We have all watched and read accounts of atheists coming out to their families, but I am curious if there are equal accounts of people coming out as religious to their atheist families?

I can't count how many times I've been told I'm going to burn in Hell. Sometimes the voice that tells me is concerned, other times it is gleeful. But.... you don't need to disbelieve in Hell because no one REALLY knows what happens after we die. No... you can make a Christian's argument collapse in on itself through a basic thought experiment that anyone with a high school education can understand.
Let's engage in that thought experiment, shall we?
Let's say that Mr. Christian…

while shopping with their mother on “good friday”
the kid got caught shoplifting &
after being dragged into the secret room with the plain-clothed cop &
after totaling up what had been stolen &
after the whole pretending-to-cry-buckets episode
failed to succeed in gaining any kind of leniency on behalf of the embarrassed &
fuming mad christian mother,
the two left the store with a new order arising---

The most important thing that keeps America safe. Exploitation of gods in politics is enough to make me sick! We need to keep gods out of government, separation is so important. It seems that those that are religious want to run the governments there way or the hell with you. People killing others over religion is just nuts! Holly books written as they believe by or inspired by there gods are the enlightened way to…

I recently found out my daughter's High School "science teacher" is unwilling to teach 'conventional evolution' based on her reservations about teaching a theory she doesn't believe in. I guess this is one of those things you say you saw coming but never thought would happen to you (your family). I am wondering about how best to pursue this issue. My first inclination is a scorched earth take no prisoners assault on the principals office…

so pleasant to hear someone exclaim
“gesundheit!” when ya sneeze,
meaning the German word for “health,”
literally wishing good health for someone who shows the possibility of
sickness---
so much better than the ignorant, superstitious &
idiotic blabbering of
“bless you,” or “’god’ bless you,”
in which the “blesser” might believe
upon seeing another sneeze that
because their “soul” leaves their body when…

I am trying to understand the rational behind the catholic church's stance against both abortion and contraception. I understand the abortion issue from their point of view but what is their problem with preventing a sperm from fertilizing an egg? This planet already has in excess of 8 billion people and our natural resources are dwindling away. Population control would seem to be an important concern for our civilization. Abstinence is no longer a valid option in today's modern sexual…

Hello again :) I'm back with another rant about my biology class. But first I'll update on my last rant involving the question "What are two limits of science that make scientific study of miracles difficult or impossible?" which appeared on last Monday's test. This question goes hand-in-hand with the short discussion we had in class about science and miracles, with my professor ending said discussion by proclaiming that science is outside the realm of miracles.
Well, not too…

Okay. So. I'm currently in my Anthropology of Religion class. The teacher (someone who I'm convinced was an acid-dropping hippy when she was younger... she's rather... erm... "ethereal") brought her Yoga instructors to talk to the class.
First, they talk about spiritual nonsense as if it's fact: "we all know that humans are just spirits experiencing the human condition" and "we know that there are higher realms of understandings". This stuff was proven? Did I miss a memo? Is…

I am 21 years old, and I was not raised in a church, or told to say my prayers before I wen to bed at night. To be honest, you wouldn't have known god had a presence in my childhood home at all except for a small wooden cross on the wall. My father and step mother are by self declaration Catholic, though they have never attended Mass once in my life that I know of..now on the other side of the family my mother and step father are very religious; church every sunday, prayer, etc.
I…

I'm geeking out over a little bit of science I recently learned:
The 3 color sensitive cell types in our eyes allow us to see Red, Green, and Blue color wavelengths, mixing and matching to give us the rainbow. But there's a flaw in our ability to detect what we perceive as opposing colors such as Red and Green. To our eyes, mixing red and green pigments gives us grey, not the color Red-Green. Our eyes cannot see red-green as a color. Dogs have a 2 color system, meaning they still see…

This morning I walked with my wife and our dogs to look at my wife’s new allotment. It will take a lot of hard work to get things growing there! We will have to do all the digging, planting and watering (there is no nearby tap for dry spells so we will have to be creative or lug vast amounts water there.) There will be sun and some rain but I am not relying on anything supernatural to help me.
I then sorted out a few things for my kids. Having children was a lifestyle choice and I…

throughout history for the sake of these books?
how many people have killed & continue to kill for the sake of
these books?
how many people deprive others of their freedoms for the sake of

how many people abuse their children for the sake of
these books?
how many people have been conquered in the name of these…

Mankind believes in God because most of mankind cannot help themselves to not believe. The majority of Mankind appears to need simple answers when something is unexplainable (how we got here), or horribly indifferent.
God or religion is like comfort food for even those who are intelligent and inventive. Just look at 9-11 and the collapse of the Twin Towers.
For the past 10 years I have listened to "God Bless America" to honor the victims. Every time I hear "God Bless America"…

Now, this to me has always been an…

Dear Anthony,
You may have finally begun to notice that our little family sticks out from the rest of your relatives. I don't drag you to church on Sundays, you may have been baptized but you haven't followed through with any other sacrament, you have never been to midnight mass and most of all, your momma doesn't pray.
Some of our family will try and tell you that I am short-changing you, I expect that as you grow older that the pressure for you to join them on Sundays will…

This is just a part of some comments he made in regards to what he sees as an attack on the U.S. by Satan. He goes after higher education first then goes on from there to churches and government..I think it's a prime example of just how he wants to undermine education in the U.S.
"This is not a political war at all. This is not a cultural war at all. This is a spiritual war. And the father of lies has his sights on what you would…

The Obama administration has recently adopted a very narrow definition of religious exclusions in the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare. The effect of this is that ostensibly religious institutions such as Catholic hospitals and universities would be required, along with everyone else, to include coverage of birth control in their health insurance plans, even if they cite religious reasons why they would not want to. This move has several interesting legal, moral, and…
