My Dad's Funeral

I had no reason to believe that my dad's funeral wouldn't be religious. It was at the church where my parents were married and so my mom chose the very same Calvary Temple to have his service. I was asked to read from the bible, if either I or my half sister would read it. Since she made all sorts of excuses not to read it, I ended up doing it. Atheist Ceremonies

As some of you know here, my father passed a week ago. It brings to light a problem that we as non-believers face. Where do we turn for support in ceremonies? Christians can turn to a church, pastor or virtually any funeral home. When my wife and I got married, I asked that our wedding be non-religious and the lady agreed. Over My Dead Body

Funerals, aren't they a sight to not see. What is it all about? Mourning? Depression? Of course theres going to be that at a funeral, but it shouldn't be promoted even more by just the setting. A typical funeral:

Rows of people in a church

All Wearing Black

Morbid music (preferably organ)

Priest that talks about the diseased

Crying, mourning, full sadness headon.
