Idk what to say lol
So I work at a bank. And at this bank there are well, rules and regulations and policies etc. And obviously one rule is be courteous to the customers. Easy enough for me I'm a nice person. Well I helped a lady today and after I finished her transaction she commented on my hair. I style my hair in a faux-hawk. She had said "I'm glad my children never did anything crazy like that. They read their bible everyday and don't have any tattoos either," and pointed at my hair "they follow the…

Crisis of Faith at 100! Looking for Help.
I am currently employed at an assisted living center. One of our residents, who is 100 has recently been asking me a lot of questions regarding the bible and God in general.
Let me first point out that none of the residents know that I am an atheist (they don't need to know). We usually have quite a few religious activities within a week (bible studies, sermons from local preachers, etc). I never denounce any of their messages or deride their faith (I could, but what good…

Looking Out At the Stars
A piece of my thoughts i got from looking outside one starry night.
What about the unseen stars? I'm sure they try just as hard, to shine as bright as they can. For me to stop living my ignorant life and admire them. So bright they are. So far yet so close to touching them as if you could lift your hand and leave this life behind, to explore something totally different, but the only place i leave is my mind. The stars give us the honor of gazing upon them…

Ah, crap, there she goes...
Staying with my religious right-wing aunt has been a wonderful exercise in self-control and bottling up emotions, let me tell you. But my education is worth it.
However, since she is also a nurse, she is technically also a biologist, as she works in the lab, and while I would usually trust her with scientific information, sometimes it has the feel of a lecture regarding how God fits into the picture.
She's given me a book now, called "The Language of God" by…

Have you missed any past episodes of Ardent Atheist? Dave Foley, Tim Minchin, Richard Dawkins Neil deGrasse Tyson and more!
Ardent Atheists Emery Emery and Heather Henderson talk with comedians, actors and friends about atheism, deism and the effects of religion on us all. Guests of the show are a mix of atheists, agnostics, deists, scientists, humanists and the occasional god-loving, scripture-quoting crusader. Discussions are deeply impassioned, mostly respectful and always funny.
Ep 027 - Carlos Alazraqui Lost His Wife When Fred Stoller And Brought John Over.…

Ohio atheists say they’re congratulated for church billboard with line, ‘There is no God’
An amusing article from the Washington Post:

(Mansfield News Journal, Jason J. Molyet/Associated Press) - Motorists pass a billboard that reads “There is no God” on US 30 near SR 42 in Mansfield, Ohio, Monday, Aug. 29, 2011. An Ohio atheist…

Live a day as an atheist.
I got the idea for this from my religious friends. After seeing them go to hospital, get treatment for their new born child who was sick, and then thank the prayers of their friends instead of the doctors and medicine research that made it possible to save his life.
So i made this list, feel free to add anything to it you want.
Live a day as an atheist
Try it out, just live one day as an atheist. You can always repent
1. Listen to other people and be…

Julian Assange should be LOCKED UP! ASAP!
I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but now he has allowed the leakage of names and information of informants which is over the top. It is his responsibility to protect their information, and in not doing so, he has put the lives of informants in sure jeopardy and jeopardized future intelligence gathering against suspected terrorists. There is no question now, it is time to prosecute…

Ignorance is bliss
Sometimes I wish I didn't know so much about all the reasons god doesn't matter. Just join the masses and agree.
My friend said if he and I ever had a falling out, it would be because of my atheism. Every time it comes up, he always tells me I'm not an atheist, as if it's something impossible to be. It's not that I believe god doesn't exist, I just don't think he matters if he does exist. It's like santa. Santa could exist, he could circle the world at the incredible speed…

absolutely nothing stops the pipeline.
it penetrates all ways of life
all borders, all villages & towns---
the pipeline kills everything in its path if it dare stand in the way
of its progress---
with black gold funneling back to the
land of the free
who eagerly seeks to waste
every last drop that is left on the globe
here,
within the borders of the US &
nowhere else,

the supposed wrath of the coming storm brings with it the
dim sunlight of insanity---
idiots
bumbling,
scrambling & tripping over themselves
as if it was all going to
end
(you see, inside they want it to so very badly that it screams at the rest of us a
loud call upon themselves for mass suicide, because they want to join whatever
creator or next life that they think exists, which they believe in so much,

Abandoning Atheism
What you thought I was leaving my local & reason behind for some fiction based ideology, Oh fuck no, no, no I'd never, how could I, I'd be truly betraying 4 billion years of evolutionary success.
I am only 22 years young, yet I feel I have the knowledge of an elder, tho I exert myself trying to utilize my strengths in science to my peers for their own benefit, they remain ignorant, how could my generation ones who exploit technology every second they breathe be so…

Anti-Suicide Reasoning
During the reading of some of my Sociological articles (most specifically those authored by Emile Durkheim), I began thinking of a moral quandary. What is a valid reason (as atheists) to prevent suicide?
Christians believe in some type of hell or another; thus eternal torture. Pagans believe in reincarnation; thus the return to the state the suicidal is attempting to leave.
What compelling reason do Atheists give to the suicidal to prevent this act? Do we believe there is…

How do you tell the person your dating that your a Agnostic/Atheist?
Hello everyone,
I just joined Think Atheist and have finally got the courage to stand for my own beliefs.
But my girlfriend believes in God and is a devout Catholic. She once told me that she
didn't know how she could have a relationship with me if I didn't believe [in god]. So...
I don't know what to tell her, and I don't want to lie to her anymore. Any suggestions?

American Theocracy Revisited
From an Op-Ed in the New York times, author Ross Douthat suggests that the media should make every effort to question the candidates' religious beliefs and how they would affect their policy decisions.
When candidates wear their religion on their sleeve, especially, the press has every right to ask how that faith relates to their political agenda.
Michele Bachmann avoids questions about her views on LGBT rights every chance she gets, yet invokes the…
