog was “...And listen, everyone’s entitled to their… Continue

This is a phrase I have started seeing online more and more. People (in general and on both sides of the spectrum) are griping about the "new Atheists" and how they seem to be shoving their non-beliefs down other peoples throats.
I understand the problems that people may have with "In your face Atheism" as I like to call it, however, in this day and age I honestly thing the main goal of people who do this (myself included) is to inform others. It took me 10 years to "come… Continue

A religious friend of mine and I tend to debate & talk about religion quite frequently. And for a religious person he is quite smart. Our latest debate centered around the old testament vs new testament. Here's his reasoning as to why Christains disregard parts of the old testament.
My friend: "The old Covenant was given to Israel through Moses. That covenant did not and could not give life. There was no salvation through the rituals and sacrifices in the… Continue

It has been a really bad experience of drug-like intoxication with American religious fantasies which transmitted to other areas of knowledge transformed my life in an erratic and painful trip through the darkness of other people's hallucinations. But I have this one marvelous good which preserves me: I am not ashamed to learn history and I am very grateful to the ones who created web-sites like…

A basic tenant of what we stand for here in the US, and preferably around the world, is Freedom of Religion. Well it's time to speak out for a Muslim Group. A Muslim Group that is facing problems in their city, Sidney, New York, for having a cemetery on it's property. It is in fact an approved cemetery
. The city is trying to force the cemetery to dig up the bodies and move them to the city cemetery. Why? No specific laws in… Continue

This is a strange place to be in. I have told my husband that I don't love god and I am not a christian and that I don't believe in fairy tales. I wanted to but I don't. I wanted to believe that I could blame something or someone else when ever I did something wrong. All I had to do was say the devil made me do it or the devil put those thoughts in my head. I knew all the time that we are all responsible for our actions, good , bad , or indifferent. He is still a christian and prays for me and… Continue

Songs for you, here's some infoFiction
is a sad piece about reliance on a made up faith.Go Back

Best wishes and a Happy New Year / Happy Monkey to all of my atheist friends :-).
My wish for this year is that all of our atheist communities around the world continue their steady consolidation and growth.
This is a huge achievement for a community which holds no beliefs in common and is simply getting together on the grounds that we lack a belief in gods.
We're not sheep and so our biggest challenge will be to learn to not only accept and… Continue

Conservatives are working on a re-write
of the Bible to remove the possibility of Liberal misrepresentation of god's will. Yeah...
This is nothing short of Blasphemy. It's also particularly entertaining. This is a rebuke of the words chosen by god (certainly not my beliefs). These are people at odds with god, but rather than finding the right religion, they intend on changing this one.… Continue

Adam Carolla used to have a bit on his radio show called "Not a Jew" where Non-Jewish people doing insane or criminal things would be talked about then it would be announced that they were, "Definitely, not a Jew." Today a story
out of New Jersey will put some heat on the notion that Jews don't commit crimes.
44 people have been alleged to be… Continue

This is an excerpt from my latest Examiner piece: "Back in January of this year, New Jersey residents living near Morris Plains started seeing something strange in the night sky, a series of mysterious, unexplained lights. This left many to wonder if these lights might be a space craft from outer space. It wasn't long before the mainstream media picked up the story and started started speaking to UFO "experts" like those at the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), who repeated insisted that the sighting… Continue
