When my mother and her twin sister were children, they used to pretend that they had telepathy.
I don't have to pretend.
I have unlimited text messaging.
The evolution of travel has been amazing, just in the course of a very few lifetimes.
Across-Ocean travel has gone from an anomaly to a rarity to occasional to daily.
The time it takes has been reduced significantly with each step along the way.
(Adaptation and evolution. It always…

Dealing with death as an atheist
I've only considered myself an atheist for a few years now and recently was in a situation of talking to an elderly neighbor who's sister had just passed away. I don't know my neighbor real well, but I do mow her lawn in the summers and keep the snow cleared for her when I can in the winter. Her sister had been fighting cancer and I'd get the updates every week when I was over doing her yard; until last week when she told me she has died the previous day. I found myself at a loss for…

Dear Mr. Mohler,Where in the Bible does it say that gay marriage is not acceptable? I am sure that you could find me several examples. I would like to provide you with some interesting scripture that…

Venting Session #1
So, I just need to vent this really quick because it really really makes me angry...
My sister and I are home alone earlier today when all of a sudden a man neither of us know rings the doorbell. I was on my way to answer the door when he just tries to walk into our house--luckily the door was locked. I then made the decision that I wasn't going to open the door to a stranger who thought he could just walk into my house univited. He then stood there for a little while, rang…

So Help Me God?
I recently reenlisted in the US Navy and had to take the Oath of Enlistment again. I was a Christian when I originally joined, but have since become an atheist. There is a part of the Oath of Enlistment for the US Armed Forces that inlcudes "So help me God". It is optional, but I failed to mention to the officer who administered the oath that I would be omitting that part. Instead I had printed out a copy of the oath that did…

Get Your Thinking Hats On! Scientist-Politician-Atheist Offers Own Money For Origin of Life Prize
This is great! About time someone put a carrot on the stick of moving things forward with proving the origins of life argument. Especially from an atheist like Lonsdale! I would guess a 50K initial prize with prospects of 2 million more will get our reasoned minds working! Kudos to Mr. Lonsdale for this.

We need atheist missionaries. Period.
It would be nice if we all lived in Never-Never Land where TV shows like Glee and Nova do all the work for us. A one-two punch of inclusiveness and scientific reasoning would shed light on all the theist strongholds in the US, and people would wake up and say "Gosh, I have been sooooo wrong supporting Intelligent Design and churches run by homophobes."
We don't live in that world.
Just as the US couldn't…

Church has Atheist billboard removed
I'm not shocked, but I am still pretty pissed off. The billboard was to feature local atheists where I live. It was going to be some sort of coming out and to aid in social acceptance. Some church folk complained and now they have to "relocate" to another billboard. I'm sure when it’s on a new billboard it will be removed too. It’s things like this that make me want to scream and tell people to eff off. I see their billboards and their religious propaganda every single day. It wasn't giving…

VAINGLORY VI
(The following is a journal entry left by the 4th century monk, Evagrius Ponticus concerning his discovery of “the eight deadly sins”)
Dear Lover of the Fictitious Character,
Last night in my dream, I stabbed the “God” and the “Savior” which you so desperately still seem to need an innumerable amount of times. He’s dead! It’s dead! Hey, whatever image or thought that you tried your hardest…

GREED III
(The following is a journal entry left by the 4th century monk, Evagrius Ponticus concerning his discovery of “the eight deadly sins”)
Dear God,
I write to you today, as my prayers still go unanswered, to commit in writing my confession to you, as dear Lord I have sinned against you in thought, word & deed. My own greed has forced me to steal from my neighbor, who was not at home this…

LUST I
(The following is a journal entry left by the 4th century monk, Evagrius Ponticus concerning his discovery of “the eight deadly sins”)
Dear God,
I put my fingers in the oil lamp again just now. The flames did sear my flesh, but I cannot begin to withdraw from these thoughts that I have been having as of recent. I roll torridly in my bed with images of unnamed women. I roll torridly wanting to…

My parents reaction to me saying "I'm an Atheist".
After I told my parents I was an Atheist, they have never acted the same around me since. I didn't post this before because I wanted to get familiar with the site and meet some people, but anyways, It all started about 4 or 5 years ago when I was having doubts about the existence of god and I was starting to feel very uncomfortable in churches. I believe I was about 13 or 14 when I told my parents I was an Atheist. The reaction of my mother and what she said to me still hurts me today. After…
