I am an atheist, and that's it. I am the atheist. If you are also an atheist, awesome. If you are not, well that's cool too. I may think that religion is false, but that was my choice to make. Everyone has their own choice, and if you want to choose religion, I may not agree, but I can't complain that you made your own choice. I try to be nice about it. When in an argument with a theist, I try may hardest to not insult them, but to simply tell them… Continue

I am SO grateful to Jennifer Hancock, author of The Humanist Approach to Happiness for writing about this! I hope that we can make a difference. Please share this with other atheists/freethinkers/humanists/agnostics (whoever--of course) to help spread the word.
Without sharing too much, I know for a fact, that Morgan's parents give ALL of the credit for her gradual improvement to doctors… Continue

today is Houdini and Spanelli's 2nd birthday.
they have now been missing since my birthday, Oct 4th 2009. I don't
know what happened to them. they vanished from my yard and were never
seen again. I miss them so much and I was trying not to remember their
birthdays, but catster emailed me. I immediately just burst into tears.
I love them and miss them so much. I still hand out lost posters and
I still call their names in the middle of the night… Continue

So this year I had to take a speech class to graduate. For one of my speeches i informed my class about atheism. I know that i was the only atheist in there. It actually went over very nicely. I was the only senior in the class so i dont really think they cared all that much but i know I informed the teacher ans a few students. Only 2 of the students came to me asking me a few more questions about atheists and they were 2 very religious girls. But what i thought was the very cool part is that… Continue

The story of how elderly gay couple, Clay and Harold
, were treated by the County of Sonoma in California could shock even the most homophobic. Using every legal protection available to them wasn’t enough to protect them from being separated at the end of Harold’s life. Clay was forcibly removed from his home, put in a nursing home against his will; all of his possessions were taken… Continue

The conversation takes place between me and someone I've been friends with for the past 5 years. We were discussing some issues that I've been dealing with that have been difficult. She's a Christian, (like the majority of my friends). I know she loves me and cares about me, and she's always been there for me when I needed her but things got a bit unnerving for me when she wrote " Can you do me a favor?" I knew it was coming. "I just want you to pray about it" Here's how the conversation… Continue

Dear Mr. Pope!
You're full of it! Another show of crocodile tears and
empty promises that something will be done to give the illusion of
caring! Another call for prayers, as if THAT will get results!
Honestly, I don't expect ANYTHING to be done! You hide behind opulent
walls and wear threads of gold while you send your minions to starving
third world countries to preach the evils of birth control! When are
you going stop acting like putting two hands together… Continue

Not only am I going to author, approve AND feature my blog....
I'm not even going to talk about anything relevant!
I'm just bored and want attention.
Well, that and because there are a few discussions going on right now that have helped me form opinion-fetuses.
These little ideas might well grow into something interesting, so help me out! Comment, criticize and adore to your heart's content.
Shine and I are going to start an atheist commune.… Continue

I'm sitting back reading Nelson's Sunday School
and something has occurred to me. After decades of this inaction on priests whom have raped children all over the world, we have seen little to no action from governments and parents. Governments aren't prosecuting the church for having protected these guys. They aren't prosecuting Priests and telling the… Continue

I recently attended a panel discussion at the University of Cape Town on religion and gender. It was hosted by the Current Affairs Student Society and the people on the panel were:
Charles. A white Christian man.
Sadia. An Indian Muslim woman.
Azila. A White Jewish woman.
All three debators are from the Religious Studies Department at UCT, and Azila is the first and only female Rabbi in South Africa.
Charles spoke about the… Continue

How widespread is restricted hospital visitation? People don't always live near relatives. Sometimes a friend, neighbor, or a co-worker is the only caring person the patient has. I find it difficult to believe that a hospital would prevent a medical power of attorney from seeing the hospitalized trustee.… Continue

Yesterday, my dad and I were in the kitchen. I have a journal the I write his ramblings about, about his childhood, his coming to Canada, all sorts of memories since he has no childhood photos of any kind or souvenirs from his youth. So, I was writing away when he asks, "Who made man's blood red?" He's basically asking why god chose red for man's blood. I told him (and I was told this a long time ago, so correct me) that when your blood is exposed to oxygen, it turns red and that it's actually… Continue
