Free Will and the Bible

Free Will and the Bible

Some assert that man has free will. Some assert that all is determined. Some say (as I do) that free will is compatible with determinism. The debate has raged, unabated, for millennia.

Clearly, an interceding God presents problems for free will. However, a cosmic God - a Creator who does not intervene in human affairs - might be compatible with free will if he keeps his omniscience and omnipotence to himself. I,…

God's Miracles

We are often exposed to the "miracles" of God...

A baby survives a horrific car crash

A loved one survives cancer

A wounded soldier survives a battlefield injury

etc.

Obviously, though, the "blame" for those people being put in those situations in the first place is NEVER God's "fault".

But how about this one (and the countless others like it that occur to defenseless infants and children every single day)?

Baby born without eyes:…

"My prayers go out to the victims and their family"

Another cliche statement Theists say that annoys me and makes no sense. Instead of folding your hands and talking to yourself do something.

Has a believer ever told you "We are living in the last days and times" ?

I'm in my 20's and I've been hearing this since I was 5yrs. old, especially from older people. What exactly does that mean and what kind of response is a statement like that suppose to draw?

Examining the Wedge: Is Intelligent Design Actually Science?

This was an essay for my college English class.

The origins of life have been debated and discussed for millennia. Ancient cultures, such as the Greeks, had their creation myths. Modern religion still supports using mythology based on a literal interpretation of scripture as a valid explanation for how life came to be. For the last one hundred and fifty years, the scientific community has supported evolution as the best explanation of how life came to be. However, there has been… Continue

How many of you believe 2012 is going to happen?

I don't mean logically, as in it IS going to happen because it comes after 2011.

But I mean seriously, honestly, desperately believe that the world is going to end?

I've been in a semi-debate on facebook because someone sent me a message with a chain letter saying this:

"Keep doubting that theProphecies of 2012 are wrong; in the mean time check this out… Continue

Smut for Smut - Exchange your Bible for Porn

I almost spit out my confession wafer when I read that a group of students at that University of Texas, San Antonio campus, are convincing students to let go of their Bibles and embrace the wonderful world of pornography. The atheist group, Atheist Agenda, is again offering porn to any student over the age of 18 willing to part with their beloved book in their "Smut for Smut" campaign indicating that looking at porn is no worse… Continue

The Death Penalty: A Case for Abolition

The death penalty is a brutal hangover from primitive legal systems and has no place in modern society. The United States stands alone among the world’s democracies in its use of capital punishment. This form of punishment has no place in a nation founded upon reason, justice, and liberty. Reason dictates that the death penalty can only further incite violence in this culture as legal authority condones retributive killing. Justice sees nothing valuable in a punishment… Continue

Atheist Response to Threats of Hell

Whenever I hear christians claim that I am going to burn in hell because I do not believe in their god, I want to laugh hysterically. Unfortunately, I don't think that fully communicates how ridiculous I find that statement. So I have decided to turn the tables and I hope you all do the same. When told you are going to spend eternity in some christian version of hell, respond with this:

"You will be the one to suffer for eternity. Because you have blasphemed against the…
