Why God is not great: Unapologetic atheism

I was watching a Christopher Hitchens video recently, a debate he had with an atheist-turned-Christian.

This is really my first time watching Hitchens. I’ve heard about how great he is, and now I can highly recommend his videos.

He has his own distinct style, and comes across very strong. I wouldn’t have been able to handle him in the first months of my deconversion.

I couldn’t bear to pick up a book called God is Not Great, or one that called God a ‘delusion’ or…

Short Poem

I wrote this poem few days ago.. thought it might fit in here quite well, would like to hear your opinion about it. And if there are any mistakes in it, please tell me.

So this is your family?

Even though you had no choice

You live a life of pure acceptance

Never asking the so called wrong question

Haven't you heard about the revolution?

Haven't you learned from watching the…

Religion: Paving Over the Narrative Trench.

There is a phenomenon found in (but not limited to) computer-generated special effects, known as the Uncanny Valley. The term refers to the way our emotional response to a thing aping human form or behaviour abruptly nosedives when mimickry becomes almost, but not quite, perfect, only recovering when we are presented with something indistinguishable from a genuine human being. An oft-cited example is that audiences will laugh along with the cartoony…

Religious Zealots May Be Harmful To Your Health

One of the things that is bad about zealots of religious belief, which those who are so 'ensconced' cannot grasp, is that they are very abusive to impose their beliefs in an omnipotent "God" on other people!

Many of the senseless laws we are subjected to are derived from the ancient dark-ages coffers of religious zealots who tend to think that the insane concoctions they believe, should be enforced on…

Thank you to all the Veterans out there.

As a former service member I wish to extend my thanks to all military members. Both current and retired.

Whether you are for a particular conflict or against it the troops are not the one to take your anger out on.

Florida Man's Prison Sentence Voided Over Religion

A Florida man's 30-year prison sentence for sexual battery has been tossed by an appeals court that ruled a judge injected his religious views in the case.

The Florida Times-Union reported Friday that the 1st District Court of Appeal ordered a new sentencing hearing for Percy Edgardo Torres, 44, of Jacksonville. His 2011 conviction still stands.

The appeals court found that Circuit…

How does Forced Faith become Real/Valid Faith?

Look around the world and notice the pressure put on people to just put faith into whatever the local belief system happens to be. This is especially true (currently) in Middle-East Muslim culture, so I'm most interested in hearing back from them, in particular.

It's not just Muslims who put peer pressure on their own society to practice faith, as almost all religions are a product of local peer pressure. So my question still applies (to various degrees) to every religion.

I…

Bus Driver Fired After Forcing Prayer on Students

A bus driver for the Burnsville school district was fired last week for leading kids in Christian prayers on his bus, even after he was warned to stop — a move he considers a violation of his freedom of speech.

George Nathaniel, 49, of Richfield, who is also a pastor for a…

FREE WILL vs Unlucky Geography of Birth

Christians love to quote the “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" quote that Jeebus rather conceitedly threw out there.  Pride, much, Jeebus?  ANYWAZE, it's always bothered me that ONLY Jeebus followers are allowed into Heaven.  That's just an accident of birth, isn't it?  Free will is involved?

The little Native American Indian girl who lived between 47 and 59 BC, did SHE have a choice to…

I must admit, I'm not a big fan of Richard Dawkins or Steve Pinker for that matter. They're quite ethnocentric. As a feminist and someone who veers more towards the left, I can't stand their Darwinian style elitism. I'm looking for more equitable Athiest or Agnostic thinkers, if anyone could recommend anything please inbox or comment. I'm new to this site so go easy on me. Also any texts that criticize main theological issues in Islam would be great. Documentaries are also welcome. If you're…

Do atheists believe in spirituality? Part 2

I have decided, logically, and because it is easier, to address one issue in each part of this blog

Firstly, one problem that comes up in discussing spirituality, and came up in the comments, was the terminology and its confusion or association with religious or theist ideology.

As may be obvious the words ‘spiritual’ and ‘spirituality’ are derived from the word ‘spirit’. Many definitions of the term 'spirit' given in Encarta are connected to humans in a normal context: life…

Christian Parents Receive Massive Sentence for the Starving and Freezing Death of Their Adopted Daughter

From the article:

"...Carri and Larry Williams. The Washington state couple had nine children — seven biological ones, plus two adopted from Ethiopia. Now there are eight; in 2011, adopted Hana Grace-Rose Williams, 13, died of starvation and hypothermia — the result of the parents’ sustained reign of terror that was inspired by a devoutly Christian book on…

Do atheists believe in spirituality?

I would like to hear people's views on the topic of spirituality. Some starting viewpoints to discuss and develop further. The first question I would ask is: is it possible to be an atheist and believe in some form of spirituality, however defined?

How I became an atheist. ( From an ex-muslims perspective)

To start off as a child I was born and raised in muslim house hold , I believed it and never questioned it . I remember as a toddler that my dad used to take me to the masjid with him and he taught me how to pray to allah. I also used to see my mom wearing her veil and reading the koran especially during Friday and ramadan. Although my mom doesn't like to wear the hijab she wears tank tops and tight…

Happy Atheist

I'm so glad I found this web site!  I feel more grounder knowing I'm accepted because of my way thinking by a group that is way ahead of the game of life.  I have a lot of opinions and no one to talk to about religion or lack there of.     I read a book named "And man created God".  After reading it I was even more sure there is no god.  I think the bible is a fairy tale written to make people feel guilty about everything and everything.  Any suggestions on other books to read?

Thanks…

The struggle against religion, a common human problem!

Dear present!

I address to atheists, but not to spies from enemy camp or to any easy riders swindlers.

Fondly to think that the religion sometime capitulates.

Many governors - if not all - with it are tied.

And we know that they need to govern and profit only.

There is a danger that they once - when the suitable moment will be presented - can use scientific achievements to make of all the others cattle. Therefore, I urge scientists to be attentive when governors give…
