Stuart Ravn replied to Stuart Ravn's discussion 'Religions Cannot Contravene or Be Exempted from Secular Public Policy'
"The latter part of your contrast doesn't follow from the former. You could say that gods (beside not existing) preempt reasoned human justification yet enforce their laws through human authoritarianism. This goes into the case that it's…"

Stuart Ravn replied to Demitri Felder's discussion 'Tired of new age bullcrap'
"Penn & Teller do an amazing job refuting anti-vaccination propaganda on Bullshit! Check them out. For starters, the origin of that myth is a guy who was paid off to write a bogus medical report discrediting vaccination. I'd tell you more,…"

Stuart Ravn replied to Miranda Cardillo's discussion 'What do you think there is after death?'
"I certainly don't think there is "nonexistence" after death, as though your soul goes in a black box never to be heard from again, although I feel this is a common way to interpret the notion that there is not an afterlife. Frankly, I…"

Virginia Templeton replied to Stuart Ravn's discussion 'Religions Cannot Contravene or Be Exempted from Secular Public Policy'
"I don't see how it is forcing it down their throats. But then again, we are speaking of religious zealots who think that they are not forcing their views by saying women cannot use contraceptives, but if you for one second say anything that…"

"Thanks for the insight. But what do you say to the people who think you're shoving the right for the nurse to have contraception down the hospital's throat? I'm looking for a way to establish who is and who isn't at fault between…"

Heather Spoonheim replied to Stuart Ravn's discussion 'Religions Cannot Contravene or Be Exempted from Secular Public Policy'
"The difference between governments and gods, however, is that governments are obliged to enforce their oughts by force or reason while gods are nothing more than a mass-induced psychosis used to circumnavigate justification."

Heather Spoonheim replied to Stuart Ravn's discussion 'Religions Cannot Contravene or Be Exempted from Secular Public Policy'
"That's a really great way of summing it up and enlightens the wider issue brilliantly.  Thanks; assuming your statements are accurate, it seems your analysis is rock solid.  I'll use this should I encounter another discussion on…"

Heather Spoonheim replied to Stuart Ravn's discussion 'Religions Cannot Contravene or Be Exempted from Secular Public Policy'
"The Establishment Clause says something like "congress shall enact no law respecting an establishment of religion," not "religions shall enact no compliance respecting the enactment of law."  They are free to worship any god…"

Why you left your religion.
Why I left Buddhism is a much more important topic to me, mostly because Buddhism garners a lot of wholly undue respect among the secular community. In short, Buddhism is a death cult (like Abrahamic monotheism) for people who believe in reincarnation: you are called to achieve total spiritual obliteration in order to escape indefinite suffering by means of jettisoning everything conventionally considered valuable about your life and mind, and this, wickedly, is called true happiness.
