High School Graduation: Attack of the Fundies - Public Prayer During Ceremony
I posted this yesterday on my Facebook page**; however I decided to post it here as well, in its entirety. I suspect that there are fellow atheists who find this to be an especially frustrating time because of the continuing fight over sanctioned prayer at high school graduations. At a minimum you may find yourself irritated and disgusted with this whole, ongoing, mess - such as the story of the Valedictorian in Pickens County, SC.
Or your…

On Calling people 'Trolls'
Don't get me wrong, there are some cases where it does need to be said, but I feel people are too quick to level accusations of trolldom. Furthermore, there is an assumption that because a troll thread continues, the troll was successful, but it doesn't work that way. If the people in the thread are having fun, or are getting fulfillment out of the dialog the thread generates, it's not a very successful troll. No one really fell for anything.
Outside of fair warning for others in…

'Atheism is for white people'

Losing my friends.
I post a lot of things about being atheist on Facebook; I realize this. I live in the South immersing me right in the center of all religious perversions. I have people delete me almost daily because of the things I post. None of this ever really bothered me because I live a moral, ethical life and if someone didn't want to be digital friends with me because of my beliefs; so be it.
It was different this time because it was one of my real life friends. Someone that knows…

Ending World Hunger Is Immoral
There are some meaningless things people just go along with. Let me point out something that should be rather obvious, but for some reason isn't.
Ending world hunger is a bad idea.
It seems even atheists have a hard time grasping this. Bimbos in beauty pageants are trained to parrot it back whenever they're asked what they wish for. Ask any child, or naive adult, and you'll get the same wish of ending world hunger, world peace or some other inane nonsense like…

Post Holiday Venting Post.
Ugh, so it's been an entire month of holiday garbage. From the passive aggressive nature of my family during their meal time prayers or my parents trying to shove their Catholic bullshit down my young son's throat.
I want to scream at them, but I don't. I keep the peace and don't respond to their faces how angry they make me. So here it is, every response I have kept in my head.
"No mom, I may not believe in Jesus but I still like celebration because it is time I get to spend…

Totally Braced to be Crucified for This....
I personally agree with T-foot on this.
Misogyny is a real problem. In a world where rape is still used by militaries to demoralize a country's people, how could this be denied? In a world where girls are kidnapped and forced into prostitution in droves, how could this be denied? In a world where women's struggle for equal pay and reproductive…

Why are only 25% of Atheist Women?
I have a 4 year old daughter and have a small battle on my hands to protect her from her mother's 'spirituality' and loose association with a church. I recently discovered that approximately only 25% of atheists are women.
Away from clichés about lonely middle aged women finding god, I've been pondering what are the other pitfalls that snare women in to the grips of organised religion or having independent spiritual faith?
Without wanting to brainwash my daughter myself, in…

I'm an immoral believer in nothing? Jerks.
Being treated as if I believe in nothing and considered immoral because I’m an atheist is frustrating, but it really shows me who’s paying attention, who’s arrogant, and who’s clueless about reality.
Piers Anthony wrote about a kind of atheist in “On A Pale Horse,” completely misrepresenting atheism if his logic were applied to the real world, though it made sense in his fictional world of magic and magical beings. I think this is a common mistake people make about atheism and…
