Gullible and Guilty

Last night whilst soaking in a hot bath I was contemplating the journey so far from spiritualist to atheist and I had this gnawing feeling in my stomach which I realised was guilt.

So why the guilt?

I suppose what I am annoyed at is how gullible I have been, instead of researching possible causes for the experiences I had, instead I was lazy and just accepted them at face value.  From the age of 20 I might as well had been in a cult as the group I was in were very… Continue

A letter to Charles Lewis

Dear Charles:

I have read your last two letters in Holy Post about faith as well as Father Tim Moyle’s. Technically they weren’t addressed to me because I am an agnostic and not an atheist but I felt the need to respond nonetheless.

Your first letter was titled “Dear Atheists: No-one Cares What You Think”. To be… Continue

Confessions of an Ex-Priest

A friend of mine gave me a box full of "The Sudbury Star"  WEEKEND MAGAZINE from 1970 to 1979.  I came across this article.  I'll just give some of the juicier aspects of it, since it's several pages long.

Resignations from the priesthood have become epidemic. Paul.... (I won't give his last name)..., a former Basilian Father, today is married and a father of three. " The Church is not a spiritual institution" he told Stephen  ..........., "it's a multinational corporation."…

How does this words feel? Did you have any vision in your mind?
Probably you imagined a white unicorn in your mind.

I Will Not Be Told: Stephen Fry's Speech at Harvard

Previously I mentioned I was going to see Stephen Fry live in Feb. Well, that was today.

From my blog:

I just attended Stephen Fry's acceptance of the Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award in Cultural Humanism, given by the Humanist Chaplaincy at Harvard.  His speech was quite different than the one he gave for the Intelligence² Debate.  The main…

OOPS...Brief Intro To Greek Mythology

So for anyone interested in watching a doc about greek gods and the such, please visit that site. They mention the parallels of Christianity to this, coincidence? I believe this takes from Hesiod's Theogony, which is the Greek's equivalent to Genesis. Have fun!

Edit: The narrator and some of the speakers also think this stuff happened! lovely, just…

Invite to a secular pilgrimage

The Ancestor's Trail - Sunday the 29th May 2011.

Religious folks certainly know how to throw a party; festivals, ceremonies, feasts, sacrament, Hajj, Vesak, Bar Mitzvah and the list goes on....

But what if your beliefs are rather more down to earth? In 2010 a small group of Humanists ran our very first 'biological pilgrimage' on the Quantock hills in Somerset UK ~ a secular celebration of our shared origins, based on Richard…

I want the thread back around my throat

“Where is it?

Who took it from me?

I want it back!

Who stole my thread?

They will outcaste me!

Please give it back to me!

I want the thread back around my throat!”

The Thread around my Throat

The thread around my Throat

I was 11. They tied a thread around my throat.

Why? I never asked. It’s still there.

I liked it; it was the symbol of the elites.

I change it when it gets dirty, but it keeps getting dirty every time.

Something never let's it be clean forever.

I don’t know what it is, but there’s something.

I grew;…

Living according to the Bible

So a guy gets Leviticus 18:22 (“You shall not lie with a male as one does with a woman. It is an abomination.”) tattooed on his arm cause he’s obviously against homosexuality and lives by the Bible.

But in the next chapter Leviticus 19:28 (“You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD.”) forbids tattoos. Maybe he should have kept reading?

Video Links.

Hi, I see that I can add video - which I should probably do at some point. Anyway, I wanted to start a "favorite atheist YouTube channels and videos" thread. Forgive me if it has been done recently.

Coping Skills?

Maybe it's just my perception, but it sure seems that recently religion is getting pushed into my life (and home, and work, ...) more and more. Or perhaps my awareness of it is going up. I would consider this a good thing (increased awareness is good, regardless of topic) but I'm finding it more difficult to cope.

Just a few examples:

I've hinted to my mother (but only gently, because I'm not yet ready to catch those pieces) that I'm an atheist. And yet she sent me a holiday card…

The Know-it-all Atheist

Every so often, someone will tell me that atheists are impossible to debate, because they think they know it all.  Someone will tell me that I am dismissing their claims before I have even heard them.  They accuse me of shutting out the “evidence” they have to “prove” god’s existence.  They say I am doing what I accuse them of doing:  sticking fingers in the ears and screaming, “La-La-la! Can’t hear you!”

Well, they may have a point.  I…

Conversation with a Youtube Theist

I just wanted to share something with you

I wanted to share with you this letter that has changed a few atheist's hearts.I sent this to some atheists that were caught in the middle and wanted God to be true more than what they were deluded to believe.

You don't have to belong to any denomination or doctrine of faith to be saved.I suggest you follow your heart. What does your heart tell you?

Here I am going to share with you some advice I…

I'm Also A Writer

One of the things I'm most passionate about in my life is my writing so I decided to share some of the things i wrote concerning Atheism on here with all of you.

Atheism is the best cure for your disease,

Put your constant need to please "God" at ease.

Let you relax a little, put your mind at peace,

Your soul will be officially freed.

Don't worry, this bitch ain't tryin' to convert you,

I'm just giving you the option to end the abuse.
