Once again, the Lenten season is upon us. For those of you who don't know, Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of Lent, is tomorrow. So of course this means all the good little Catholics are out there deciding what they are going to give up until Easter. Of course this means that I am sitting here and shaking my head at the sheer stupidity of this tradition.
I grew up Catholic, so I am quite familiar with the song and dance that is the Lent tradition. I remember my mom asking me… Continue

No re-write today, just a straight pull from the Americans United for Separation of Church and State site.
More evidence has come to light that the Internal Revenue Service is cracking down on religious ministries that violate federal law by endorsing or opposing candidates for public office. Continue

While Confusion of the Two is Common, Evolution and Social Darwinism Are Two Separate Things
There seems to be some confusion, especially in the conservative Christian community, between the Theory of Evolution and Social Darwinism.
"Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed" which came out in 2008 was a film created to arouse anti-science and anti-evolution sentiments among viewers. To that end the film purposely confused the meaning of… Continue

I don't know how many folks here on Think Atheist are fans of the genre and for those of you that aren't please spare me the bashing. I love Hip-Hop, it gets a bad rap. Judging Hip-Hop by what you've seen or heard on MTV for the past 6 years or so is kin to judging Metal and all it's sub genres based on the Hair Metal that graced the same network in the 80s. Behind the "Glam Rap" that dominates airtime now and the Gangsta trend that came before it are some incredibly intelligent individuals… Continue

Evolution is just a process by which change occurs in nature. The process of evolution was deduced by interpretation of evidence that holds up to empirical scrutiny. Evolution is like many other natural processes which are deduced by interpretation of evidence. A couple of other
processes we have deduced from evidence found in the natural world are erosion and eutrophication.
Evolution has no moral bias, any more than erosion or… Continue

McConnell: Don't raise taxes on the wealthy
By Walter Alarkon
Posted: 02/22/09 02:03 PM [ET]
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) warned President Obama on Sunday not to include tax increases on the wealthy in his upcoming budget plan, saying that doing so wouldn't be a "smart move" during a recession.
McConnell said that tax hikes on the wealthy, which Obama is expected to propose in his first budget, would hit small businesses.…

Not sure if this is the right place for this or but seriously I have been browsing the site for a few months and I finally decided to join and I am in short glad I did! It really is cool to be apart of a site like this. Been watching alot of the video's. I am wondering why it took me so long to sign up. Okay, perhaps I am busy. But I am so very impressed with the site presentation and what it has to offer. Well that is all I have for this early morning.

Plenty of Scientific Facts Contradict Information Found in the Bible so Why Do Fundamentalist Christians Only Despise Origin Theories?
What do fundamentalist Christians and other religious fundamentalists have against the theory of evolution? Why do they seem so upset by the very idea of evolution? Evolutionary theory contradicts the literal story of Genesis as found in the Bible. However, a lot of scientific
knowledge contradicts parts of the… Continue

Austria - this small country with 8m people in the heart of europe - is still one of the catholic main quater in Europe. More than 80 % of its population consider thmeselves as catholic. Over the years there has been a number of debates about the role of religion in schools, justice (there are still cruzifies in court rooms) and public life. Religion is still playing an enourmous role in Austria's daily life. Media an politics still don't discuss the influence of religion in everybody's life.… Continue

Bill Nye, the harmless children's edu-tainer known as "The Science Guy," managed to offend a select group of adults in Waco, Texas at a presentation, when he suggested that the moon does not emit light, but instead reflects the light of the sun. Continue
As even most elementary-school graduates know, the moon reflects the light of the sun but produces no light of its own.
But don't tell that to the good people of Waco, who were…

On my way home from work I passed a real wacko. I'm walking down the street from the bus to my apartment minding my own business and this man yells at me "Jesus saves the day." WTF!!! I know there's many Christians in my neighborhood but most have some sense. They don't go around yelling about it at the top of their lungs. Especially at total strangers. Not a very wise thing to do. It peeved me off when he did so. But I walked on. He does that crap to the wrong person he might get someone not… Continue

Arguing With the Christians
By Bob Wire, 1-15-08
It was halftime of the Green Bay-Seattle playoff game on Saturday, and I had just gotten off the couch to promote myself some nachos in the kitchen. Our dog, Houdini, suddenly started barking like mad, and then the doorbell rang. Wow, I thought, it’s almost like he’s clairvoyant. Or perhaps he can see through that big window right next to the front… Continue

Let me precede this post by saying...logic doesn't seem to work...so perhaps their heartstrings need to be tugged? Lol. Nope...it doesn't work either.
I know your really busy. That must be why you haven’t answered my prayers. I pray to you every night hoping that everything will turn out all right. So I’m writing you a letter, what’s the address to Heaven? I just want you to know that Mommy’s really sick. I try to be strong…but she isn’t getting any better.… Continue

You tell me to have a little faith.
you tell me of a force above, who will keep me "safe".
You tell me to blindly follow.
A God, who is such a hypocrite.
God. He causes all the wars.
He does not keep one safe.
And yet you expect me to believe…
Do you really think your prayers are being answered
when you reach out to him each night?
The evils in this world simply could not exist if said god did.
He wouldn't allow pedophiles to… Continue

Another angry, pompous blog :D
I'm enveloped in a sea of people. I can feel my brain cells dying. Looking at the condition of the human race it can make one feel like crying. So many people following and never once questioning. Tragically complacent. People who feed on delusions, who obtain sustenance from the lies. Needing to be herded like sheep. Quite literally though. Is it ...the Lord is my Sheppard. It is disappointing really, that intellect is such a rare attribute. That… Continue

The pot of the gold at the end of the rainbow. Why is it there that everybody seeks? Its not about the end result, but the journey getting to the metaphorical pot of gold. The pot of gold seems to be religious in nature, to me at least. Some simply want facts to assure them that they will get that pot of gold. Those people never find it...[they find logic]. I think the pot of gold is there to keep the faith. A promise
of something wonderful to come. Faith alone is a controlling factor.… Continue

Refutations of Pascal’s Wager
and the Ontological Argument
When debating a theist about the existence of God, there are two arguments that many of them tend to rely on as last ditch efforts. These are Pascal’s Wager and the Ontological Argument. However, neither is valid because they both have been refuted.
Pascal’s wager, devised by Blaise Pascal, states that it is better to believe in God and be wrong than to not believe in God and be wrong. If one believes in God… Continue
