Atheism is interesting to me because I get to be an induvidual who is responsible for my own morality. I get to disagree with things that Christians just seem to accept, like monogomy, homosexuality etc. I find the real joy in being able to think about my own morality is when I can just drop all of my preconcived notions and just think, regardless of whether or not my ideas and thoughts are morally acceptable.

Take for instance, incest. I realize that for many people incest…

Once Again the Daily Mail Falls Short of the Mark...

A few days prior to my writing this blog, an article was published in the Daily Mail, which was written by one Melanie Phillips, entitled "Yes, gays have often been the victims of prejudice. But they risk becoming the new McCartyites". In this article, Phillips is arguing that those in the LGBT community and the lobbyists therein, are going too far in their quest for equality, and it is having a detrimental effect on society. Unfortunately, this argument… Continue

Bullying in schools - Jesus Needs New PR

A Facebook friend just posted this article from the theist website 'Jesus Needs New PR' to her wall, and I thought it was worth reposting here. In my opinion it's an incredibly well-written, powerful, piece.

The core of it:

All across this country, every single day, students who identify as GLBT are experiencing hate, being bullied, getting teased, or being treated… Continue

The Role of American Evangelists in the Ugandan Anti-Homosexuality Bill

By Ed Brayton and a story in the New York Times. I just think the story deserves as much coverage as possible so I'm reposting the article from Ed Brayton's blog here. I have been particularly attentive to changes, causes, and events surrounding the Ugandan Anti-Homosexuality Bill and this story,… Continue

Teetering on the Edge of the Wagon

So, last weekend, I went to this giant conference in Anaheim, CA called RE Congress (http://www.recongress.org) It for Catholic Religious Educators. As I've said before, I still spend a good part of my time helping my mom out in the church, and this including going to conferences such as these.
To tell the truth, I had a great time. Of course, it was only a five day trip, with 1.5 days spent at the conference, 1.5 days spent sight seeing in and around…

My Sordid Love Affair with Liberal Churches

I've sort of talked about this before, but it seems to be a subject I just can't seem to escape: The ever-present allure of 'Liberal' Christians. Namely, the one's who accept (or, at least, don't outright reject) gays and lesbians, evolution, and have more lax policies on things like Reconciliation (Confession) and the ultimate, unquestioning power of the Vatican (they tend to question it).

I have heard some different ideas on why it's so easy for some people to be 'sucked…

Liberal Religionists: A Lesser of Two Evils?

I know I said I was going to post about something else first, but I've been thinking about this topic a lot lately.

As I'm sure most of you know, a few days ago, the Catholic Church offered something of a warped olive branch to the Anglican Church, saying that if any of their members were unsettled by the fact that the Anglicans were (gasp!) allowing women and gays to be ministers, they could simply defect back to the Catholics, where a warm and welcomed seat would be waiting for… Continue

My Idea of Fun: An Impromptu, Three-Hour Discourse with a Creationist

(A quick side note about all of the names in the post: I'm terrible at names, and I can't really remember anyone's just yet. So they're probably wrong, or attributed to the wrong people. I might go back and fix them once I find out the actual names.)

Sorry for the delay in posting this. At first I was just going to take a small break over the weekend, then I caught the bug that was going around while at the local church picnic. (Apparently, that blessing of the food didn't do too… Continue
