AHA is suing to keep a Christian monument from being purchased by city council funds and placed on public property.
And we wonder why they hate us?
Fuck all that. I don't want my city paying $50k for a monument of a…Continue
Just finished "The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution" by Richard Dawkins. Here's my brief review on GoodReads.com:
"In typical Dawkins form, this is a fabulous complimentary supplemental to Jerry Coyne's "Why Evolution Is True", and drives home the FACTS of evolution that vindicate Darwin's theory. After reading this book, you will never again question the age of the earth, or the rise of speciation of life upon it."

So, I know some of you had to watch the program on Animal Planet about mermaids that aired a few days ago. (Or at least I am hoping that some of you have) Interesting stuff huh. Rationally, could there have been a line that evolved in the water rather than on land? I think it's entirely possible, but what about proof. By now we all know that the shows on Animal Planet were hoaxes. But what about all the people throughout history who claim to have seen mermaids? Were they lying, or is it a…Continue

Disclaimer: This is an article posted on AlterNet which I could tell had a lot of important things within it, but the message was held hostage in the worst formatting of a (presumably) recorded interview ever. I only took the time to format it myself because I really wanted to untangle what Chomsky had to say, and break the word-wall down into digestible paragraphs. I also made some edits for the sake of clarification, so it's not all completely original. I tried to contain my edits within…Continue

This is my last report regarding
my mission to evaluate the beings of this world.
Thirty of this planet’s orbital cycles ago
I arrived here by Refracted Linear-Light/Fold.
Since then I have lived, worked, and played alongside
these beings in the guise of one of their own.
Universal Protocols remain intact.
I have had no ill-effect nor have I…
I would like your help on a few questions i pose to friends and family, mostly armchair moderate christians, a few agnostics, and some young nieces and nephews that are atheists but afraid to admit it to their parents...i would like some honest and thoughtful answers that i could possibly use in a section of a book i am writing, nothing that involves names ect; or even specifics of any kinds...its just a fill in section to take the writing from one chapter to another. here are a few and i…Continue
As a child, it was as if I'd been shoved into a huge cathedral packed wall-to-wall with billions of people, and everybody was wearing a hat. Up on my tip-toes, straining to look out over the heads of the crowd, I saw a massive turbulent sea of hats of all shapes and colors. Although the hats themselves were quite vivid, everyone's face was blurred.
Everyone in the crowd was proclaiming their hat to be the best hat to…
For anyone who has read Richard Dawkins' wonderfully crafted "The God Delusion" (if you haven't, go get a copy NOW) I recommend this book: "The God Virus: How Religion Infects Our Lives and Culture" by Darrell Ray.... anyone else read it or other like it?
Taurus the Bull
Taurus is a bull, well half of a bull anyway. The front half. Actually mostly the head, with a shiny red eye. I think he’s been drinking. He’s charging Orion who appears to be perfectly prepared to defend himself from the assault. Orion also appears to have lost his pants but we don’t talk about…
Why I'm Atheist summed up neatly by Marcus Aurelius:
“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved"
CONSOLATION TWENTY-EIGHT: POKER
Always a favorite hobby, poker has become something more to me now that I'm in my late seventies. It's the one competitive activity I can still do with men and women a third my age. Can't do it in sports -- in golf, the only sport I can still play without tearing myself apart, I have to use the senior tees. Can't do it professionally -- I'm retired from all that. Only in poker can I still sit down with 20-, 30-,…Continue
So im watching MSNBC the other day as i usually do (since id have to commit suicide if i watched fox news for more than 2 seconds), and theyre covering the Moore, OK. tornado like everyone else was. It was 3-4 days after the actual event and everyone's doing stories on the clean up ect... So the camera was following this 20some yr old young woman as shes walking down a street then into a parkinglot, and the reporter is asking her the usual questions like, "how is the clean up effort going",…Continue

I recently started teaching at a small home school. I had no idea what I was getting into until I started teaching "Biology" <--- note the quotations! I opened up the book expecting to find hard facts and good lessons but instead it started off by saying how all animals were created on the 5th day. *Cue immediate facepalm* Now I'm supposed to read this to my class, which took some hard effort and displacement of my consciousness. I felt like such a fraud!
But THEN I came across a…Continue

6 liters of 100% pure cranberry juice and an entire pack of Cystex later, I'm still pissing blood.
It's been four days.
I'm not going to be seeing a doctor anytime soon because .... 'Ermerica!
But that's beside the point.
Generally when I'm on my own for healthcare, I order aquarium antibiotics online. They go through more purity testing than the livestock stuff I have for my homestead. I can't wait another three days for them to…Continue
