The first part of my life was a little dysfunctional. Without getting into too much detail, I was raised non-religious and My parents were divorced by the time I was four. My parents didn't necessarily reject God, they just didn't acknowledge him. I was too young to know the difference but looking back on it, I realize that I was happy and carefree; more-so than when I was a Christian. My mom found religion when I was in about fourth grade. I didn't really think anything of it, I just went…

Christian “Logic” and “Morality”

Just when I thought I’d heard it all, one of the Christies drops this little gem on me. In discussing the super happy fun times associated with Lot and his daughters, I got this reply:

“Lot wasn't a Xian because Christ wasn't born yet. Therefore, not Xian morality.”

So, it would seem that she is claiming that anything that happened before the birth of Christ cannot be associated with the moral structure of their religion. This one is new to me.

I’d love…

keep up the momentum!

for those that are finally in the streets

keep up the momentum!

for those that have come to the conclusion that something must be done to stop the greed that is strangling the countries we live in

keep up the momentum!

for those that no longer believe the lies told to us by our governments

keep up the momentum!

for those that no longer have a job, healthcare, or even a home, but somehow throw their fists up in the direction of the 1% in the US day…

Grid computing

Hi all,

I wanted to put up a post about grid or distributed computing. If there is a problem which can be solved by a computer, that's great. What happens when it would take a single computer a thousand years to compute the solution? The answer is to break the problem down into as many small pieces as possible and to compute them all at the same time! Now the problem for someone with a large problem set is no longer a lack of time to compute their final result, but a lack of…

The Time I Made a Lady do a Hale Mary

A few friends and I went to Six Flags in Arlington, Texas–near Dallas. If you've ever been to a theme park, then you know that the lines for everything are ridiculously long. You also know that cripple people get in front of the line because everyone feels uncomfortable bitching about standing in line for a long time when there's a cripple around. Right now, you're probably forming thoughts in your head given that introduction and the title, and you think I'm that asshole that pretends to be…

Atheists, theists, and gnostics, oh my! - Yet another way to describe your view!

Yes I know and please forgive me all because I know this is such a reoccurring post that people"palin" whenever they see the topic. However, I think having lots of different ways to look at and consider these words is important and enables people to take the discussion to more understandable levels. I very much enjoyed the following article that does just that. It is a short, clear and very user-friendly in terms of the way it conveys its points.

I feel myself...

...becoming one of those "bitter atheists."

Not bitter because I don't have god, not bitter because I don't have a church community, not bitter because this entire sentence has had shit for grammar--

I am pissed off at the screaming morons who squabble like children over who has the better imaginary friend. I am pissed off at the smug declarations that I have a faith. I am pissed off at the assumptions, the accusations and the fact that I am expected to respect religion when…

Pocatello Idaho Atheists

Just created a Facebook group for Atheists in SE Idaho. There are several groups in surrounding areas but the closest is 50 miles away which makes a 100 mile trip to attend any functions.  I know there are others in the Pocatello area so I'm shaking the tree. Seemed like a productive way to spend a Sunday morning.

FU Albert Pujols!

Three homers in the World Series. It must be god. He must favor Pujols over the 7 million children under the age of five who died last year.

This is why I don't get into arguments on the historical or "factual" nature of the bible. Who gives a shit.

So this is to Pujols and Polamalu and all other of the "professional" athletes who think their god somehow favors them over any other being…

A teacher and mentor of mine who was an agnostic.

Before I begin, this guy I've known my whole life sense I was a kid and he a teacher of English literature. He and I and few other friends show up at a restaurant and play hours of chess on saturdays. Now a few years back he told me that he was an Agnostic but went back to being religious. He never told me why he went back, maybe he did and I just can't remember, but something must have happend to him a long time ago that made him go back and that his choice. The guy has a good sense of…

'Nose Hitting' Chip Bags - a nasal euphoria

OK, I admit I have a few odd habits I give myself the pleasure to delight in. One of which is the yearning to "nose hit" (a 70's hippy term) a just opened virgin bag of chips; preferably sour cream, doritos, or barbecue flavor Lays. I pull the plastic seal open only about two inches or so, cram my nose in, and immediately inhale deeply. So far I have avoided actually sucking a chip up my nose so it is quite exhilarating for just a moment.

Anyone else experience similar diseases of…

REALLLYYY???

"Okay, I don't pretend to be as intelligent as you guys — you're obviously very well read.  But I read the Bible, and nothing you say can convince me that God does not exist.  I feel him in my heart, and you can feel him too, if you'll just ask him into your life.  "For God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son into the world, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish from the earth." John 3:16."

someone needs to do a god damn experiment relating the "feeling of…

My girlfriend and i are going through very stressful situation, part of which involves our religious viewpoints (which of course are atheist). I just wanted you guys to know that its nice to be able to have a place to come where i can be myself, and receive moral support from like minded individuals. So, again, Thanks!
