NEW YORK – American Atheists, the leading secular organization in the U.S., has launched its Christmas billboard campaign in New York City, urging people to abandon the Jesus Christ "myth." "Keep the merry! Dump the myth!" the billboard…

I got on a plane Friday morning from Missouri to San Antonio, Texas, to spend Christmas with my daughter Syan, and her boyfriend, both of whom are in the Air Force. This is what Christmas is all about. I'm so enjoying the time with them and getting away from the day to day grind back at home.
I am an atheist who always saw Christmas as a time to spend with family and/or friends and truly enjoying the day. I'm so glad I don't have the baggage of religion to make this time anything more… Continue

That time of year is fast approaching when people begin to celebrate their various holidays. And, this year as usual, the Christian supremacists are whining as loud as they possibly can. Continue
This year I’m friends with an older man on Facebook; he puts up a status saying, and I quote:
“I DO NOT CARE IF THIS DOES OFFEND SOMEONE…THIS IS WHAT I BELIEVE…I AM SICK AND TIRED OF EVERY YEAR WHEN CHRISTMAS COMES AROUND; THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO TAKE CHRIST OUT OF CHRISTMAS BECAUSE IT…

Let’s Put Claus Back Into Christmas:
A modest proposal
Remember Christmas when you were a child?
The Season was a time to come together as family and friends...and even make Peace with your enemies for at least a few days. Christmas was all about bringing people together. Religious differences were just like social class or politics or even gender...every town was like Mayberry and had their… Continue

So it is Christmas day and I have just arrived at my Grandparents home to celebrate as is the tradition and has been since I remember. One thing has changed since those days of old and that is my deconversion from fundamentalist christian into atheism. This is something that only my brother and his wife are aware of and even then we avoid the subject.
But I digress..
I had just arrived at my grandparents home and open the door to walk into the middle of a… Continue

Ever notice how upset people get around "The Holidays"...? So are many others and studies point to Christmas being the cause of many unnecessary stresses and unhealthy practices. Imaginary reasons for continuing the practice are leading some to reconsider this celebration of the new year as… Continue

In the United States there is a widespread idea that there is an ongoing "war on Christmas" waged by atheists and in general, people who prefer a secular government in which every person has the same rights. As usual, this idea is proposed by the whiny religious right (mainly conservative Christians). Continue

I was sitting in my office today. I was alone as almost everyone else has taken off for the holiday. I had Pandora on Christmas music. I listen to a lot of Baroque, Renaissance, medieval, celtic and new age music anyhow and that was the flavor of my Christmas music. I also had Trans-Sibrian Railway and Manheim Steamroller. I really enjoyed it.
I like Church. I don't mean the religion. Or The Church.
I like the Christmas Service Happy Music… Continue

Christmas is just around the corner, and with it, the complaints from many religious leaders about converting it in a celebration of consumption. For example:
Peruvian Cardinal Cipriani criticizes consumption on Christmas… Continue

I have a confession - I love the holiday season. I love Christmas' blatant commercialism and Santa Claus and all of that. One of my by-the-book atheist friends, however, was quick to make fun of me for wanting to get Christmas lights for my house. Is it really such a conflict being an atheist but enjoying the holiday festivities?

This came up in a forum discussion already; and probably many other discussions, but I thought I'd make it into a blog because it sums up my beliefs perfectly.
I celebrate "Christmas" three different ways....and I'm an Atheist!
I celebrate my parents version...Christ's bday.
then I celebrate my fiance's version...yule.
then I celebrate a secular version with my friends...about kindness.
I'd celebrate Kwanzaa and Hanukkah,… Continue

“God is Santa Clause for grown ups.” You’ve probably heard this before, it’s a fairly common quip used by atheists to illustrate their view on both the existence and purpose of a personal deity. It’s also a surefire way to get under the skin of most any theist. Is it fair though? Are we oversimplifying the punishment and reward aspects of the typical religious dogma we encounter? Are we just trying to make their beliefs out to be childish? After giving the subject a bit of thought recently, I… Continue

Check out the link at the bottom of this post to listen to the interview from Fresh Air today on NPR:
Humanism--the belief that ethics and morality can be vested in rationality, rather than a supernatural deity--might sound like a departure from faith communities and culture, but according to Greg Epstein, it doesn't have to be.
In his new book, Good Without God: What A Billion Nonreligious People Do Believe, Greg Epstein responds to challenges against humanism that spring… Continue

This has been going on since I was at school here in the UK (about 8 years... hmm feel old saying that) and suffice to say I'm tired of it.
First they said the Muslims wanted it changed, none of the Muslims I knew gave a rats ass about it being called Christmas! Some celebrated the traditional side of the festivities even.
Now, it's just general political correctness with a side of "it's the atheists!" throw in after the bus campaigns this year.
Next year? How about we blame… Continue

Chambersburg Pennsylvania appears to be this years winner in the crazy Nativity Scene battle. Last year it was my state of Washington whom made headlines because the Freedom From Religion Foundation placed a sign next to the Nativity Scene. Bill O'Reilly lost his mind and Megyn Kelly had to handle
him on his own show. This year in Chambersburg a request was made to put a sign next to the Nativity Scene acknowledging… Continue

I know that it is not Christmas but I was not a member on this web page until a couple days ago and I really want to share this information with you. I wrote this informal paper in college and the professor loved it.
Grammar may not be completely correct but I was young, give me a break grammar Nazi's. (lol)
