It's almost Christmas...

It's almost Christmas. I think it's time to think what christmas is really about. I found this really contemplative video on youtube. Ok, maybe it's about Easter, but hey, it's the same actor.

This is a great candy recipe...I know it sounds strange using saltines, but give it a try, it's a great combination of Sweet and salty.

Things you will need:

Cookie sheet

Saltine crackers

1 cup or 2 sticks of butter (has to be REAL butter)

1 cup of sugar

1 package of chocolate morsels

2 cups of nuts (your choice)

preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Line cookie sheet with… Continue

Atheist author Philip Pullman 'disgusted' over claim Catholics blocked films

Sam Elliott, the American actor, has depressed Philip Pullman, the atheist author of the His Dark Materials trilogy, with his claim that a group of Roman Catholics managed to browbeat Hollywood producers into abandoning plans to film any more of his books.

"It's disgusting, but only the sort of behaviour I expect of these people," the best-selling author says of the campaign Catholics in America waged against The Golden Compass, the… Continue

muslims Threaten To Kill Priest Over Swiss Minaret Vote...

Slap to religious freedom in Switzerland leads to threat over church bell tower in Turkey.

ISTANBUL, December 15 (CDN) — In response to a Swiss vote banning the construction of new mosque minarets, a group of Muslims this month went into a church building in eastern Turkey and threatened to kill a priest unless he tore down its bell tower, according to an advocacy group.

I came across these two obituaries in the local newspaper today:

"Uncle Jack" age 94, traveled many miles during his career and lifetime. On December 8, 2009 he took his final "road trip" and is now in heaven playing baseball with his friends.

"Auntie Gay Nell" moved into a new home and embarked on a new adventure December 7, 2009. She was joyfully received there by her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ and her mother and father.

I can't believe I actually read the obituaries, (I… Continue

I'm on break from work and I"m just irritated that I didn't tell my dentist that I should look at my insurance manual first to find out there is a six month waiting period for a crown before I allowed him to drill my tooth for a crown. Now to pay for it myself. I'm just glad I have a credit card so I can pay a little off each month. My partner needs wisdom teeth extraction and his insurance won't cover that. Grrr...I"m just annoyed.

This program aired last night in Australia on the ABC. Andrew Denton is a great interviewer and asks some quite probing questions of Richard Dawkins. I highly suggest you watch the video. Unfortunately I couldn't work out how to embed it here.

Scary YouTube Messages

So first off, apparently a group of Internet Christians have been trying to get people on YouTube to... well what they're trying to do is actually my first question. I don't know what their intent is. Some of my vidder friends (we all are the vidding community because we all make fanvideos - music videos using clips from our favorite movies and TV shows) said they had received similar messages in the past. I talk to many of these vidder friends of mine on twitter, so to share my extreme… Continue

An article from the Sydney Morning Herald by LESLIE CANNOLD

A reader asks, "Can you be good without God?" The question arose when a Christian friend's reasons for doing charitable works ("impacting someone's life with a kind, inspired gesture from God") made her feel her own reasons for undertaking the same activities (that she both enjoyed them and… Continue

Tony Abbott wants students to read the bible.

This article is from the breakfast show called "Sunrise" in Australia. It's the most popular breakfast show in the nation. The host of the show, David Koch is generally a fairly level headed guy, but his views on religion are obviously coming from a strong Christian background.

This article was related to a debate between a Christian Minister and an…

"Why did God take all the celebs in 2009? Celebs are supposed to be immune to death"

Somebody ACTUALLY said this on a messageboard. I didn't take it as sarcasm I read it as some religious nut really believing this.

Because we all KNOW that if you star in a movie, put a ball through a hoop/field goal or make a few hit records "GOD" will spare you from death. If you work a regular 9 to 5 you're just shit out luck.

P.S. My FAVORITE silly ass supersition is "Celebs die in 3's"

Found this little gem via stumble upon: The True Origin of Christmas

Every year after Thanksgiving, most people’s thoughts turn to Christmas. It is the time when professing Christians are supposed to focus on Jesus Christ. After all, it is the “Christ-mass” season!

Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, holly wreaths, decorated trees, mistletoe, season’s greetings, seasonal music, “chestnuts roasting on an open fire” and Santa Claus are all associated with this holiday. These all bring warm feelings to those… Continue

How I became an atheist

There seems to be some controversy among non-believers as to the best way to refer to themselves. There are atheists, agnostics, free-thinkers, humanists, brights, godless, etc. Personally, I have no problem with any of these terms. It is not for me to decide how other people should identify themselves.

Like everyone else, though, I do have a term which I prefer over the others, and that term is "atheist". For me, the choice to use this term happened in a single week, and the… Continue
