Apparently, some of the attendees at my freethought shorts program a couple weeks ago were "rocked" by the presentation. There were about 20 humanists in attendance at this particular meeting, and I did not ask for demographic information (against my instinct) before I agreed to visit the group. I was at least 20 years younger than 95% of the group. Upon this realization, it was clear that independent films were not likely their forte.
The program of films that I'm… Continue

Why is there a God?
There a billions of stars in a galaxy and millions of galaxies in the universe. Many of these stars aren't even medium yellow like our sun. The odds of a planet forming to Earth-like standards are actually microscopic, even if other planet types can form the basics of life. Our planet is one tiny speck in a vast universe. I would almost call it insignificant.
What makes you think we're the center of some grand cosmic scheme of some importance?
If God is so… Continue

Hello my lovely heathens!
I wanted to open up a space here to get some constructive criticism and suggestions on internship positions at Think Atheist. For those of you who don't yet know, I have become the first official Think Atheist intern, and have been helping Morgan out behind the scenes getting a lot of grunt work off the ground for the website. However, one of the goals I assigned to myself as a part of my work here was to help design a more dedicated internship program to… Continue

Before answering this question, it is imperative to truly define murder. To me, “murder” is an intentional, malicious act which serves to terminate the biological functioning of an innocent individual. Of course, this definition then begs the question of what exactly constitutes an individual. Surely plants are not considered individuals, yet a coma patient is. I think that the easiest way to define an “individual person” is both the possession of an advanced central nervous system… Continue

A few days ago, we had a new member by the name of Tim. Tim posted an introductory blog telling us about himself. I can't link to it now, because it's gone. I'll get to that. First, let me repost Tim's blog.Hi,I'm a minor (17) and I'm wondering what exactly are my rights? I've tried researching around and I can't seem to… Continue

I got a friend request on Myspace for Straight Atheists. For some reason I thought it would be something like straight-up Atheist. I dunno, now that doesn't make much sense--but that's really not the point. This guy is bashing homosexuality and the Atheists that are okay and support/tolerate it. He calls it a malfunction and what not. He seems to be a militant anti-homosexual Atheist. I will no doubt be deleting his page. Sure, he has the right to his opinion, and he can post it where ever he… Continue

I really hate to admit when I am wrong, especially about ideas that I have cherished or lines of reasoning that I have ardently defended. Perhaps it just feels like such a waste of mental effort and time to intellectually retrace my steps, yet I find this to be a necessary move as I am hopelessly entangled in convoluted thinking. In particular, my mind has been coddled by a romantic notion of epistemology as I touted an ethereal stance of agnosticism. Now, I face recanting all of… Continue
