This morning, we buried a true son of Paskaloochee. His name was (is?) Earnest Hetman, but everyone knew him as Het. Everyone loved him as well, which explains why a particular incident of primary importance to the latter half of his life was curiously unmentioned by his official eulogizers. I recently lost a relative, a cousin. I barely knew her, but we had been in the process of reconnecting after nearly 25 years. The circumstances of her life and sudden death are what make it especially poignant to me and are what made me decide to write about it.
