What the Christmas Season Means to Me
I got on a plane Friday morning from Missouri to San Antonio, Texas, to spend Christmas with my daughter Syan, and her boyfriend, both of whom are in the Air Force. This is what Christmas is all about. I'm so enjoying the time with them and getting away from the day to day grind back at home.
I am an atheist who always saw Christmas as a time to spend with family and/or friends and truly enjoying the day. I'm so glad I don't have the baggage of religion to make this time anything more…

"Happy Holidays" and American Christian Supremacism
That time of year is fast approaching when people begin to celebrate their various holidays. And, this year as usual, the Christian supremacists are whining as loud as they possibly can.
This year I’m friends with an older man on Facebook; he puts up a status saying, and I quote:
“I DO NOT CARE IF THIS DOES OFFEND SOMEONE…THIS IS WHAT I BELIEVE…I AM SICK AND TIRED OF EVERY YEAR WHEN CHRISTMAS COMES AROUND; THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO TAKE CHRIST OUT OF CHRISTMAS BECAUSE IT…

Let’s Put Claus Back Into Christmas:
A modest proposal
Remember Christmas when you were a child?
The Season was a time to come together as family and friends...and even make Peace with your enemies for at least a few days. Christmas was all about bringing people together. Religious differences were just like social class or politics or even gender...every town was like Mayberry and had their…

A Family Christmas Debate: Age of accountability?
So it is Christmas day and I have just arrived at my Grandparents home to celebrate as is the tradition and has been since I remember. One thing has changed since those days of old and that is my deconversion from fundamentalist christian into atheism. This is something that only my brother and his wife are aware of and even then we avoid the subject.
But I digress..
I had just arrived at my grandparents home and open the door to walk into the middle of a…

Keeping your Holidays healthy and free from destructive behavior.

Ever notice how upset people get around "The Holidays"...? So are many others and studies point to Christmas being the cause of many unnecessary stresses and unhealthy practices. Imaginary reasons for continuing the practice are leading some to reconsider this celebration of the new year as…

So, you wan't a war on Christmas...
(ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED IN SU NOMBRE EN VANO)
In the United States there is a widespread idea that there is an ongoing "war on Christmas" waged by atheists and in general, people who prefer a secular government in which every person has the same rights. As usual, this idea is proposed by the whiny religious right (mainly conservative Christians).
Sometimes they will…

I Like Christmas
I was sitting in my office today. I was alone as almost everyone else has taken off for the holiday. I had Pandora on Christmas music. I listen to a lot of Baroque, Renaissance, medieval, celtic and new age music anyhow and that was the flavor of my Christmas music. I also had Trans-Sibrian Railway and Manheim Steamroller. I really enjoyed it.
I like Church. I don't mean the religion. Or The Church.
I like the Christmas Service Happy Music…
