I've already introduced myself here in the Welcome to TA forum, but thought it might be a good idea to write a little blog entry to give a more detailed account of who I am, what I (don't) believe and how I embraced atheism.
So, I'm in Ireland. I was born and raised here and it really is a beautiful country.
I was born in 1985 into a Roman Catholic family. I…
Well, well. The cleansing spread of toppling Catholic aristocracy has claimed it's latest victim: Archbishop Jozef Wesolowski! He should be more than just defrocked.…Continue
I realise that I have already discussed this in the forum are of the site, but I wanted to post something in a blog form giving my full thoughts on the issue
So the topic I want to address in this blog is the Christian concept of “We are all born sinners” (otherwise known as Original Sin). As a non-Christian I personally do not believe…Continue
I heard that life is sacred, but I don’t know what that word means.
A woman outside a clinic told me that a tiny mass of cells was a person, but I didn’t think it looked like one. I heard her say that the bundle of cells was just what a person looked like when it was very small. She said it had the same genetic makeup and all of the same DNA as a fully grown person and therefore had the same right to life. I watched her scratch…Continue
I thought the latest Cosmos Series with Neal DeGrasse Tyson was entertaining and successful. It was professionally done and I believe Tyson presented the material in a well thought out manner. His references to historical figures and their impact on our understanding of the cosmos and…Continue
It recently dawned on me that although the English language has around 1,000,000 words, only about 150 - 170 of those words are categorized as prepositions. To wit:Continue
One of the smartest men in the world is Chris Langan apparently, and he developed this theory and wrote a book that is now on my reading list. Anyone on ThinkAtheist ever look into this work?
(By the way, please do not join this thread to argue about who the smartest person in the world is. If you want to discuss that, please just start another discussion.)
Anyway, here's an interview with Chris:…Continue
The subtitle of this book is "How to discredit religious thought and rebuild your identity." You can find it easily on amazon. The wording of the book is very complex, but not in such a way that it was difficult for me to follow. After reading it for awhile, you realize that it has to be that way... the wording needs to be very precise, because if it's not it can be argued with.
The book doesn't leave any wiggle room. From beginning to end, there is pretty much nothing any…Continue
