The Misconception of Doubt

I am a Skeptic. I give myself the label as proudly as one would if they were to call themselves a Saint or a Celebrity.

I doubt.

I will never stop doubting, either. Doubting has been given a rather bad rap over the course of history, but it is the stuff revolutions and emancipations are made of. Do I really need to elaborate on the ways in which doubt has been the savior of humans and humankind? Unfortunately, I think I do.

For starters, I think I shall rename… Continue

Americans Believe Religion is Losing Clout

Percentage saying influence of religion is slipping at 14-year high

by Lydia Saad

PRINCETON, NJ -- Two-thirds of U.S. adults today perceive that the influence of religion in American life is waning, while just 27% believe it is rising. This represents a sharp decline in the image of religion compared with only three years ago, when 50% thought its influence was on an upswing, and marks one of the weakest readings on the… Continue

The Experiment of belief; Fact or fiction

I wish to do an experiment where I live or anywhere who wishes to do the same.

25-50 questions that are either true or false. The only problem is, I can not think of any good questions. This is where you come in. What are some good questions that could be asked that is in the bible. If the question is true please provide where in the bible it says such or if it is not in the bible and is just tradition passed on through generation then state so. If it is false please say so as well.

I…

The Dawning of 2009

This will be my first blog on thinkatheist... and I'm not really sure what I want to write about, only that I want to write. I'm sitting in the office of one of my best friend's father and am thinking about the past year of my life (as it is the last day OF this year).

The year began in Pueblo, Colorado. I had moved away from Nashville the previous year (the end of May 2007) and was at the early stages of my transition from Christianity to Agnosticism/Atheism. Like Sam Harris, I… Continue

How about best atheist cake design? NO actual cake required.

Hey guys! I am planning to have a contest on who can make the best atheist cake :) I just need some input what you guys would think would be good rules.

Prizes would be a free item from either the clothing stores or amazon store.

Help me flesh some ideas :) For example you could make the cake out of anything you can think of. It has to say "Think Atheist" some place on the… Continue

Some reasons to be an atheist

Of course you don't become an atheist if you really believe in God. But if you logically have come to the conclusion that there is no god, should you still lie to yourself? I don't see what good it will do. On the contrary, a false belief in gods has several disadvantages. As an atheist:

1. You don't have to believe the preachers on funerals when they tell you that your loved ones where sinful. (I found it extremely bothersome on my… Continue

This will blow your mind!

I feel sorry for the religious, who are unfortunately unable to comprehend the inherent entertainment value of their religion.

Sweet baby jesus

Incredible, i finally find a networking site full of people who don't believe in magic!!!

Now to make this a real blog.

Christmas with the family this year was awkward. Jesus this, and God that, i dunno how much more i can keep my mouth shut. I hate hearing my parents talking about how they are depending on some imaginary thing to provide for them; I find it hard to bow my head at prayer anymore. i do it out of respect for my family but i hate to be made a hypocrite. When… Continue

Sadly, an Honest Creationist

by Richard Dawkins

The following article is from Free Inquiry magazine, Volume 21, Number 4.

Creation “scientists” have more need than most of us to parade their degrees and qualifications, but it pays to look closely at the institutions that awarded them and the subjects in which they were taken. Those vaunted Ph.D.s tend to be in subjects such as marine engineering or gas kinetics rather than in relevant disciplines like zoology or geology. And often they are earned not… Continue

What's with the 'Radical' Dude?

"Yes, I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought… Continue

Kiss Hank's Ass by James Huber

I thought this was hilarious, so I had to post it. It's such a great metaphor for Christianity.

-------------------

This morning there was a knock at my door. When I answered the door I found a well-groomed, nicely dressed couple. The man spoke first.

John: "Hi! I'm John, and this is Mary."

Mary: "Hi! We're here to invite you to come kiss Hank's ass with us."

Me: "Pardon me?! What are you talking about? Who's Hank, and why would I want to… Continue

Crazy Things About Bible God That Make You Think?

God judges us not by our character and deeds in life but solely by whether or not we worshiped him strongly enough.

Now think about what that says about your god.

He's more concerned with you being a fanboi than with how you lived your life.

I started losing my faith after a classmate asked the teacher what happened to non-Catholics after they died. The answer was simple "they go to hell." The fact that they might have been good people who devoted their lives to… Continue

Things Christians Should Know Before Talking to an Atheist

* Hitler was NOT an atheist.

* Morality is not a “believers only” state of conscience. Morality existed before the Bible was put together and translated, etc.

* Do NOT pray for us or indicate the notion to perform your ritualistic mumbo jumbo. There are millions of others that are ill and starving that might appreciate your spells of madness. These are the people that your so called “God” ignores or… Continue

“What If You’re Wrong?”

I remember telling a Christian about my disbelief in a god or ANY higher power. We used different philosophical scenarios to strengthen our own points of views during our debate/discussion. “Atheism vs. Christianity” debates are quite common in internet discussion forums, blogs and message boards. They are usually heated discussions and sometimes the name-calling begins. Once in a while a Christian will ask an atheist “What if you’re… Continue

Abolish the Federal Reserve?

On June 15, 2007, Ron Paul introduced HR 2755: Federal Reserve Abolition Act. There were no co-sponsors, no further action was taken, and the legislation was referred to the House Committee on Financial Services and effectively pigeonholed and ignored.

It's a bold and needed measure to "abolish the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal reserve banks, to repeal the Federal Reserve Act, and for other purposes."

The bill provides for management of… Continue
