The Genesis Of The Resurrection Myth

Today is Easter Sunday. It is the Christian high holy day that has been set aside to celebrate the resurrection of their god-born savior, a tenet which is central to their faith. If there were no resurrection, the human sacrifice known as the crucifixion would be the end of a failed mission. The cycle of the death and…

“Census 2011, why mark No Religion?”

From Martin S Pribble

Australia is in a very privileged position this year. We have an opportunity to tell our government who we really are, what we treasure about our lives in Australia and what we would like to see in our future in this country. In a country that seems to be increasingly pandering to the Australian…

Let's begin this conversation

from Martin Pribble

While I may have a strange optimism for the future of humanity, and I think that the answer lies not in the division of the religious and the secular but in the joint efforts of all involved, I still see it as a troublesome proposition. As you may have seen in the…

A strange optimism

from Martin Pribble (March 19 2011)

A strange optimism has overcome me today. With all the disasters and unrest around the world right now, you might call me crazy, but hear me out and you may agree with me.

We tend to be a very self-centred and self-interested lot, us humans, and we will always try to look after our own immediate family and community, forsaking the rest of the world in favour of our own…

A fool hath said in his heart…

from Martin Pribble

1The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.2The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.

3
They are all gone aside,…

A weak argument for Atheism

from Martin S Pribble

"The invisible and the non-existent look very much alike." Delos Banning McKown

This quote has been appearing on Twitter from numerous accounts with the hashtags "#atheism #air" appended to the ending. This does one thing, and it's not in favour of the intended or original meaning or context of the quote. What it illustrates is that atheists… Continue

God 4.0 = Yahweh + Upgraded Followers

It is well known that Jews consider their god to be 1.0, Christians have god 2.0 now with Jesus, and Muslims think they are 3.0 since their doctrine acknowledges and addresses both prior religions.  So I got to wondering what 4.0 would look like.…

Atheists Need a Gang Sign

Atheists need a gang sign. Gangs, regardless of their business endeavors, have it right: a simple hand gesture that identifies members. No questions needed. Someone flashes you the sign they’re in the same club. I was in a fraternity as an undergraduate (I prefer to think of it as a charitable…

So much for the “inerrant” word of god.

And here you have it, yet another version of the inerrant word of god is on the works, because we (well, not we, they - but you know what I mean) need to make the bible make sense. Yes, that's exactly what I meant to say.

So, we are in for a new set of semantics and mythological animals brought to life by the editors that will probably change "unicorns" for "rhinos" - who knows! Maybe even Noah's Ark story will make sense this time, no?  Okay, sarcasm is not very easy to… Continue

Children With TS – Why I Became an Atheist

At one time, like most atheists I know, I was deeply religious. l will not mention what my religion was, but I will say it was based in orthodoxy.

God was on my mind from the moment I awoke in the morning until I slept at night. Mostly my thoughts were conjurations of scripture and lessons from the learned and I meditated on how I could make all this wisdom work in my every day life.

I think I studied more than others and prayed more than others and "believed" more than… Continue

You are all animals!

By Martin Pribble

It's undeniable; we are the single most advanced species of animal that we have identified to have ever existed on earth. Our social structures, brain power, our technologies, our innovations and our language is unrepeated in any other species on the planet.

We are self-aware, we are group aware, and we are of the imminence of death. We understand the basic needs for life, we understand the… Continue

Man vs Zombies

From Martin S Pribble's Blog

Firstly, Happy New Year to you all, and thanks for joining me again in 2011, for what I hope will be another successful year of blogging. As always, your feedback is appreciated. I'm going to start the year with what may seem to be quite a secular topic (i.e. non religious) within popular culture, but is actually much more.

Over the latter half of last year, I became somewhat…

Atheist Preachers

You know what really gets to me about religion? Preaching. When someone tells me that I'm going to Hell or simply attempts to insert a god into my life, I get annoyed. I have no problem with people choosing to believe in gods anymore than I have a problem with people believing in the Loch Ness Monster. It really does me no harm as long as they don't interject it into public policy or my life in any other fashion. I view it as, "If they are doing no harm, why bother?" But what's worse than…

Atheism is a natural outcome

In my recent interview with PZ Myers, when asked "Is atheism even something you think about, or is it merely part of having an informed knowledge of the universe and its workings?" he stated:

"Atheism is a natural conclusion of rational and scientific thinking."

Bingo! He hit the nail on the head, and… Continue

"Nietzsche and the Death of God" from Martin S Pribble

From Martin S Pribble

"God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean…

Where's Atheist Climber blog gone?

I realise this may be bending the rules somewhat, but I'm just writing this blog to let you know of some exciting thing happening over in my own little world, at Martin S Pribble. I decided it was time to come out of hiding under the monicker of Atheist Climber and go by my real name, for a couple of reasons. One, I am not afraid or ashamed of my atheism, nor am I afraid of what others might think of me or do to me because of my convictions. Two, It is my name, and if I want to be taken… Continue

'The "New Atheism" is not new at all' - from Martin S Pribble blog

from Martin S Pribble blog

I have too many things floating around my head right now to make a real point with this blog entry, so bear with me while I go on a cathartic rant.

I have recently seen a lot of criticisms about the "New Atheist Movement" saying it's disruptive and threatens to destroy society and all it holds dear. Some even say it will cause the end of the world. Most of the criticism is aimed at the so-called… Continue
