In Avoidance of Anger

Even at 60 years old, or perhaps I should say "in spite of 60 years of accumulated wisdom", I still have my moments of naïveté. I'm in the middle right now of working out one of those moments. This began weeks ago, as a result of Affleck vs Maher/Harris media vexations (thanks…

Disappointed

Religious imagery and the word of god have been in my face all of my life. Religious themes and symbols are everywhere. You see them in movies, television, social networks, schools, government buildings, bumper stickers, and fish-emblems on cars. Folks dress in religious clothing such as yarmulkes, turbans, robes, veils and burkas. All year long, there are religious holidays with religious music and even religious toys and candy for the kids. I am forced to…

Out Of The Randomness

One argument that I tackled in an earlier post was the fine tuning argument. I thought about it for a while, and I thought of one of my interests: Astronomy. I realized that there are thousands of galaxies and millions of stars and planets out there. So are we really "fine tuned"? Why us and not any one of the other millions of planets? Why haven't we found life on other planets? For those of you who do not know much about cosmology or astronomy there is a certain Goldilocks zone that a…

Prayer As An Answer

For hundreds of years it has been thought that this world is a result of God. God made everything we see, hear, touch, etc. but is this really the case? In science, once a theory has been proposed it is tested in a way to try to disprove it. If it cannot be disproved, then it works. Does God work?

In an earlier post i took some religious claims and how science has refuted them. In a way I am simply continuing… Continue

God's Will and Human Freedom

I am sure that most of you, weather you be Atheists of Theists have heard a whole lot about God's Will. This is thrown out like verbal diarrhea every time that someone dies or a natural disaster occurs. I have often questioned why people are so quick to say that a kid that gets caught in the crossfire of a gang shooting received a "gift" and that it was God's Will that she get shot and killed in a park. How is that a gift? What proof is there that she is in a better place? Who are you to…

Hell Houses

I want to step away from Philosophical debates and the sort for a second and talk about something that I think is truly a detriment to modern society. As the title of this post indicates the subject of my post is about these places called Hell Houses.

Now these places depict graphic scenes of what they consider sins. They depict the torment in hell that the sinful suffer. Some of you may be asking yourselves what makes these places different from other horror productions or stage… Continue

Augustine and His Confessions

Anyone who has read Augustine's Confessions will know his views on God. One view that I have been thinking about is how God is unchanging. One thing God must not have, to fit this description (according to Augustine), is emotions. This is something that many Christians and Catholics would agree with. However, there is a problem because in the Bible there is evidence of God having emotions. Take the First of the Ten Commandments:

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any… Continue

A Philosophical View

I enjoy looking at a variety of views on both theism and atheism. One argument that has intrigued me is the problem of evil which goes something like this:

Premise 1.) If God exists, then there would be no evil (immoral actions) in the world.

Premise 2.) There is (are) evil (immoral actions) in the world.

Conclusion: God does not exist.

This is a strong argument in favor of Atheism, however many would try to attack the first premise which we shall call (1). I have been… Continue

Atheism is a conclusion, not a belief.

This is some thing I wish more people would realize.

I Am Going To Read The Bible

I grew up in a family that went to church on holidays and said grace before meals, so you could say we weren't the strictest Christian family, we just worshipped when it was most convenient. From a early age I always questioned everything especially religion! It was always so frustrating when I asked a question and the only answer I ever seemed to get was, "That is the way the lord wants it." I always thought that was one bogus excuse of an answer.

One day I even asked my mom why God…

My response to a Muslim who sent me 27 tweets

Thank you for sending me 27 tweets trying to save my soul, which i don't have from hell which does not exist upon being judged by a god that isn't there. Wanting me to go to a heaven, which does not exist is a nice though. It still bewilders me what i would do with 72 virgins, and would they stay virgins afterwards? How long would it be before all 73 of us would be bored by each other? Eternity can be a very long time you know.…

Art Takes Time Square

I just signed up for a competition and art exhibit. It's called Art Takes Time Square. I post some art I created about the Christian mythos and the inherent evil therein. If you are into art and feel so inclined please swing by and sign up and click on collect to help me win the competition. The payoff is that art pointing out the evil of Christianity will be displayed on giant monitors in Times Square. Thanks for your support!…

Right without Religion

You do not need religion to be a morally or ethically "right" individual, let's put that out here in the open. This is for the communities that don't yet understand their religion is poisoning their world views. The people who publicly ridicule GLBT communities, the small towns where interracial couples are not accepted. Those special kinds of towns and cities where it is acceptable to fly the flag of the south, to openly support slavery, but if you support same-sex relations or…

Atheist faces jail after Facebook remark

An Indonesian civil servant who declared himself an atheist on Facebook was arrested and is now facing jail for blasphemy after being attacked by an angry mob, police said today.

Alexander An, 30, who wrote "God doesn't exist" on his Facebook page, was beaten by a mob of dozens on Wednesday in his hometown in Pulau Punjung, West Sumatra province.

"He is suspected of having blasphemed against Islam," local police chief Chairul Aziz told AFP.

"The man told police…

Faithless: Why You Don't Need To Disprove A God To Swear Off Religion.

There's no one quite as righteous as the one who believes himself to be part of the chosen people.

The Catholic Church's ongoing sex abuse scandal has lent itself to late-night jokes, investigative reports, disillusioned churchgoers, shameful clergy and lest we forget, an untold amount of shattered victims.

Though there were publicized prosecutions of priests as early as the 1960s, it wasn't until the Boston Globe's award-winning piece in 2002 highlighting the recent rash of…

"Happy Holidays" and American Christian Supremacism

That time of year is fast approaching when people begin to celebrate their various holidays. And, this year as usual, the Christian supremacists are whining as loud as they possibly can.

This year I’m friends with an older man on Facebook; he puts up a status saying, and I quote:

“I DO NOT CARE IF THIS DOES OFFEND SOMEONE…THIS IS WHAT I BELIEVE…I AM SICK AND TIRED OF EVERY YEAR WHEN CHRISTMAS COMES AROUND; THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO TAKE CHRIST OUT OF CHRISTMAS BECAUSE IT…

My thoughts on the late, great Christopher Hitchens

(NOTE: I initially posted this on my Facebook page - you know, I've got to keep the outspoken, "out of the closet" atheist thing going ;) I decided I wanted to share it here as well, with people whom I respect and admire, friends and acquaintances whom I know are of like mind.)

I want to take a moment to honor an amazing man whom I greatly admired. Today, Christopher Hitchens died at the age of 62. He died from pneumonia, a complication of the oesophageal cancer he had. He…
