The First of Many Headaches...

I attend a small, local college in Northwest Florida, right along the southern part of the Bible Belt.

The college isn't very big, and just recently upgraded from a simple community college to a full four-year college. Many of us call it 13th grade, and it makes for a very tight-nit feeling with many of the students and professors, which is nice.

I'm so proud...

So, I work with this girl, lets say her name is Samantha. Samantha grew up Mormon. *i know you are rolling your eyes, cause i kinda did too...*

So what you say. who cares about this Samantha?

I know i wouldn't normally, but Samantha had the courage to escape.

Samantha is 18, so newly 18 that shes been 18 for less than 2 months.

Really Huge Survey on Non-religious Americans

Wouldn't you know it. I search for a comprehensive survey on religion, from which to extract freethinker-related stats. I find a big one (35,000+ interviews) from Pew and post the relevant information.

Then, without even trying, I find a BIGGER survey targeted exactly where I wanted it: at the American non-religious (a group I'm calling "freethinkers"). This newer survey, from Trinity College, sampled 54,461 adults, then zeroed in on the 7,407 non-religious (called, "Nones")… Continue

Crocoduck as a transitional fossil?

Having watched Kirk Cameron's crocoduck discourse, I got to wondering if this guy really thinks that that is what a transitional fossil is, an intermediate species between ducks and crocodiles, bulls and frogs, etc.. Surely, this guy can't be that stupid, can he? It is utterly unfathomable that any half wit could even think that such was even possible. Church employee says she lost job once tithing dipped

Don't Believe, Think Instead

One of the things that make me cringe is when I read something from a scientist, academician, teacher, or reporter and they use a form of belief instead of a form of think.

A reporter might include in a sentence: "Scientists believe that..." or "It is the belief of historians..."

Someone giving a lecture might say: "It is believed by people in the field..." or "We currently believe that..."

WHY INSURANCE COMPANIES GET SUED. IT AIN'T FRIVOLOUS KIDDIES...

With all the insurance health care debate going on, I came across this article out of Dallas. Having at one time been an insurance agent, and having had business and personal dealings with that industry, I’m NOT A FAN OF IT.
