..i'll refine.. this is just a stream of thought that i don't wish to lose.
I have never believed in "God". Even as a child, I had questions that no one could answer.. and I took fierce offense to things witnessed in small town, bible thumping, holy rolling USA that my young mind couldn't justify and that my heart just couldn't bear..all in the name of the lord or within the unnerving walls of 'his' house.. (this terminology always crept me out too). Still, the odious chore was…Continue
I was looking at some things I wrote in 2006-'07, and I found this. It made me smile all over again. It was written in response to some asshat's inquiry about, "Just why WON'T you believe in God?"
Top Ten Reasons Why I Can’t Just Believe in God:
10. I think wings would make my butt look big.
9. I spent way too many Sunday mornings hung over and broke to ever be able to make it to church regularly.
8. Jonathan Davis says God is a lie.
7. I’d have…Continue
Jeeesh! There are so many hyper-critical people everywhere you go these days, most especially on the internet. I can't post anything, no matter how benign, without someone finding a reason to pick it apart; and they don't bother to try and be polite about it, that's for sure. It kind of makes me not want to post anything at all. It's sad, because here on TA, I thought that I had found a place to discuss things with other people in a rational matter, but all I usually get is more of the same…Continue
There is a 90 minute program called "Tapped" that is available for access through the Documentary Channel. It discusses the epidemic rise of discarded bottled water containers that are appearing everywhere in our environment. As of 2009 the United States alone consumed in excess of eighty million bottled water containers A DAY! It is extremely disheartening to see beaches and remote locations in the Pacific Ocean that are overrun with plastic. This plastic degrades and breaks into tiny…Continue

There’s an image floating around on Facebook of what appears to be an African man holding his emaciated son in his arms. The caption says something about God and prayers being unanswered, and how this is proof there is no god. It’s not the only image like it floating around, so I’m sure you get the gist. God answers the prayers of indulgent, greedy Americans yet ignores the pleading of starving children everywhere else in the world (well, and even right in the United States). Of course, a…Continue
Was in a grocery store today in Northern Arkansas and noticed a store employee stocking shelves. On his shirt was fastened a campaign style button that proclaimed "I support Israel." Being on a first name basis with this fellow I couldn't control my curiosity and asked what the significance of the button was. He said the United States is really screwing up by not supporting the country of Israel. I asked if the billions we already give them was not enough. He said the Obama administration…Continue
on wednesday we’ll find out
via Amnesty International,
just how many Palestinians have been
kept in Israeli prisons
without trial &
though the slow strangling of a people
will not cease,
light will be shed on the stark reality
of Palestine’s imprisoned---
yet as the US continues to
pump funds into its little arms box
in the middle east,
constantly increasing the aid it gives its little brother,

Maybe I'm crazy but think about this. The most incredible, powerful, useful thing in the world is free and it is built on on open source. The internet! Maybe if we did away with copyrights and patents, everything would bloom like it has. Maybe instead a company holding a patent for a drug at three hundred dollars a bottle we let competition bring the price down. It would cause losses for the the powers that rule us, but it would create…

"Despite the many changes that have taken place in American society and culture over the past 30 years, including new discoveries in biological and social science, there has been virtually no sustained change in Americans' views of the origin of the human species since 1982. The 46% of…

By "free choice," I mean that we have choices and that we can freely make choices and act upon those choices, thus affecting the courses of our lives.
The question is - Do we have free choice?
I have never been able to give an unqualified answer to this question.
However, I believe that it is a question that one must at least attempt to answer because the whole character of one's philosophy is very much dependent upon that answer. In other words, I…Continue

This week I celebrated the birth of my first child with my wife. My wife has taken to singing to her, and one of her favorite songs to sing is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. The other day I got to thinking that the lyrics are quite outdated, as we now know exactly what a star is. So I endeavored to create some new, more accurate lyrics. Let me know what you think.
Twinkle twinkle little star
Made of hydrogen you are
Way beyond our atmosphere
An orbit 'round you is a…

everything the world does wrong
will have some connection to Iran---
as the media does the bidding of
mr. hope & change n’ his cronies,
everything the world does wrong
will somehow come back to Iran---
until they can manufacture decent looking
“believable” pictures of nukes in Tehran,
or buried in some underground cave
that suspiciously looks a bit too hollywood,
everything the world does wrong
