Stardust

DustBuster2a What is the nature of interstellar dust? How does it affect the starlight that passes through it? What can be done to locate and catalog the numerous, small, tenuous dust clouds that populate our galaxy at the higher latitudes? Is it possible to somehow vacuum under my refrigerator without moving the damn…

Atheist Group to Give Invocation at City Council Meeting in Huntsville, Alabama

I'm sure they will get hate mail, but it sounds like this city council wants to do the right thing.

In an email between the invocation coordinator and the atheist leader, the coordinator says, "We recognize that your drawing from the Free Thought Tradition will mean there will be no references to God, but in your own words, 'will offer some inspiration, ethical principles/norms, challenges for civic virtue, wisdom, and/or something else that will help those present…

What do you do with the anger?

My family and I left Christianity for 4 years ago.  The main reason was/is the hatred being constantly on display at our church.  This hatred wasn't visible to us before Barack Obama was President, but now it's evident in so many other areas besides politics.

My wife and kids are doing well as Atheists.  I, on the other hand, am probably not.  I find myself constantly dealing with anger issues.

I'm angry that my family had to go through this rejection by the people we…

Invictus

Invictus

BY WILLIAM ERNEST HENLEY

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
      For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of…

Death With Dignity -the Gillian Bennett story.

Deadatnoon.com is a website created by Gillian Bennett, 84, diagnosed with dementia (Alzheimer's) three years ago. Her disposition about choosing the right time to terminate is both admirable and sobering. I truly hope her blog can be an inspiration to others who feel it important to die with a morsel of dignity.

U.S. Air Force Does Away With Enlistment Oath Option.

Until October 30 of last year there was an option to omit the words "so help me God" from the enlistment oath required by recruits/re-enlisting veterans of the USAF. Now they have dropped this option and made it statutory to pay homage to a god during enlistment/re-enlistment.

A Bible Club won't offend anyone!

On having a Bible Club at our High School.

"We've got all kinds of religions that want a bible club! We're very diverse! We've got Methodists, Pentecostals, Baptists, Catholics... and more I am probably missing! You'll find all those religions in the club."

That was the argument supporting the club against anyone who might think we're only serving one religion. The thing that get's my goat was that he didn't say that as an excuse or alternate way to see diversity, the guy…
