DO DRUNK DRIVERS WORK FOR GOD?
Religion justifies everything with the umbrella statement, "God works in mysterious ways".
Most memorial services drone on and on about how the dead person is better off, because God has called that person "home".
Really?
I can see it now...like playing with tonka trucks, god collides the drunk into the family sedan
No, I can't see it...now or never
And for that, I am intensely grateful.

Dawkin's Chapter 4 argument for improbability of God
I've read this chapter 4 argument a couple times, and I still don't get it. The following is my understanding:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Straw Man: So, it's pretty much impossible for human beings to just come together by chance. Therefore God exists.
Richard Dawkins. Actually, there's this thing called evolution. I know quite a bit about evolution. Evolution is great. Oh, yeah, the thing…

Islamic "Science"
Pharyngula details the advanced science of Islam. Just simply astounding ...
"If a housefly falls in the drink of anyone of you, he should dip it (in the drink), for the one of its wings has a disease and the other has the cure of the disease."
So saith the Prophet, and so affirmeth these Islamic so-called scientists.
I…

Free will and physics: A reply to "Do We Have Free Will?"
There is one argument regarding free will which seems to come up time and time again, and it deserves a response. There was the week before last Sunday School linked blog making it, and the blog in the title. The basic argument is that since our brains are made of physical…

Reason Rally Road Trip!
I will be attending the Reason Rally with a group of fellow atheists and free thinkers from Mississippi State University. If there is anyone in the north Mississippi/Alabama area that would like to travel with us let me know ASAP. We are considering renting a van and/or carpooling to Tuscaloosa to "get on the bus" with the group there. The more the merrier, especially when it comes to logic and reason!

Long time coming...
I still feel a little naughty about letting anyone else know that I'm in the atheist camp. My parents, sister, brother-in-law, grandmothers, etc. are all evangelical Christians, and I know it would break their hearts to know that I've gone the opposite direction. I'm still protecting my family from knowing too much about me (long story), but I know the truth will eventually come out.
And when they ask me why? When they ask how I could leave the faith they so carefully taught…

Guilty verdict for ‘honor killings’
Much to my excitement a dark and primitive concept was shown to be intolerable in Canada today as all members Shafia family are found guilty of first degree murder. Hamed Shafia, his second wife Tooba Mohammad Yahya, 42, and their eldest son, Hamed, 21 were arrested in July of 2011 for the murder of Hamed Shafia’s three daughters…

Religion as a Part of Practical Thought
Many a good atheist have experienced the futility of presenting logic and reasoning to a devout theist. As I have just completed P. Boyer's Religion Explained -The Evolutionary Origins of Religious Thought my viewpoint of religion and the theistic mind has been changed dramatically. Why?
My new understanding of the theistic mind from a cognitive perspective has forced me to realize that tools such as science and logic and even religious scriptures are not that important to the average…

Jessica Ahlquist update - HuffPost
In case you've been in a freethought cave for the last couple of weeks, you've heard about the brave atheist teen, Jessica Ahlquist, and her (along with the ACLU and others) fight to have a prayer banner taken down from the auditorium of her high school. The Huffington Post has published an updated news story concerning this battle for separation of church…

Christians are up in arms about music video showing church burnings, but they don't understand its meaning
A music video posted on the homepage of the Rock Beyond Belief Festival, that's being held for atheist servicemen and women in March at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, has roused the ire of several Christian blogs and commentators.
Filmed for the song "Hysteria" by rock band Aiden, the video (posted below), begins with several shots of church and synagogue burnings. Indeed, the song itself uses what appears to be lyrics…

Saving my Rest for the Grave
"Life is what you make of it,
there's so many of us
wondering what we could have been.
Looking back on all of this,
I wanna know I made the best of
saving my rest for the grave."
This verse in "Take a Step Back" by Every Avenue reminds me of how important life is. As someone…

Put up by the group Minnesota Atheists, one of the billboards is at 725 Washington Ave. N. in the Warehouse District in Minneapolis. The other near the intersection of University Ave. and Lexington Ave. in…

Do We Have Free Will?
The question of whether or not free will exists is something that I find fascinating. It is commonly believed that humans do have free will, but is such belief justified? As humans, we are hardwired to have the perception that we have free will. Asking whether or not free will exists is really all about our perceptions and experiences and asking whether or not they are accurate representations of reality. Therefore, we cannot use our perceptions or experiences as evidence for or against free…

Two alligators discuss a diet of Christians
Two Alligators were sitting around talking, and the smaller Alligator turned to the bigger one & said, 'I can't understand how you can be so much bigger than me. We're the same age; we were the same size as kids. I just don't get it.'
'Well,' said the big Gator, 'what have you been eating?'
'Christians, same as you,' replied the small Gator.
'Hmm. Well, where do you catch them?'
'Down the other side of the swamp near the parking lot by the…

Republican debate- how would your religious beliefs impact the decisions you make in office?
During the republican debate last night a woman in the audience asked the question, "How would your religious beliefs impact the decisions you make in office?" The whole clip is here:

Ughhh. After Ron Paul it got completely disgusting. How can the US still be like this with religion? It's so mind blowing that this is what people want from their president! I think that if more…
