Received the following link from New Scientist today. I think it's hugely exciting that we have progressed this far with the ability to map a portion of our universe.

Roughly 80 percent of about 100 voucher schools in Milwaukee are religious. - This is from the following article from Madison.com and my guess would be this is true on a national scale. We need to fight against this. The article is as follows:
Annie Laurie Gaylor: Voucher school proposal would rob public schools to subsidize religious…Continue
So what happened to Aristotle's mum upon her death, if she did not believe in the "one true god" of the middle eastern religions, because they had not been made up at the time
Aristotle, for those that don't know, is thought of as one of the great philosophers of all time and therefore he had a big impact on the shaping of the modern world. Likewise, his mum should get a special mention as the woman that bore and raised him.
And what about all the other Ancient Greeks,…Continue

Obviously the end of the world did not occur on the 21st, but of course some of those people who believe and follow Camping believe these tornadoes in the mid west are the start of the rapture and a volcano erupting... blah blah blah... But how are Christians using science to disprove this when they continue to ignore science when it comes to the bible?
How dare Christians who believe in the bible claim that the volcano erupting was due to plate tectonics and that tornadoes…Continue
Robert wrote this in chat this morning, and in the context, I know he was trying to encourage Heather as she headed out to an interview today. As I thought about it, I wondered if we really think about the things we say out of habit or out of a thoughtlessness borne out of tradition or good gestures, such as saying "bless you" when someone sneezes.
We say things like that without understanding the meaning or the origins of it and it seems an acceptable way to communicate our well…Continue
I often refer to Jesus as a quasi-historical figure, a statement which drives the Christians I know into fits of apoplexy. Jerry the Evangelical Neighbor likes to fall back on the most tired of all the basic refutations.
“There is less proof for the existence of Socrates or Plato than of Jesus.” He once responded to a Facebook post of mine.
I don’t know that to necessarily be a fact. I rather doubt he does either. At least I was a philosophy major in college;…Continue

Fear-monger, religious charlatan and all-around crackpot Harold Camping has finally emerged from whatever cubbyhole he's been hiding in since his ridiculous prediction of the world's demise failed to come true. The much ballyhooed day of reckoning came and went like any other Saturday, without the realization of apocalyptic earthquakes and Christian prophecy. Even the most brainwashed of…Continue

Dunkin Donuts guy how are you?
Other Guy: ALive, better than the alternative
I looked over at the other guy and yes, saw a HUGE cross on his neck. I was SOOOOOOO tempted to say, "actually you do want the alternative".
But no, I kept my comments to myself. In retrospect, I should've said something. If he wears his religion that blatantly to make sure I notice it, then I should've called him out on it.
Okay, this is something I am certain others have heard the faith-fools say: "If there is no god, then I should just do whatever the hell I want right? If there is no consequence..."
You know the drill, people who feel that there must be an external source of morality in order for it to be legitimate, that deep down inside the only reason we know right from wrong is because some dusty scroll told us so.
This conversation is one I have had with everyone privy to my atheism, but…Continue
this is my absolute favorite.
Harold Camping: "I'm not a genius, and I pray all the time for wisdom"
From the view of rationality he's basically saying: "I'm not very smart, and I don't do anything to change that"
It's from the BBC article found here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-13516796
Fear is an important tool in the arsenal of the Religious.
With HELL being the main evidence that Fear is important in getting people to follow Religious rules.
But if someone BELIEVES simply out of fear, then is the belief really sincere?
Are they believing because they feel in their heart that this is the truth?
Or are they simply believing because they don't want to suffer in Hell for Eternity?
Another thing is the fear of being turned into an…Continue

A modern retelling of the incredible way God gave his message to the world:
From the author-
I am the creator of the universe. I care deeply about humanity, and I wish for you all to live with me in my undetectable realm of perfection for all eternity. To gain access, all you need to do is follow the instructions in my new book.
It'll tell you all about me, and what I expect from you. My likes and dislikes, important historical…
and so another end of the world has rolled on
and for those that stopped paying their bills,
who might have quit their jobs,
who spent all their money in the last couple of
weeks before the predicted day
just what it must be like to believe in a fictional character who
never ceases to disappoint
when it comes to this blessed
to believe in a…Continue
