Coyotes in Our Midst - The Growth of Suburban-Dwelling Eastern Coyotes - A blog of biology by a person who lives with coyotes
For those of you who don't live in the United States, you should know that we actually have 2 species of coyote in this country: The Western Coyote and the Eastern Coyote. (Wiley Coyote from Looney Toons is a Western Coyote).
Coyotes of both kinds have always been with us here. They have roamed this land since the days that Native American tribes wandered the trails. But... apparently Eastern Coyotes are causing a new problem for the modern world.
The Western Coyote is the one…

Common Misconceptions of "religion name goes here"
For those who aren't familiar with the legal concept of the "fruit of the poisonous tree" in regard to evidence; I'll summarize. If information is gathered through any means that is not legal then any conclusions made from that information or additional information, regardless of the validity, is also not legal and can not be used as argument. That is a very quick paraphrase of a much more complex ideal.
It does, however, apply to dogma. I regularly read discussions here on points…

The other day I was reading Michal Moore's book, Stupid white men. In one chapter he said the women ratio is out numbering the men, and then going on on about how men deserve to be whipped out and all. But then I was thinking about the women ratio in the future and what it'll do to Christianity with in the next 40 years or so. I'm thinking that it'll come to three conclusions:
1. It'll raise the lesbians to a large majority in the world.
2. Or that Christianity will have to…

Let It Be
I have a family member who has turned their life into a more positive and healthier direction in the past year. This person’s change in behavior coincided with their increased faith in god and overall commitment to the Christian belief system. During the same time period, I was going through a change (still am) in the opposite direction toward agnostic atheism and loss of faith. I had started to disclose my lack of belief in a divine…

Now I'm Angry
I am finding something to be very annoying when I make it known to a believer that I am an atheist. The person will typically assume that I became an atheist due to me being angry with god or life. The most recent episode occurred at my job when a co-worker asked me if I was catholic. I stated no and told this person that I was an atheist. This person looked at me and stated, "Oh something bad must have happened in your life." In…

Bible Review: Genesis 24-35
So Rachel died, and she was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem), and Jacob set up a pillar over her tomb. It is the pillar of Rachel’s tomb, which is there to this day. – Genesis 35:19-20
Even atheists love Indiana Jones. That goes without saying, of course. Raiders and Last Crusade (let’s leave Temple out of this, shall we?) are rightly considered among the best action-adventure films ever made, and as a child of…

Resources to help atheists find more friends (it can be lonely sometimes)
I just wanted to share some resources/ideas that I have found to be good for finding more atheist friends. I have only been an atheist for about a year now and certainly need more atheist friends.
The best way I have found so far is to go to meetup.com (will help you find friends IRL) and search for local groups by using the keywords: atheist, freethinkers, free thought groups, secular humanists, even some unitarian groups are ok, recovering from religion groups, science fiction…

"Please Help Us Take Back America from the Godless Left - and Buy our Stupid DVD."
I got an automated call today from a stupid far-right fundraising crowd claiming to be behind Newt Gingrich. I'm disappointed the whole thing was automated... I REALLY wanted to have fun with these morons.
"We have reserved a copy of our DVD Documentary "Bringing America Back to God" (or something like that... I don't remember what it was actually called) so that you can help us to fight back against the power of the godless left and teach children the truth about why god was central…

Bible Review: Genesis 15-23
ContinueBut God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said to him, “Behold, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife.” Now Abimelech had not approached her. So he said, “Lord, will you kill an innocent people? Did he not himself say to me, “She is my sister”? And she herself said, “He is my brother.” In the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands I have done this.” Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that you…

Should I vaguely acquiesce?
My job as a cashier is soon to expire. Part of my job is to act over-friendly and smile in an life's-just-peachy-I'm-on-happy-pills sort of way. I was checking out this lady and her old mother and was being friendly and chatty. They had already paid and were about to leave and the old mother said something like "Trust God. That's the most important thing isn't it?" I feel like a coward because I said "I suppose." I can't disagree and get into an argument with them because other people are…

a relationship with the unknown
so i went to this christian camp ( i wanted to go to see if i could find god) and what they taught is that having religion is not the most important thing what matters is that the christian has a personal relationship with god. and they said that you feel god presence and his (god) love, when they had worship time. but all i saw was crazy people screaming JESUS!!!!!!! and that crap. so my question is what is so wrong with having an imaginary friend that can make people feel like they have…
