I originally intended to lead with a discussion of the "spanking sticks" that are offered for sale and even for free on various xtian websites. The Idea is that the correct (xtian) way to encourage positive behavior from children is to use corporal punishment. Admittedly, some of the web sites were neo-nazi's or extreme fundamentalist but if they think it is a good idea then it must be. Specifically, without physical punishment children will grow into vicious monsters. Godless heathens that… Continue
Not My God is about the experiences of atheists in America because the U.S. is in the unique position of being a staunchly religious nation in the developed world. It’s part of what makes America America: having a gun in one hand and a bible in the other. As a result, atheists have it a lot harder here than in, say, France or Japan.
I recently spoke with a Turkish man who told me that, contrary to what I thought, it was easier to be an atheist in Istanbul than in the U.S! I still… Continue
Cameron Todd Willingham has been executed for Arson that resulted in the death of three of his little girls. In a review of the evidence from the fire, an independent expert claims that there is no reason to call this fire an arson. His statements about the Texas State Fire Marshall were more acute, The state fire marshal on the case, Beyler concluded in his report, had "limited understanding" of fire science. The fire marshal "seems to be wholly without any realistic understanding of fires…Continue
It saddens me to inform the community of Think Atheist of the passing of my beloved John, yesterday.
He truly enjoyed this site and all of it's members. He proudly wore his Think Atheist bracelet wherever he went. He died knowing he was loved and that he was not alone in his philosophies.
Live long, live brave and always question!
Thank you,
Carmela Ramos

Anyone who has spent more than a few seconds on my site knows where I stand on religion. My anti-theist stance is quite clearly proclaimed everywhere here, from the scarlet A and Random Evil Scripture block to the various books I've read, even those of faith have no trouble figuring out my views.
I have my email address easily accessible in the footer, available for anyone to contact me if desired, and I do… Continue
Many Religious communities, mostly in the Christian sect, slowly deny the existance of hell. Mostly because its rubbish for the idea of it being in the center of the earth as we can easily determine what is there with current knowledge. But, we've flown planes, we've scouted the skies, no heaven, why does it still exist?
From the bible Hell is described in such detail, in essense scaring the reader into believing that it exists,… Continue
So, U.S. right-wing Republicans (many of them god loving, including that nut job Sarah Palin)want to attack our National Heath Service? Well if you send one of our boys to the hospital I’ll be sending one of yours to the morgue! Here are my arguments against those who want to attack the NHS, but first a brief…Continue
I think the most insulting accusation a person could make against me would be to say that I'm easily influenced. At a young age, I had a pretty keen sense of self-awareness that most of my peers seemed to lack. Justice and truth were important precepts to me, though I wouldn't have been able to articulate it in that way early in my life.
This sense of self-awareness has forced me to be honest with myself about my own motives; it became extremely important for me to ask questions and… Continue
The story that started this was satire. It caught me and others off-guard and now I'm red faced. My apologies to the fake characters in this story whom were disparaged. #$#&%@#$%!
Normally when I think of kids playing on steel pipe shaped into unique structures, I think, “Damn spoiled kids! I only got a rectangular set of monkey bars to fall off of!” All kids should be subject to the same boredom and perils as me… Continue
A recent post by Think Atheist member Aline Carriere titled “Have You Been Saved?” caught my attention while flying over Tulsa, Oklahoma. (That’s right, Delta has Internet on cross country flights now! I’m so happy!) I didn’t agree with everything Aline had to say, but that’s alright. We atheists are allowed to disagree without having to form new “denominations”. Her post tells a story about an… Continue
I don't know if anyone else engages the Christian propagandists on YouTube, but I've found it to be terribly entertaining - and great debating practice to boot. This is a conversation that started on some Christian chick's (I was invited) channel where I and a few other Atheists were pummeling her logic, when this guy invited me to come to his… Continue
As you may know, right-wing talk show hosts have been bringing race-based fear mongering into the mainstream, but FOX's Glenn Beck just took it to another level. On Tuesday, Beck said:
This president has exposed himself as a guy over and over and over again who has a deep-seated hatred for white people... this guy is, I believe, a racist.
It's part of a larger argument Beck has been making: that President… Continue
I'm behind in updating my thoughts on the visit to the Creation "Museum" from Friday, but I want to get a specific experience down in a blog post. I was fortunate enough to engage two Christians in conversation, one a decided creationist and the other an on-the-fence Christian unsure of what to believe about evolution. This conversation is described briefly at the end of the Devin Powell article on Inside Science which was… Continue
“God lets thousands of people die in an earthquake, but he helps them win bike races?” Laura said in her best, her very best and cutting sarcastic voice that ended the conversation for then and forever, and made the Tour de France winner look like a fool. God did not exist. Which is really fine because that means this is all we have. That’s what I tell the Elders when they come around.
“I live each day as though that’s all there is. I have no idea where this day came from or if there… Continue

We've had some discussions about health care recently. I've recently found a few things I think are worth sharing, so thought I'd do a little resurrection of the topic.
For a great piece of satire, or maybe irony... Or maybe he's going for reverse-psychology... Check out this Newsweek article by Jonathan Alter. One… Continue
