Your T.V turns on, "Johnny Dipshit Snyder wants to increase your taxes, have some butt sexing with men, and spend more money on ABORTION CLINICS", the message sends a general shriek over the audience, because how dare Johnny Dipshit Snyder make us give him money so he can spend it on abortion clinics, how dare those baby killers steal money from us, where the fuck is that invisible hand of the free market jerking me off? The ad continues "Tanya Studebaker-Miller-Aurthur-Anderson made it her… Continue

Countdown to Zero, a documentary about the history of nuclear weapons, lays out the most non-sensationalized, perfectly rational argument for complete nuclear disarmament I have ever seen presented on screen or off. Many of the world’s nuclear experts show that the idea of safety behind a nuke is nothing more than a myth that requires faith.
President Kennedy, in his 1961 address before the United Nations said, “Today, every inhabitant of this planet must contemplate the day when… Continue

I have a question for those of you who choose to call yourselves agnostics. Do you really believe that it is possible that the Flying Spaghetti Monster really exists? The standard answer I get when I pose this questions is: anything is possible. But if impossibilities did not exist then half the proofs in mathematics are wrong. Now, if you grant that the FSM is (in all likelihood) impossible, why is it any different for any other god? It is difficult for me to fathom how anyone can hear the… Continue

How can I assert my lack of belief when the person with whom I'm talking cannot comprehend what I'm saying? His lack of understanding or misunderstanding creates a wall I can't break. How can I possibly defend my beliefs (or lack thereof) when my methodology of cogitation isn't understood by the other party? It leaves me with my hands tied and leaves him feeling self-righteous; because he can't understand what I'm saying, he feels he must be right. Since when does one lose credibility for… Continue

Yesterday I started a second semester postgraduate Linguistics course called Linguistic approaches to the Study of Narrative. I am going to try to do my final research project for this course on Ayaan Hirsi Ali's autobiography, Infidel
, or consider the agency present in conversion stories. I haven't linked my interest in religion and academia in a long time, so I'm looking forward to this.
In the meantime I'm sitting here working on my readings… Continue

Well seeing that the mods here can censor video without reason.
Seeing that when it happens they feel no explanation is necessary.
Seeing that when requesting information no one feels a need to respond back.
Sorry I will not support a site that will not at least communicate with it's members.
I will just go away and not bother you any more.

So often, when in debate we can encounter an immovable opponent, who, no matter what you say or write, is convinced that their position is right. There is nothing more frustrating than taking the opponent's side into consideration, but getting none of the same in return. This can be due to several different circumstances, for instance: the opponent may not… Continue

Rush Limbaugh, right-wing radio commentator says GOD made the BP oil spill disappear, and he’s backed up by newscasters:

It’s too late
To change your mind
The decision is already gone…
It’s dark all day long
Night comes and stays on…
Forever in the greatest heat wave
People burning under the gold love parade…
Waves of lava in faces unsaved
Growing back yet never replaced yeah…
So called love ones unloved
Sent down to never be hugged
Creator’s middle finger laughing heard…
Yeah it made us in its image disturbed
Unable to tell truth and show… Continue

I wish I could remember where I found this lovely analogy;
This story is like setting your two little babies near the edge of a cliff, telling them “Don’t crawl off or you’ll die”, and then leaving them alone. After saying this you just watch, silent and out of sight, while one of your older and more knowledgeable children goads them into crawling off the edge of the cliff one at a time and falling to their deaths.

After seeing this video

on the entire world, because the Quran demands… Continue

Having sat through two dozen or so graduation speeches, I have naturally wondered why they are so often so bad. One reason, of course, is that the speakers are chosen for their eminence in some field, and not because they are either competent speakers or gifted writers. Another reason is that the audience is eager to be done with all ceremony so that it can proceed to some serious reveling. Thus any speech longer than, say, fifteen minutes will seem tedious, if not entirely pointless. There are… Continue

Recently, while taking a drive down a divided highway north of Mexico City, I had a very close call. A driver traveling in the opposite direction lost control of his vehicle, perhaps losing a wheel and came across the median. There was no time to react. To avoid the imminent head-on collision, the driver swerved back into the deep median at the very last second, rolling his vehicle and losing his life. The scene was gruesome, disturbing and sobering.
Upon sharing this story with a… Continue

This the best use for a confession box in my opinion.
Some Catholics may well sweat in the confessional as they admit to things they shouldn't have done. But Vienna's archdiocese has ruled that the box-like structure cannot be turned into a sauna.
Bidding on a confessional described on eBay as ideal for conversion into a one-person sauna, a small bar or a children's playhouse ended when the archdiocese stepped in.
Archdiocese spokesman Erich… Continue

If the god that these people believed in did exist,I would think he/she/it would make sure they weren't hurt while on his/her/its "holy" mountain.
RESCUE services were forced to carry an injured pilgrim from near the peak of Croagh Patrick to the base because bad weather conditions had prevented a helicopter from landing.
And in another shocking incident, a 10-year-old boy who was ascending the mountain was knocked over by a woman who fell on…
