It is difficult to talk on the subject of religion without sounding, to some, like a fanatic. Some people I have encountered in life think I am as fanatical in my disbelief as a fundamentalist Christian might be in theirs. Some even say that my Atheism is a religion in itself, or at least that my fervour for atheism is on par…

There has been a lot of writing about the “Global Atheist Convention – The Rise Of Atheism” since its completion on Sunday afternoon, so most things that can be said have already been said. There were some good reports in the…

A very dear friend of mine was just sent away to a relative's house because he refused to babysit while his parents spent the worker's compensation check at a casino to nurse their habits. They then punished him, called him a godless creature (again), and sent him away to live with his brother, and might send him back to Poland to live with other relatives if he does not comply. He does not have internet or any other means to contact me or anyone else.
He's still technically a minor…

As some of you know here, my father passed a week ago. It brings to light a problem that we as non-believers face. Where do we turn for support in ceremonies? Christians can turn to a church, pastor or virtually any funeral home. When my wife and I got married, I asked that our wedding be non-religious and the lady agreed. During the ceremony she spoke of god a number of times. I had difficulty in not walking out on my own wedding. For the funeral ceremony I asked a neighbor whom is a pastor…

If you don't know what Fan Fiction is, read this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fan_fictionAnyone a Gilmore Girls fan? More specifically a Jess/Rory fan? If you are like those of us who think Literati (Jess & Rory) were definitely one of the most amazing TV ships ever, you probably would LOVE this fanfic by MissGoalie75 on fanfiction.net. It's called "Footnotes and Annotations" and she has taken a bunch of scenes from the show…

Today I was approached by a friend of mine who began a conversation with me with the statement, "I know you're an Atheist, but..." and proceeded to invite me to attend his youth group for a week. Now, knowing full well that he was the son of two missionaries, and is moving to Brazil this summer to learn Portuguese to do so, I expected this. The odd part was I didn't expect to feel as angry as I did with the conversation that followed. I kindly declined his offer, but he persisted, telling me it…

Xtard say's: "You are blinded to the truth. Blinding your mind to who you are serving". By this point i've had enough so i say: I disagree. I'm not blided but in fact more open minded and tollerant than most xtians. I demand the truth. Not cosmic fairy tales. If its real, i believe in it and the way i see it is: if you are too stupid to understand science then religion is right for you. EDUCATE THYSELF... You would think with that she would STFU and leave me alone. But nooooooo. I get this…

I often get email from what i like to call concerned xians. I sometime think they just want a debate or maybe to hear the "other side's" opinion about god. What-ever the case is i get a gang of this crap, all the time. (i love it) Some are complete assholes that i just block but most of them seem like their trying to do me a favor. They seem obligated to spread the word (YO) of god. It makes them feel good about themselves to be doing "gods work". (which is apparently trying to convert…

Our universe is a place of massive physical forces, and given the microscopic size of humanity in the scale of it all, it’s not surprising that we get caught up in the midst of these forces. And when we do, lives and infrastructure are lost on a relatively massive scale.
In 2004, the Indian Ocean Tsunami, caused by a massive earthquake off the west coast of Sumatra, causing massive devastation of homes and communities, and taking more than 230,000 lives in Indonesia, Sri Lanka,…

No, I am not newly atheist. I have been without god since 2005, when I fully realized I was brainwashed Catholic, and that it was indeed acceptable (and extremely plausible) to have absolutely no belief in god.
I am not of the conviction that I should try to sway anyone towards my opinions. That would be hypocritical of me seeing as how I absolutely detest Christianity and everything it stands for. That being said, I’m not going to elaborate on why I told the church to fuck off, as I may…

Once a year NYC holds a interfaith breakfast assembling leaders of all religions to gather and discuss ways to reach out and improve the community. Today a positive change happened. Michael Bloomberg welcomed the NYC Atheists to the Interfaith Breakfast for the first time. “I also want to welcome, for the first time, those who don’t profess a faith but who do love our city,”
Jane Everhart, Director of Communication of NYC Atheists noted that they felt welcomed. As the Mayor welcomed…

Dear Atheist,
Yes dear christian?
Do you think its a coincidence that...
of billions of stars and planets in the many galaxies, only earth has life, and abundance of it?
the sun is 400 times the size of the earth's moon, 400 times further away from earth than the moon, yet they look both proportionally the same size in our sky?
the sun lights the days nicely, while the moon glimmers in the night sweetly and the clouds bring forth rain to… Continue

Sometimes my Theist family makes me want to SCREAM!
I can feel that there is a divide forming in my relationships with them... but especially with my mother and brother. I guess my mother's "zealot" habits aren't REALLY her fault... she's an impressionable and passive woman who was brought up in the "Deep South Bible Belt." Still... an excuse for irrationality and harrassment of "Heretics" doesn't make the pain any less for me.
Recently, I was extremely shocked! I couldn't sleep…

From Atheist Climber blog
Logic. Reason. Rationality.
These are the 3 tools I use on a daily basis to make sense of the world. Without these tools, the world decays into a mess of suppositions and superstitions.
This means that whenever I look at the world, I have a lifetime's worth of knowledge by which I can make assessments on what is…

No, seriously! I was dead, just for a few minutes, but dead nonetheless. Long story short, on Sept. 25th an allergic reaction to a supposedly innocuous pill, caused my throat to close, shutting off my breathing and within minutes I was dead, literally.
But this rant is not about my ordeal from that night, which I can’t deny, was scary and surreal, and ultimately ended up with me waking up in the hospital, incredibly tired, with a sore throat and an extremely bruised chest, after 7…
