I'm a blind man;
I can not see.
The floor is falling from underneath me;
Falling into unbelief.
Darkness floods this soul of mine,
Till no light can I find.
Close my eyes to the truth--
No to evidence,
Reason is cruel,
Blinded eyes this is the rule.
I pray to god yet he is silent.
I fear without him the world is violent
The angels … Continue

There is a new book out by author S.E. Cupp called Losing Our Religion: The Liberal Media's Attack on Christianity. The title of the book pretty much says it all - Ms. Cupp (What if her first name was Debbie and she didn't have a middle name - would that make her D. Cupp? Sorry, I had to ask) believes that the liberals are attacking Christianity.
I think we all know that Conservatives are much more likely to flaunt their religious beliefs than a Liberal might be. While you might think… Continue

Today's Atheist Meme of the Day. Pass this on; or don't; or edit it as you see fit; or make up your own. Enjoy!
Atheists care about emotion, passion, intuition, and irrational impulse. We're not Vulcans, and we don't think logic and evidence are the only things that matter. We simply think that logic and evidence are the best tools we have for figuring out the real, non-subjective world. Including whether or not God exists. Pass it on: if we say it enough times to enough people, it… Continue

I wrote recently about the idea of a "Re-Enlightenment
" and about moving forward toward a world which was not controlled by mythology, dogma, and religious doctrine. In a rather flippant final paragraph I wrote:…

That nothing exists in the clouds
Because we’re dying, killing ourselves
Waiting for some help
And if any god was real
Innocent people wouldn’t be killed
Forgotten and sealed
Mothers wouldn’t die
Fathers wouldn’t have to work to hide
Racism wouldn’t be allowed
Fire and brimstone
Door ripped and closed for love
And as evil as they say I am
I would actually give a damn
There would never be rape
Kids that aren’t safe

Okay let me rephrase the question so that maybe someone can understand how I hear it better: Continue
"Should black people be allowed to marry?"
"Should people with blond hair be allowed to marry?"
"Should Christians be allowed to marry?"
This is what I'm hearing and it's not right - not right at all! It should not even be a discussion - It's silly to the even ask; yet, it seems to be one of the top discussions of all time.
We Americans have a…

After a day of training at Fort Eustis, Smith and other trainees were normally released to have personal time, but on May 13, Smith and dozens of others were "required" to march in formation to a concert headlined by an evangelical Christian rock band.
"No option was presented to us off the bat," Smith told Truthout about the required concert.…

I'm going to play the part of a hypocrite, which is something that all humans are form time to time, but from my last blog "Is there a God?" you could get this Idea that I am very passive when it comes to my being Atheist and not very vocal and that is true to some extent. If you ask I won't lie, I would never lie about my beliefs unless you actually had a gun to my head - I'm not a cowered, but I love myself too much to wear a target on my forehead so to speak.
I'm not the… Continue

I've heard many answers to this question and the best one I have ever heard was a simple and honest: "I don't know." This is the most humble answer anyone can have to this kind of question and tells a lot about a person religious or not, any definite answer to this question would be, to me, very arrogant and I can't stand arrogance. Arrogance drives me nuts, it's the biggest malfunction of man-kind and possibly our greatest sin, however since you asked, your probably wanting a better and more… Continue

i have spent most of today laying in bed pondering and listening to some "symphony of science" youtube videos.
i am so happy and peaceful today, contemplating my insignificant existence in our vast and beautiful universe.
i am both humbled and proud to know that i have the cosmos within me, just as all life does.
there is so much to be learned about our universe, i am so happy to learn and know more.
this comes to my pondering... what do you… Continue

A host of protection acts for whistle blowers have been passed in the US for decades, but as you might suspect they are so confusing, riddled with arcane loopholes and varying from state to state that the whistle blowers may have no protection at all. This confusion is deliberate in order to discourage them. When one exposes government crimes he or she will often face prision and/or loss of job--as in the case of Valerie Plame.

Recently I keep Stumbling Upon
this graphic about how Christians fucked everything up for us. I mean, we could be flying to work by now if it wasn't for those delusional fools! As an Atheist I like to think that I am a rational person who weighs evidence & is fair & even handed in my denial of a god.
Unfortunately, as much as I love the sentiment of the graph, I just can't get behind such a spurious claim. How on earth… Continue

Developing countries with low literacy rates and poor education systems are bastardising moderate beliefs resulting in horrific and widespread crimes against humanity.
This post is going to read as part history lesson, part reminder about why religious groups need to stop punting their own agendas in African countries, regardless of their intentions.
I have always felt that notions of gods needed to be eradicated from Africa, but seeing an article by Ken Ham entitled… Continue

I have often wondered why it is that we are seeing an uprising of voices in the world of skeptical inquiry and atheism in the mainstreams of the world. And I wonder why it is that I am so heavily entrenched in this to feel it is important in my life to put so much effort into this blog at this point in time. Maybe I'm a little slow on the uptake, but it seems to me… Continue

is a sad piece about reliance on a made up faith.Go Back

I am happily married with two kids, ages seven and nine. I have always lived in Alabama. My hometown is located in south central Alabama, deep in the bible belt. Now that that is out of the way...
