death of a christian science English teacher

i remember well the name of my 11th grade English

teacher---

Ms. Tominson,

who had been rumored to have given

some of her students

fellatio, during the time when she wasn’t lecturing on

Shakespeare---

perhaps it was the passion in her that

let her go wild after hours,

drinking with her teen pupils &

then sucking them dry---

but what led to her decent into

christian science,

one may never…

The good news?

http://brainhulklogicsmash.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-good-news.html

It never seems to fail... Whenever the door to door religion salesmen come knocking, I'm just not home. Unlike most that want to avoid them, I would actually like to explain the errors of their flawed arguments. Sadly, they either come when only my wife is home, or when we are both out. The latter was the case yesterday. We got back to…

Be Afraid

Fairy tales are more than true, not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten. ~ Neil Gaiman, Coraline Fear of God

Habakkuk 1:1 to 3:2

1:1 The burden of being Jewish from the point of view of Habakkuk.

Lord how long do I have to sit around balling my eyes out and you will not hear me crying? Even when there is massive violence you will not come save us. There is something…

when a “prophet” dies,

has there been a “prophet” in the making?

Evangelical Christian Business Owners vs. Moral Atheist Employee

NOTE: The following story is heavily abridged, and some specific details have been deliberately omitted for various reasons. However, I have the documentation to prove beyond any doubt that everything stated below, and more, is absolutely true.

In 2006, I was hired by a local company as their new IT Administrator.  One of the company's vice presidents, a self-proclaimed Evangelical Christian and leader of a gospel musical group, took it upon herself to save my soul…

Advice for Pope Francis I

[Crosspost from here: http://letreasonreign.wordpress.com/2013/03/13/advice-for-pope-francis-i/].  Visit letreasonreign for more caustic commentary on religion.

In most matters (with one exception I will get to), here’s my advice, one moving picture worth a thousand words:…

What I Want

There's a "What Women Want" and a "What Men Want" thread, but I don't think what I want quite belongs in either category because they are heteronormative threads. "What Women Want" is really "What Women Want from Men" and I'm a lesbian. "What Men Want" (From Women) is for men, and I'm a woman. So here goes my own thing.

I want a woman who is understanding and kind, not just to me, but to people in general. I want somebody who knows who she is and has her life together, not a big mess…

Poetry: Farmer

The world is a farm,

And we are the cattle.

And with his gilded arm,

The farmer takes to battle.

He gives us our feed,

Conditioning our lives,

For his own personal greed,

On which he thrives.

There is no room for creativity,

In the tiny pen.

Too much inactivity,

Controlled by the Cowmen.

And if a cow was to think,

And…

All Creatures Great and Small ???

It is interesting that the theists claim that their god created "all creatures great and small." This is an image of a deep sea creature called the humpback angler fish. It is one of the most gruesome, hideous looking, and downright terrifying creatures I have ever seen. It was in the most recent issue of Smithsonian magazine about the bioluminescence of ocean inhabitants. This strange fish has a "fishing pole" attached above it's eyes that moves up and down in front of it's formidable…

Thou Shalt Not Murder...

The Bible Says That We Should Not Kill One Another.

But Does It Say WHY We Shouldn't Kill Each Other?

I've Seen A Lot Of Posts On Facebook Saying That We Should Be Taught How To Think, Not What To Think.

And I'm Just Curious To Know If The Bible Gives Any Reasons As To Why We Shouldn't Kill Each Other Or If It Just Says Don't Do It Because I Said So.

Now Don't Get Me Wrong, I Have Plenty Of Reasons As To Why We Shouldn't Kill One Another, But What Does The Bible…

Religionitis

RELIGIONITIS.

DEFINITION - A viral disease affecting the brain, causing mental disorder and irrational thought processes.

PROGNOSIS - Poor, unless immediate action taken. It spreads rapidly through the brain like a cancerous growth; it is only observed in human animals, it is absent in the more intelligent species.

GENERAL OBSERVATIONS - Look for excessive piety, crosses on…

Morality Without God

                                                          Morality Without God

Ten reasons why I would argue that my lack of a belief in a punishing God makes me a more moral person than someone who is religious. My moral choices aren’t made out of fear of eternal punishment. Just as I don’t have a reason to have “good” morals, I don’t have an excuse for bad ones, either.

1.) I don’t have a…

Secular Morality and the Strive for Faith in Others

ALL right, all right. And so: Here we are.

When I was last active on this site roughly a year or so ago, I had recently denounced my Catholic faith in the spirit of teenage angst/bitter confusion. I was scared, pissed off, and disillusioned; moreover, I had basically become a cynical douche who thought he was somehow more inept to attaining knowledge of “the inner-workings of the universe” only because I had been forced to deal with several untimely deaths in my family/friend circle… Continue

Hell Houses

I want to step away from Philosophical debates and the sort for a second and talk about something that I think is truly a detriment to modern society. As the title of this post indicates the subject of my post is about these places called Hell Houses.

Now these places depict graphic scenes of what they consider sins. They depict the torment in hell that the sinful suffer. Some of you may be asking yourselves what makes these places different from other horror productions or stage… Continue

Augustine and His Confessions

Anyone who has read Augustine's Confessions will know his views on God. One view that I have been thinking about is how God is unchanging. One thing God must not have, to fit this description (according to Augustine), is emotions. This is something that many Christians and Catholics would agree with. However, there is a problem because in the Bible there is evidence of God having emotions. Take the First of the Ten Commandments:

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any… Continue
